  • What? Nick Clegg is saying something right !?!

  • the id card scheme in france was instituted by the nazis in WW2!

prior to that only criminals and foreigners had id.

  • this is a soundbyte to make us all feel better...the government have all this info in fact people trade in information...its big business

don't be conned, big brother is watching :P

  • Fuckin lies Bullshit on and on we go in a out of debt non of it caused by british working people. Britian has one of the best work forces /creatives/ inventors ect ... in the world, we are a tiny island you cant tell me anymore that the public have to pay

Its banks and your fuckin mess SO CLEAN IT UP AND LEaVE THE BRIT HARD WORKING THE FUCK ALONE.

Parliments days are numbered if itv was a management team in any Buisnes they would have all been fired by now.

  • In Italy it's quite a common thing, and it's also necessary. If you go to a bar and you want to drink, the bartender might want to know whether you're of age. If the police stop you and they want to know who you are, how can you prove it without an identity card? The government doesn't actually collect any information about you, the ID card only shows name, surname, height and address.

  • All parties support the fake war on terror which is the excuse for the expanding police state. Don't buy into this illusion of choice.

  • Hot babe alert: 1:19

  • As a foreign national I still have to have an ID card and it won't be scraped ever. I had to return it twice already as they issued it with spelling mistakes each time... so I am waiting for the 3rd one now! They even have a special line to deal with misspellings. They just can't read the application properly where every letter of a word is a capital one in a separate box for cow's sake! And I had to wait for like 3 months! But you can have in within 24 hours if you pay £15000...

  • Sounds like Mr Clegg has something to hide.

Probably his Framed photos of Thatcher and Cameron .

  • Nick Clegg: an American with a British accent.

  • @jaguarclaw Obama and his party are just weak. The Democrats propose the banks have an insurance policy that they pay into to prevent another goverment bailout. The Republicans shoot it down and the democrats dont stand their ground. I don't believe anyone else could do better considering one party is bought and the other is weak.

  • their watching us

  • Think its time Lib dems had a shot, and according to the digital debate, i think the majority agree too.

  • Fucking Yeeee, NO to ID cards, ill benefit from it ;p.

  • Anything can be hacked or reproduced. It's a matter of your objective, your skills. And the tools that you use to do it.

  • Are foreigners in the U.K. required to show their ID card at all times?

  • @whereismybailouttv no, just when you apply for a job or travel abroad etc

  • @jaguarclaw how clegg would funnel all wealth to the best banks? from what his whole campaign stands for, i can't see how this is fact.

  • @jaguarclaw Back that up.

  • Good for Clegg for doing actual video clips that aren't party propaganda. You NEVER see Stateside politicians doing these.

  • check out the following YT videos labour paedophile and sex offenders gordon browns ramadam message blair government police investigation for war crimes david miliband on geert wilders fitna islam and the nazis theres nothing british about the uaf uaf scum EDL mancs UAF disrespect 2 minutes what the uaf seek to protect mandella singing about killing whites CNN report on the islamic threat to britain terrorist walter wolfgang BNP and christian after the show email and phone in kris donald
  • haha actors.

  • New Labours 'achievements'

    * An illegal war in Iraq + a 9 year war in Afghanistan.

    * Tuition fees which locked the poor out of university.

    * A record divide between the rich & poor.

    * 2.5 million unemployed.

    * Less renewable, home produced energy than nearly every other developed nation.

    * Record patchwork privatisation in the NHS.

    * Proposals for spending tens of billions on Trident, ID cards & more war.

If every Labour voter voted Lib Dem, Clegg would have a massive majority.

    LIB DEM 2010

  • The top 2 parties are way too comfortable, they're barely trying anymore.

LET'S SHAKE THIS SYSTEM UP A BIT!

Let's make them work for their money.

If you have any guts, use them to vote Lib Dem with me.

    LIB DEMS 2010

  • Clegg is the British Obama.

    Cable is the British Biden.

  • My ID card was sent with the visa expired two days before it was issued. The Home Office made me illegal after paying 500 Pounds. They still don't know what should I do. Everytime they say different thing when I call the Home Office.

