Growing up in the 70's, Evel was our hero. Nice tribute. Please check out a video I put together of my band Bottom. Type: Bottom Muscle Bike. Seems all we did back then was set up ramps and try to jump over whatever we could get our hands on 24/7!!!
why was evel so popular? i am new to him and just saw a documentary but was left with a few questions. why was he so legendary? was he like the 1st one to jump with motorcycles?
@wtficantgetausername He wasnt the first to do it but he was the biggest and most well known, mainly because of his image, the way he dressed, his name and the types of jumps he did. Video of his jumps went around the US and the world and every kid in the world knew about Evel Knievel.
This guy was a true legend of the time. imagine what he would have taken on with todays bikes, and not that stupid great big Harley, respect to the king, I wanted to be Evil K, but it would have been on a triumph, lol
Two Kings! I think it's sick if you want to watch a man fall. You watch the highway pavement for blood. I understand it, but this is about achievement. It's like the morons that wait to watch race car drivers crash....I watch them to win! Some smirk - Elvis crashed and burned....that was his personal life. He gave us more than many ever could. Evel did the same. Sure he was a rascal...who cares? I didn't want him to crash! He was a true dare-devil and a American hero, in my belief.
A true balls of steel moment.... he was on Jim Romes radio show one time..and they were talking bout the Snake River jump n what not...and Romy asked him ..if u knew u had a 50-50 shot of making the jump..basically a coin flips chance...WHY do it? and the most epic response from Evel "Dont u know who the HELL i am" I bout drove off the road after he said that....was awesome
MAN...back in the day..1970s ..this dude wood b on Wide World of Sports and my ASS parked front n center of the TV WATCHIN HIM DO HIS THING... was just in AWE..of one Robert Craig Knievel.... Was the epitome of great Americana red white n blue no.1 must have had 50 of those stickers back in the day.. a true chidhood hero..
One of my childhood heroes. He was & will always be the G.O.A.T.! He was a real man, not like these pretty boys in sports today afraid to get a scratch on their arm.
I saw Evel in march of 1973 with my uncle and my Dad at the portland memorial coluseum, I was 8 years old and it was the coolest thing I had ever seen....I was an instant 8 yr old daredevil on my bicycle and began jumping our metal garbage cans in our drivway, then onto jumpin my dirt bike over one of my parents cars.......Evel, Rest in peace brother, I'll never forget you...you are King.
Dear Jet, I saw Evel at the Utah State Fair 9/68, I was seven years old. I remember two things about being seven, pissing myself and EVEL! I am looking for some film (video) of that jump. Can you help me?
@fresky74 everyone has things they regret doing...except you...but you never became a hero....a hero because he showed guts and he had the conviction to prove he could beat the odds time and tome again...
@garymacguyver define hero for me then? Someone who beats his wife? Someone who failed at what he was trying to do more than he succeeded? Someone so arrogant he died alone? Just because he tried something over and over again it doesn't make him a hero! If someone failed to kill themselves over and over again is that a hero to you? I'd define a hero as someone who is selfless and he was far from that!
EVEL KINEVEL IS AND WILL FOREVER BE THE GODFATHER OF FREESTYLE. WITHOUT HIM OUR SPORT AND LIFESTILE WOULD NOT EXIST. A PIONEER WHO IS GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. love and respect sir, A. Bagby.
There where two Great show man Elvis and Evel they give there all to everyone that watch them thank God i was there to see both of them in the Greats city. Elvis and Evel are given one hell of a show to the man upstairs
Evel rode a modified XR750 Harley-Davidson Flat track Racer...Not only was He "The Greatest Daredevil" ...He also was a Showman and primarily promoted Himself...."None like Him...Never will be!...
At 2:30 Green Valley Raceway North Richland Hills TX. I was there!!! 13 Mack trucks originally scheduled but due to weather he trimmed it down to 11....
Thanks for making this film it's a great tribute. Amazing to think that he did all those jumps without the protective clothing that todays sportspeople wear, plus the bike he used must have been way heavier than a Japanese motocross bike!
Beautiful tribute to E K. I'm huge Elvis Fan also so you picked the best two people like I tell people Elvis is up there along with other great singin' talent.
Evel, Howard Cosell, Chuck Barris, Flip Wilson, Carol Burnett, Gerald Ford, Ali/Foreman/Frazier/Norton/Ellis, Orville Reddenbacher, R2D2, James Garner, K-Tel, AMC, Nolan Ryan and Raymond J. Johnson Jr. sum up the seventies for me.
what a wonderful tribute! I also went to his funeral yesterday! And Was happy to celebrate his life and all he did! I grew up in Butte, Montana in the 70's he was my hero, I remember going past his house every Christmas to see the santa on the motorcycle! He was a big part of my childhood and am glad he is riding the in the heavens above and not in pain anymore!
Lost: one of the world's greatest. He defines words like: courage, honor, determination and of course showman. Everyone you ever knew knows who EK was, most wanted to be him.
