Can someone who knows what they're talking about PLEASE tell me what the deal is with rotary engines? On paper they sound like a dream engine, but then nobody uses them. What the hell?
@luvmakingfunofu its not mainstream so less people deal with them. They arent exactly going to save the planet with their fuel economy. and besides less moving parts nobody really sees a reason to switch. And theres nothing really wrong with the piston engine
@luvmakingfunofu Advantages; compact size and low weight with very high power output, smooth power delivery, simple design with fewer parts and can be designed as a modular system utilizing the same rotor and casings in a 2, 3 or 4 rotor version.
Disadvantages; poor fuel economy, high emissions and oil consumption, low torque output and low rpm tractability, less reliablity and service life. e.g. apex seals are generally problematic and require complete tear down to service.

@Tjita1 The Action should be similar to a Rotary Vane pump.....water enters one side and exits the other side...the action of the rotor draws water in on one end at the same time pushing it out on the other.
@form109 Yes, that is obvious, the problem is that in between those to, the water will be compressed. And for all intents and purposes water is not compressible, thus the pump will instantly seize.

@1939PlymouthRatRod It was called "Wankel" after its inventor (Like the Diesel engine was named after its inventor) but was marketed in the USA as the "rotary" engine - evidently because of its innovatively different design.
Good we have today several projects to get different Rotary Engines which could reduce the excessive pollution on the air. I recommend you to see wwwyontoinnovaciones.blogspot.com and Inventos Mexicanos de yonto. All mechanisms there were made to reduce fricction, The Yonto Pump which is the base of The Best Rotary Engine does not need any ring or seal to work. It is self-sealed. If you study how their pieces contact each other, you will understand the lower fricction. Regards.
heck of a name to call it the wankel...wank is a British term for jerk'n off. I like this but the japanese water powered car I think would be the way to go. water power has been around since the 70's utube it..
@yappertrap Water is condensed waste exhaust from burning hydrogen fuel with oxygen........so you can't burn water again......unless you split water back to hydrogen and oxygen........which is not water anymore.
i agree the Wankel worked fabulously as a corroborator but once it whent to a direct inject it falls apart if they went to a single point injection it would work again

@fpsraab Please do explain how the Wankel principle could be used as a water pump, considering that water is not compressible?

Too bad the engine worked better in theory. It is unreliable, finicky, and need rebuilt often, especially when using FI