  • I was this wekk sent an ID card by the Home Office with visa expired two days before the visa was issued. i called them but their customer service told me that they don't know what to do with it. Then I was told to send it to Bristol an address they gave me. It was a call from unknown number. I send my ID card with passport to them but more than a week still i don't know what is going on with my case and my detaikls are in whoes hands??????

  • Does every one know that in Spain all the Madrid boomers Had ID cards Does all the British also know that it is compulsory to carry the ID cards at all time for Spanish citizens and can be stoped by the Police with out a reason and asked for it at any time and if you have have forgotten to take it you cold be fined by the police 1000 euro

  • Damn straight. Not in my name!

  • I suppose if you are a career criminal, paedophile, illegal immigrant or someone who wishes to be anonymous then you'd have a reason not to want one. In Spain everyone has to carry one. Not a problem here, in fact it's very convenient, especially when you pay with you debit or credit card. Here in Spain if you don't have one, you must carry your passport with you everywhere. So, yes please, I would like an ID card!

  • Mr Clegg has proved that at a time witho no massive wars like WW1 & 2, ID cards are a bad IDea

  • This is a cause we should all rally behind. ID cards are intrusive and it violates individual liberties. Google 'Illuminati' & Jesuit related organizations.

There really is no need for bashing the nationality of somebody merely because you disagree with their views.

The Geneva Convention specifically mentions this in their doctrine. Due process is something you may want to research yourself.

You are an unofficial ambassador for your country. Act like you have some sense.

    Peace

  • if you dont have an ID card you may not know it but you are actually more powerful than the government. and they HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is the main reason you should NEVER EVER get an ID card FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER: when you are born you get a birth certificate which means that your LEGAL FICTION NAME (the one your parents give you) becomes the property of the government. what an ID card does is DECEIVE you into declaring your LEGAL FICTION NAME is the same as you THE LIVING BREATHING HUMAN BEING. so if they own your LEGAL FICTION NAME and you (probably unknowingly) then agree that you as a LIVING BREATHING HUMAN BEING

  • are the same as your LEGAL FICTION NAME then they also own YOU AS A LIVING BREATHING HUMAN BEING!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU WILL BE DECEIVED INTO ALLOWING THE UK GOVERNMENT TO OWN YOU!!!!!!!

YOU WILL BE THEIR PROPERTY FOREVER AND THEY WILL WIELD ULTIMATE POWER OVER YOU FOREVER!!!!!!

  • ID Cards are a crap idea by a crap Government

  • Would gays have to carry ID cards?

  • National health care serves the same purpose. The Gov't doesn't need additional fascist tools when it has already socialised medicine. God Almighty I'm so tired of extreme leftists and their schemes to control absolutely everything in our lives. It's killing Europe, Canada and the U.S.

  • Just coz your left wing it doesn't mean you wan't ID cards, I'm left centre and I oppose anything that infringes upon my human or civil rights. I vote Liberal Democrat because its the closest thing Britain has to left wing party, its sad that labour are like right next to the Conservatives on the political spectrum.

  • haha! you're calling the British NHS a 'fascist tool'? What is so fascist about socialised healthcare? The fact that when I am ill or in danger, the country unites to help that person? screw you righty ass hole (:

  • When you grow up, get a job to support a family, you won't like it when half your paycheck, that you worked your ass off for to support your children for a better life for them, is taken by the gov't to 'Unite' to 'Help' people who don't work, pay taxes, or act responsibly. If you personally feel like 'uniting' to help people it should be your own decision, not because the gov't forces you. And if you think the gov't only wants to help people, then you're very naive. And that's how they like it.

  • Well if you dont like living in this country, where the health benefits and socialised practices make life better for everyyone. you can take your selfish arse and fuck off out of our country.

  • oh wait. you're a fucking american. You guys are behind EVERY country apart from the third world xD ahahaha. nevermind. you just helped put everything into perspective (: I don't need to argue with a stupid cunt like you.

