I had this plane several years ago and only bought the airframe thats the only version you could get in the uk. I old it and regretted every minute of it. Lucky to find another. I would only ever put brushless and 2200mAh lipos in! i cant imagine running anything other than a small pond boat on a nimh or nicad. I do love having it back and will never get rid of it as you cant get it in the uk any longer unless someone is selling one. see my vids.
Oh yeah, I found that using the propeller from Master Airscrew works well with NiMh or heaver planes. I used the same brand propeller on my Brushless E-Flite Gypsy using 9.6 750 mAh battery from the E-flite Heli's.
Yeah. I am using a NiMh. The only time I use it is on windy days. The weight of the battery helps it cut through the wind. It is actually not that hard to fly it with NiMh battery, it gives it enough power to take it off the ground, then let it build momentum. The great part about having a heavier battery is you will less likely to lose your plane to high winds.
Not really. If you have a heavier motor installed on it, compensate the weight of the motor with a lighter battery. Then adjust the elevons in a way so that the nose does not tip down. You can get it in the air if you gradually pull back on the elevons, and once it is in the air it is the same concept. Use the planes own weight to build momentum and speed to let if fly. Doing so helps save battery power and longer air time.
They are not all brushless unless you get the Plug-N-Play version you can put a brushed motor on it. There is a gearbox that came with my plane to use a brushed 450 motor.
Yeah I am using a 9 cell 10.1 Volts NiMh. with a brushless 480 Outrunner, and a 25 amp esc. I do have LiPo, but since it was windy that day it was better to use a slightly heavier battery so it will not fly off with the wind.
