@caopizhenji they just put out a free 7 day trial and i tried it and im absouletly in love with it, im quiting wow to play rift. its just so..amazing and fresh, but it stil has the familiarity of playstyle that wow had.
@caopizhenji It is very good. I've played every MMO on the market (including the "free" ones) this takes the cake. I have played WoW since Beta but since I started playing this I haven't had the slightest urge to. It brings the familiarity you want but enough to keep it fresh.
@2SpecKo looks like you barely need healers? Even the expert 5 man dungeons you need 2 healers on some fights. Please don't make comments about things you are inexperienced in.

WoW hits a lot less harder at level 50. That's the current level cap in Rift, not 85. How a game scales is soooo irrelevant. That's like saying the damage I do as Mario doesn't compare to Shake from ATHF...
@INTERPK If you played Wow during vanilla, you would know the mobs there during that time actually hit softer than the ones here, including the bosses. I played wow from beta all the way up to a month into Cata release and then came to Rift. This is why the tanks in GSB usually have at least 15-20k health whereas in Wow, MC and BWL geared tanks did not have near this health upon the raids release. To answer your question yes, this is considered the first 4 group raid in Rift progression

I'm not gonna comment on the difficulty, as I don't play Rift and haven't experienced the fight myself.
However, the area in which you fight the boss seems kind of... lackluster. I know Rift has good graphics, I'm just wondering why they'd make the boss area a bland, completely flat area surrounded by a hedge? Though you did say your settings are turned down, there's not a huge difference when you look at other videos recorded with higher settings.
Loving rift. All the wow kids so bored with the lonely servers they troll rift videos just to talk to someone. Anyway really want enemy health bars on all mobs. Kinda hard to see some mobs or taunt them quickly when needed.

I was just wondering as Tankspot has a lovely community and I would enjoy being part of a Rift version of said community. Thanks!

All MMORPG's look the same if you look for it. It is like comparing cars, Audi and BMW come to mind, one might have a more polished features than the other but both have steering wheels, seats, doors, audio systems, engines, lights, wheels. There is only so much you can customize to seperate it from the rest, and most is ususally done in the background.
And for me I have completed all current content so while I wait, instead of being bored, I play Rift, then back to WOW once content arives
@Technohazard1 I love WoW, but this is an awful comment. WoW did not invent these mechanics. Further, Rift introduces several genuinely new mechanics in their encounters. Konstantine and Plutonius jump to mind.
@Ciderhelm And let's not also forget the good business sense of using a successful formula to allow new and old players alike to feel at home, while still distinguishing your product from the rest of the pack with your own innovations. Using ideas WoW has already used isn't bad. It helps frame up a game. You just gotta finish it at that point.
You probably are not aware that the lead developer on Trions Rift was the original founder of Verant :) I think even the Blizz people would admit to having "borrowed" several of Verants flagships mechanics, and the UI might not be one of them, but then Ciderhelm did not say that. He simply commented on someone who broadly swept everything seen on the video under the wow rug.

The only reason I never started to play Rift is because I though the all the boss fights where mindless tank and spank fights, I'm glad to see how that is not the case, thanks for the video, as been a mind opening experience.

That's not how I see it. I currently have an active account on both games and find the majority of Rifts content easier. I wouldn't be surprised if WoW players turned away by Cataclysms relative difficulty would enjoy the more simplistic play style of Rift.
The dungeon and boss mechanics in rift are abysmally stale. Make sure to talent fully into AoE abilities if you're preparing to run any, as nearly all of the trash is just AoEd down. And a disappointingly large percentage of b
any one wanna shed some light on the differences between wow and rift? let me know where each game excels and fails. (FYI i've played WOW from vanilla to wrath, so i'm not new to RPG vocabulary)
@VenusDoom3 Rift's main feature is interrupted questing. In one moment, your quest hub can be overrun by a huge invasion killing your quest NPCs. If you want the hub back, you have to fight them for it. It interrupts questing but people forget that fighting back also gives you a decent chunk of exp. So you get extra exp on top of your quested exp. There are rift raids that can force spawned in the world (think world bosses) Anyone can contribute but your raid gets the loot.
@VenusDoom3 biggest difference is like credence said the interrupted questing, but something i both love and hate, is that the 10 player "raids" are open world fights summoned from rifts similar to those that interrupt your quests, though feature a more complex fight. i'd suggest looking through some wow videos, yoggscast did a decent video of it in beta, there's also a good video up somewhere of an interview and demonstration from a dev of the raid system. trion also listens unlike blizz

After playing all the RIFT betas, the ONE thing that ended up making me quit the game before it went live is the ONE starting zone for every class/race. I enjoyed RIFT soo much I made many alts, which ended up being stupid because before the game even went live I got bored of it. RIFT took what ideas worked from other mmos and added their own style to them. For me though, still waiting for SWTOR!