  • As I said, When you grow up....

You don't need to argue. Just live by the values you espouse - start in your own neighborhood. Split your paycheck up evenly between yourself and all your neighbors who are less fortunate - and support them for life. Then when you raise kids, support them their entire adult lives too. Charity begins at home! Oh wait - you just want to spend OTHER PEOPLE"S MONEY. Selfish - tsk tsk. No need to be charitable - the gov't will do it for you.

  • haha. your own warped bullshit oppinions are your own. but the least you do is educate yourself you dumb fuck. quote: 'fascist tool'. Socialism and fascism are NOT the same thing you ignorant cunt. So do us all a favour, and stay the fuck away from the UK.

  • Socialism & Fascism are two branches of the same rotten tree sweetums. All you have to do is read, or even look it up. Sheezus. Lazy. Ever study Totalitarianism? That's the trunk of the tree darling cupcake. How old are you, twelve? Do yourself a favor and rent a movie called, "The Lives of Others" - it's all about nasty government control and how it starts soft and becomes tyranny. At least get a better argument than 'yer a cunt, duuhh'. And I have been to the UK. Back when they were free.

  • One more thing for your edification:

    National SOCIALISTischeDeutsche Arbeiterpartei

    = NAZI Party.

  • atleast the libdems dont censor comments, well atleast at the momment, kudos for that.

  • @ProudToBLoud I can't say I'd blame them for censoring them. 90% of the comments on political videos seem to be BNP-bigots declaring their hate for anything or anyone "that isnt one of us" or Christian extremists baiting for religious war.

  • @GrandHighGamer

christian extremists are a minority, in the uk you will find most christians are docile, in fact christians are one of the groups you can attack in the uk.

All you are doing is making an excuse for censorship.

    so much for liberalism.

  • And let us say for arguments sake that id cards were not an eu directive even though the cards are stamped all over with eu symbols, the provisions in the lisbon treaty give those powers to create the eu id cards,so either way nick clegg is not playing it straight.

  • ID cards aren't a European directive, and even if they were we wouldn't support them.

  • The id cards with the eu identification and eu flags are not an eu directive, thats funny, and how could we trust what you will or wont support when clegg already reneged on a referendum on the eu consitution?

  • Lib Dems want a reform on the EU to make it more accountable and democratic. We see it for what it could be which is a tool for good.

  • what would be democratic is if they stop making laws there and we make our own laws , we can trade with them but joining the common market was just a ruse to hand over powers to the unaccountable bueracrats to run our laws, that traitor heath even admitted as much.

  • Well it is democratic, we elect the MEP's which vote on the laws, the whole 75% of our laws thing is deceptive, the laws they make revolve around trade and standards in order to streamline free-trade, when it comes to dealing with crime each member makes its own laws.

P.S. UKIP live in a fantasy world, if they think we can leave the EU and STILL have the same level of trade with them their thinking is screwed.

  • Now lets say we did leave them and they in some imaginary world allowed us to keep up the trade and the jobs (3 million) which are protected by the EU, we would still have to make products according to their laws in order to trade with them, so the only difference would be is that we dont get a say in the laws.

  • Good, because if you didn't oppose them you'd have to change your name to "Democrats" because you wouldn't really be Liberal anymore.

as Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who sacrafice a little liberty, to gain a little securtiy, recieve neither, and lose both"

  • @LibDem woppppeeeeee NO TO THE CARDS!

  • @ProudToBLoud you don't know anything about evolution

  • Come and get your new nazi checkpoint ID cards

    ...only £66.60

  • come on every one, talk to your friends, family members, and explain why they should vote lib dems. this has to be a p2p effort.

  • Ok Mr Clegg. ID Cards are just another Hidden tax. 9/11 Bombers were Govt Agents too many films and too many documents prove this im afraid. the 7/7 bombers were also agents. to stop terrorism we must stop Government sectors waging war on the population to make us submissive and scared. I see that your Father was a banker...hopefully not a bankster. do not sell out and the ppl will vote for you. You seem honest. but we all know behind closed doors you could be someone else. Dont sell out.

