it is so good to see this film again after so many years! if its possible, does anybody have the fast film of the woman in her kitchen baking bread?! that would becool to watch again!!
Today, I was in the area of New London and decided to get a photo of this house in its present status. I posted it to Web Shots - go to tinyurl . com / qb4brp to see it.
Listen to 0:51 to 1:02. It's like a little song; saw, saw, hammer, hammer, hammer. If they did that purposefully, GENIUS! [I wouldn't put it past Raposo, he was a creative dude]
I've always loved this. The fast motion, the old timey vaudville music, everything. It always made me sad when the family moved in, though, for whatever reason.
0:07 - 0:12 - I love that there was a dog just hanging around. lol.
A time lapse video will create a lasting visual identity with the power to elicit feelings and perceptions, Yanick Dérys high success rate is due to his unique ability to take his clients vision to a whole new level.
From 0:15-0:20, what was that guy in the red shirt doing? I wasn't sure whether he was taking picures while the people were building the house or, if he was watching everyone closely through a telescope while they were building the house.
it's called a transit. it has a sight glass with a bubble level inside, and graduated lines that equal degrees off of level. a guy stands across the site from him with a post that has corresponding measurements written on it, which are teh same height from ground level as the transit. he looks through the lense at the post and can tell how much of a slope is in the ground.
i always wondered why there was a dog present on the site. thank you goes to bearded19711 for the info. and a question on the house, was that built in Jersey?
I'd like to know how they made those odd sounds in the background music - especially the one at 1:14. Were they synthesized or were they tweaked samples...That stuff had to be cutting-edge back in the 70's!
I have to agree. That music is difficult to listen to. I also would have preferred if fast motion photography had not been used. I always found it creepy. I watched this in order to see if it was as I remembered it. Obviously, my mind plays tricks on me.
Thanks to jonnytbirdzback for posting this. This was made in 1976 and I am the guy in the blue sweatshirt and hat guiding the concrete chute. I only saw this once briefly on Sesame Street so this is a treat. The dog belonged to the builder or a neighbor and was just hanging out as we built the house.
Actually, I was wrong. This was filmed in October or November of 1977 (a long time ago). I was 25 and this was my 2nd. job out of college. This was the last house of about 6 that I worked on, in fact I was not one of the framers, I got a "better" job. after pouring the pad.
Just to answer a few questions since my original posts, most of the time, I wasn't thinking about being filmed. We turned on a camera that took one frame a minute when we started in the morning. When we did things that happened fast, a cameraman came out and clicked individual frames. The house is in a neighborhood called Leedum Run in New London, PA.
Leedum Road is located is just north of the PA Route 896 and PA Route 796 intersection. This is adjacent to where Penn-London elementary school was (later) constructed.

I remember the character of Hiroshi. I believe that he was introduced in the late eighties. Do you have any idea whatever happened to him?

Wow, I remember being totally fascinated by this when I was a kid! I remember that I liked those sawing sounds midway in the video.

You're one of the few construction workers who can put "appeared at work on national TV, 1977" on his resume--bravo!

You must have been nervous knowing you were being filmed. I'm also wondering:a man was peering through what looked like a camera. What was that for?

Patricknows 8 months ago
I really have no idea why the dog was there, unless the family had a hand in the building of the house, which could have explained, but I know not.

Hehe watching this old film from Sesame Street reminded me of Eddie Izzard's preformance in New York and talking about "Speed Archaeoligy!"