All MMORPG's look the same if you look for it. It is like comparing cars, Audi and BMW come to mind, one might have a more polished features than the other but both have steering wheels, seats, doors, audio systems, engines, lights, wheels. There is only so much you can customize to seperate it from the rest, and most is ususally done in the background.
And for me I have completed all current content so while I wait, instead of being bored, I play Rift, then back to WOW once content arives

@Technohazard1 I love WoW, but this is an awful comment. WoW did not invent these mechanics. Further, Rift introduces several genuinely new mechanics in their encounters. Konstantine and Plutonius jump to mind.

@Ciderhelm And let's not also forget the good business sense of using a successful formula to allow new and old players alike to feel at home, while still distinguishing your product from the rest of the pack with your own innovations. Using ideas WoW has already used isn't bad. It helps frame up a game. You just gotta finish it at that point.

You probably are not aware that the lead developer on Trions Rift was the original founder of Verant :) I think even the Blizz people would admit to having "borrowed" several of Verants flagships mechanics, and the UI might not be one of them, but then Ciderhelm did not say that. He simply commented on someone who broadly swept everything seen on the video under the wow rug.

The only reason I never started to play Rift is because I though the all the boss fights where mindless tank and spank fights, I'm glad to see how that is not the case, thanks for the video, as been a mind opening experience.
Too bad I'm back in wow, and I can't play both games, no I'm not quint wow for now, my guild there is just to awesome to leave.

Er, there aren't any tank and spank fights in expert dungeons and raids.
Tank and spank fights are in normal dungeons from 1-48 and rifts.
The expert dungeons are quite challenging, actually.

That's not how I see it. I currently have an active account on both games and find the majority of Rifts content easier. I wouldn't be surprised if WoW players turned away by Cataclysms relative difficulty would enjoy the more simplistic play style of Rift.
The dungeon and boss mechanics in rift are abysmally stale. Make sure to talent fully into AoE abilities if you're preparing to run any, as nearly all of the trash is just AoEd down. And a disappointingly large percentage of b

@VenusDoom3 Rift's main feature is interrupted questing. In one moment, your quest hub can be overrun by a huge invasion killing your quest NPCs. If you want the hub back, you have to fight them for it. It interrupts questing but people forget that fighting back also gives you a decent chunk of exp. So you get extra exp on top of your quested exp. There are rift raids that can force spawned in the world (think world bosses) Anyone can contribute but your raid gets the loot.

@VenusDoom3 biggest difference is like credence said the interrupted questing, but something i both love and hate, is that the 10 player "raids" are open world fights summoned from rifts similar to those that interrupt your quests, though feature a more complex fight. i'd suggest looking through some wow videos, yoggscast did a decent video of it in beta, there's also a good video up somewhere of an interview and demonstration from a dev of the raid system. trion also listens unlike blizz

harrow. hardcore wow player since 2004. never seen a single video on rift. but yeah, cider is awesome.
first thing i think of when i look at this is how freaking SIMILAR the whole thing looks to wow. is the guild chat green by default or do you change that?
then i'm watching the entire video and get to the last phase and completely share the sentiment that there should be tab targetting and name plates. how do you copy wow so much and not include that?

After playing all the RIFT betas, the ONE thing that ended up making me quit the game before it went live is the ONE starting zone for every class/race. I enjoyed RIFT soo much I made many alts, which ended up being stupid because before the game even went live I got bored of it. RIFT took what ideas worked from other mmos and added their own style to them. For me though, still waiting for SWTOR!

Wow, has one big failure - it have way to goofy graphic . Graphic in Rift is just OK, not as goofy as wow, and without so many pretty manga style boys and girls like in the Lineage.

When i was playing Rift you only saw that rarely most of the time it was a great community. I love WoW after playing it for 5 years its grown boring and seeing how bad the community now is, makes me sad :(