  • Shelsadie I was shocked to see on the form for an ID card that they also want to be paid! I agree with Nick Clegg I will refuse to have one tho the GOVt are also bringing in resrictionsie you cannot do online shopping, banking.etc etc without an ID card and we have to pay for the 'privelege'. very fascist!

  • Show us your papers Slaves !

  • The ID cards scheme will require us all to report to the police and give all our details, or, as Jacki Smith said, "you'll be able to get your finger prints taken and face scanned while you're popping out shopping". It will require us all to show them on demand.

In other words, ID cards will mean that we're all on probation; we are all suspects. Can anybody remember what 20th Century regimes required everybody to turn up to submit their details, so that they knew where they were?

  • Take a look at this on my channel COMPULSORY ID CARDS FOR UK - BAD IDEA

  • i will never carry an id card or apply for one. if you want a passport get one before 2010 or it will be mandatory to get an id card as well. we are living in a fascist state.

  • There will be information on those cards which does not need to be there. Eventually all your life will be on them. I know someone who works 4 NHS & they got leaflets about them months ago. I got given 1. If u want to buy a morgage then the morgage ppl can see off your ID card what u earn, etc... what the hell has that got to do wiv national security.

Big brother state more like. And why are big companies from London moving to Manchester? What exactly is going on?

We are not being told all !!!

  • Gordon brown is a traitor! He can take the ID card scheme and stuff it up his arse!

  • I agree he can stuff it right up there the cheeky BASTARD ID cards 7.5 billion for cards....It really boils my piss.

  • The only problem is the amount of money Labour will have wasted on this before they get kicked out. As others have said an ID Card WILL NOT save a single person from a terrorist act, Police and Secret Service investigation will. See the News this week for the evidence. Support your local Lib Dem team, even if you can only deliver a few leaflets I'm sure they would be extremely grateful. Time is the best free thing you can give.

  • This is just the first step before they put it in your hand. then you won't be able to buy food or water without it..

Come on Everybody it really is time to wake up and lets all get together and stop this..! We have tremendous power if we are all together..!

  • The funny thing is they say the information on these cards cannot be stolen well thats not true Dundee University has hacked it already.

  • we need firearms arm yourselves people

  • Any society that chooses to give up a little liberty in exchange for more security will deserve neither and lose both.

  • Nobodys choosing it. Its a terrible idea and the opinion polls show it. Labour will lose the general election because of it

  • Gordon Brown is a turn coat, i hoped for more froma Scott, but he's just another wanna be English muffin muncher, + he and any Government that choose this can shove so far up their arse's they'll need to stick their tounge's out to have it scannned.

Also saying the predictable "if you've got nothing to hide" is such a weak argument,

sheesh...It's time to be responsible folks...

  • I do have something to hide. My pin number, Thats between me and my bank. It is a stupid idea. At least Labour look to lose the next election.

  • the news supports either labour or the tories, even after the snp won the papers in scotland still slammed them and ignored the victory for the people who voted for them, you guys should vote lib dems there the only party down south that opposed the iraq war

  • There is basically no difference between Conservative and Labour, it's just a change of faces. If you are unhappy with the status quo, as many people are, then vote for a third party. It's the only way things are going to change.

  • I won't accept a I.D card and I'll smack any cop who tries to arrest me for not having one on me.

  • Same! Bellend ID cards, gordon brown can shove it up his deflated arse

  • No such thing as total security. Even if you can make an unbeatable encryption, there's always some numpty with a datapen/laptop/mind they all too easily loose.

All the Clegg haters can go vote BNP if they like. Any other options?

  • hi no i agree with nick clegg. id cards is not good just cut down on people coming into the country, and help manage other countrys to help then stay in there country instead off other countrys stealing from there resorces. help other country be like britain.

  • Support!

  • Does the phrase, Incremental totalitarianism implemented through institutionalised compartmentalisation come to mind?

  • Good, you're right, hurrah for the Lib Dems (at least on this issue.)

