why was evel so popular? i am new to him and just saw a documentary but was left with a few questions. why was he so legendary? was he like the 1st one to jump with motorcycles?

@wtficantgetausername He wasnt the first to do it but he was the biggest and most well known, mainly because of his image, the way he dressed, his name and the types of jumps he did. Video of his jumps went around the US and the world and every kid in the world knew about Evel Knievel.

I saw Evel in march of 1973 with my uncle and my Dad at the portland memorial coluseum, I was 8 years old and it was the coolest thing I had ever seen....I was an instant 8 yr old daredevil on my bicycle and began jumping our metal garbage cans in our drivway, then onto jumpin my dirt bike over one of my parents cars.......Evel, Rest in peace brother, I'll never forget you...you are King.

I grew up in Butte, Montana in the 70's he was my hero, I remember going past his house every Christmas to see the santa on the motorcycle!