  • pardon my french, but VOTE LIB DEM, FOR FUCKS SAKE !! PLEASE!!!!

  • word, nick clegg

  • I am now voting liberal democrat. I suggest that everyone with a shred of humanity dose the same. The Labour/Nazi party has gone too far. We have seen their jackboot tactics enforced on a politician who tried to inform the public of their negligence. ID cards mean loss of freedom and humanity. Just say no before its too late.

  • the government shoud have to justify their reasons for wanting our details, not the other way round

  • They're rolling them out already.

If people power can help abolish the poll tax I'm sure it can do the same for ID cards.

  • Im thinking about getting a new passport before they bring in the biometric interviews. My current one expires in 2012. I know they have those chips on the new passports, what are these chips for exactly and would I have to submit any more information. I dont want to break my No2ID pledge.

  • RFID chips, they basically transmit data on the card (pretty much what is on your passport at the moment) to a reader, so it logs your movement in and out of the country. It doesn't hold Biometric data, or anything of that nature. its really just to speed up border checks, I'm on the pledge too, and have one.

  • Since when was it ever about security? This is about what government loves best: control!

    Crisis, reaction, solution.

Terrorist bombing, media fear mongering, ID cards.

This is just the begining, we're living in a brave new world...

  • £93 quid for the pleasure of having THEM holding my details.

I'm a Liberal and I'm against this sort of thing. Tony Wilcock(look him up he took it all the way to the high court and got rid of them, hes a hero)

The GOV cant be trusted full stop, Anarchy is the only sane way to run the world

  • yeah but if you give it time, a society based upon anarchy will slowly get a leader, just simply rising through the ranks.

  • i will never ever submit my details

  • ps . . peace and health to you !

  • i (ingredient 3) will go to prison before i carry an ID . . . .ZVERE ARE YOUR PAPERS !!! prevent terrorism eh? .. hmmm aren't a % of the lads and lasses who carry out these 'Holy Missions' British and therefore will be given a card ? .. say NO . i for one will DEFY , just to be FREE of yet another oppressive regime , which believe me , will carry new offences ! .

  • not to mention that the RFID that the government intend on putting on these cards and passports are in no way shape or form secure. i want to know how it is supposed to stop terror... unless they propose to put a "tick here if you're a terrorist" option on the ID card forms. the home secretary and gordon brown are always giving us the benefits, but never explain how they will be used to these ends.

i'm pretty sure i'm not supposed to be scared of my government, my voting will reflect that

  • RFID can be secure if a good level on encryption is used, but, whats the betting this government won't. They still haven't heard of truecrypt or PGP.

  • snp get my vote, but the lib dems are looking more promising lately. if they keep improving the way they are they might actually get a vote out of me yet!

  • You lot make me laugh.

Take CCTV for instance. Picture a school. A small kiddy comes out and a ford focus stops and a middle aged male grabs a small girl and makes off. Hits the Motorway and gone! Small girl raped and murdered and buried in a grave inside the new forest, never to be found!!!

Or.. CCTV hit the vehicle and its tracked to the M1. ANPR pinged it and girl saved and the fuckin paedo caged!!

Nuff said you brain dead twats!

  • You may have a good point to make, however because of your complete lack of thought as to how best to convey it, most people on here probably think you are a "brain dead twat" yourself.

  • How do we organize against this? Set up a website?

  • You can find our anti-ID cards website in the video description, and also Google for no2id.

  • We must have a whole new government that is for the people, no spin-bull cr-p, CCTV that dont work, ID Cards that won't work but still large money is being spent on that system, I feel privacy and freedon is important, even this is taken away from us! UK Government are professional crimminals and shit on us all, take a good look at the shit this government have caused, unlawful kills, ID Cards, War no-one wanted, jobs being lost, using our money for homes, Stealth taxs, Government are theives.

  • Crimminal PM Gordon Brown is nothing nut a professional crimminal, why is he not banged up?

  • I think this is only for money.Nothing to do with security.

  • It`s nothing to do with counter-terrorism, or security or any of that codswallop. It`s the about the same thing it always is, looting the public purse. Juicy contracts for US security firms, and civil servants creaming off from the top.

The plan will not go through though, the tories will scrap it after the next election.

  • "He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark...... (Rev. 13:16-18).

  • why dont the english vote for lib dems if there against ID cards and other things like the iraq war? thats one of the reasons the SNP is in power in scotland

  • i agree we should vote lib dems. there morales are in the rite place

  • the lib dems will not come to power for a long time, so all the crazy things theyre proposing are unrealistic and will be expensive for us, but i agree that they are working for the people

  • Welcome to fascism!

  • Pointless liberals!

  • Let's see, ex PM Blaire was in power he made law that complaints against any department make will be dealt with within that department! Now the UK has no means of having a fair or impartial inquiry! The UK Government is guilty of a disgusting invasion of our privacy. All data collected will be used for all the wrong reasons. 1000's of tazers on order! Ladies and Gentleman welcome to the new world order. Shame on UK Government. We have no freedom of speech no-more! UK Government are Criminals?

  • This is why there is crime, we are being robbed of OUR money to the IRS, thats totally unconstitutional, there is NO LAW saying you HAVE to pay the IRS, the ID cards and scanners wont do $^#% against anything, all it will do is track us like rats in a maze, this is Oligarchy

  • I think the philosophy behind the ID Cards is most note-worthy. If we're all good boys and girls, if we have nothing to hide, and are truly innocent, then we do not need to worry. We could even benefit from those who are less innocent being caught more easily. HOWEVER, Nick's argument above, regarding the 911 bombers etc, CANNOT be overlooked. Many of these kind of laws only effect law-abiding people, and what is the point of that? You, me, and our pal Nick, will be paying £7B for NOTHING!!!

  • Great argument here.

  • great video.

    SAY NO 2 ID!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for linking me to this video lib dems, I think the ID card proposal is a disgusting invasion of the country's privacy and will be used for all the wrong reasons. I continue to spread the word.

  • i agree... id cards are just another way of the government to gain money and keep tabs on us. but listen again to what they would mean? sound familiar to me from my history studies; what could remove our freedom more; sounds like some leaders are trying to be like stalin to me

  • A good video. I say no to ID cards, I just can't see them working.

  • Clegg is such a reasonable tosser : a Boy.

  • Whilst the Lib Dem's are wishy-washy over this and other losses of liberty they will never be the answer. Check out my video.....

  • I have not even watched the video but this is the beginning of the end of all human rights, no more cash, you will be a slave to the system, with a push of a button you will not exist. They are tightening the noose around your sheep like throats..

  • Nick Clegg Thank you for this video

I am so scared How can we survive How can we stop it?

    Oh my god Help us!!!!!!!!!!!!

we won't be able to get a job or keep our job right?

but I am with you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thank you

  • Please say NO! to ID cards

  • Here in the US most stores require a "savings card" or a "members card" in order to get the lower price. This is simmular to a compulsory Identity system. But some people only see the discount aspect and nothing more. It's really sad.

  • He makes a very good argument against.

  • No To ID Cards

  • I have to think that the idea of these ID cards sounds rather sinister in the manner that is being desribed by the Labour Government.

I truly believe that the Liberal Democrats are truly fighting for the freedom of the British people, more so than Labour or the Tories.

  • Nick Clegg is just the same. All that he has said about ID cards is now meaningless, seeing as he broke his promise on having a referendum on the EU treaty. A euorpe wide ID card is being planned and we wont be able to stop it. That is Nick Clegg and the LidDems fault as much as anyone elses

  • Think I'm suspicious?Question me.Think I'm guilty?Arrest me.But I know who I am,I don't need to damn well prove it to anybody else!

You see, eventually, every spotty little Herbert behind a desk will be demanding to "see my papers",not just the Police.

  • The governement is scarily intuding in everything we do. I don't think ID cards will solve the problem of terrorism.

  • hmff i'm a lib dem supporter. But ID cards to me are an incredible idea. it does seriously need to be changed and rethought but the base concept, would solve many many problems especially with youths buying things they shouldn't. something i'm familiar with as i work in an off license. i admit labours version of the proposed sceme won't work.

  • Great news:

You won't need to carry your ID card at all times - a friendly bobby need only demand you place your hand on his portable fingerprint scanner to determine that you are who you say are.

  • If only it weren't for the Lib Dem's policies on EVERY OTHER ISSUE, I would vote for them. They seem to be the only party that's even half-serious about civil liberties issues. I just can't stand them otherwise.

  • I come from a country where ID's are used. The British people should fight like rabid dogs against them!! They will not bring any safety, and they will give authority to any government affiliate (such as the police) to stop you anytime they feel like to check your ID. They might even take you to the police station in case you have forgotten it, just because they dont like your face. Trust me, you will lose a big part of your freedom.

  • Here here!! I'm with you panostsak. But are the British people willing to stand up and go to prison is need-be in order to say "no" to this tyrranous idea? I wil NEVER submit to it, myself. They can send me to jail, pin me down and cause GBH if needed in order to get my DNA or details cos I will not submit.

  • I want to believe that the British will fight against it..having cameras everywhere is over the top already.

  • SAFE SOLUTION TO PROBLEMS? What problems? How does ID cards solve these problems (not that they are any problems). Whatever you can muster there is a counter argument that beats the futile argument for ID cards. These ID create problems not solve them. Spend the money on tackling the real issues. Oh yes the money - I do not believe even the most liberal of gov estimates for the cost of this stupid scheme will be close to the final total cost. FIGHT IRRATIONAL (SPY) ID CARDS AT ALL COSTS.

  • I think you should be prime minister, not gordon.

I agreee with everything the labour democrats stand for, and when i am able to will vote for you. (just underage)

  • If you have nothing to hide, BURN YOUR CURTAINS...its cheaper than ID Cards.

  • Those are the words of a communist.

  • LOL. wearethemods1994. Are you Gordon Brown in Disguise. Get real mate, no personal information - if these get through it is a matter of time untill you will have to carry it everywhere with you becuase it will be all your bank and credit cards in one. Research RFID chips and WAKE THE F*** UP. If you were a real mod you should be fighting facism not signing up to it. When your paying for your groceries and getting books from libary with your thumbprint it might dawn on. RESEARCH RFID chips.

  • a) I am supporting Socialism, not fascism.

    b) Why not pay for goods with your thumbprint? That way, no one will be able to steal your identity, and pay for THEIR goods with your money.

    c) I would love to be able to carry my drivers licence, debit card, etc in one. It would make life a lot simpler and easier.

  • Am I to guess from your username that you were born in 1994? If so, it might explain the socialism part :P

  • yeah, it would make life a lot simpler and easier. also, it makes it simpler and easier to commit identity theft - hurray!

If you have paid attention to the news recently, you might have noticed that there's been quite a lot of information lost by the government. is that a good sign to keep centralising information? is it really worth it just so you can carry a slightly smaller wallet?

  • I don't see the need for ID cards at all. I think it will be just another massive piece of beurocracy that will drain more public funds and add to the culture of legislating to solve problems.

  • H'mm. I'm already aware that emails and mobile phones are monitored for 'key' words. I don't object as I am not a terrorist. I do object to any other personal information being tagged, just because they can. Britain has become the most monitored state with the least proved record. So, is it really necessary. Yes and No. Yes, if it works, but No, if it doesn't. So far, it does not seem to work. The police are disinterested in crimes that have been reported - I was a victim. They ignored me.

  • On this issue the libdems have always been correct.

  • Don't worry everyone, Labour will loose in 2009.

  • Although I can't wait to get rid of these war criminals, the tories will be just as bad. Let's just hope there is a hung parliament, then we can set a condition of our partnership in a coalition as the introduction of proportional representation. With our votes at the last election, we should have 143 seats and labour should have just 228. Shame on them for stealing our votes!

  • Nothing we didn't already know about the ID card scam. It's nothing more than an excuse to keep a heap more public paracites in the job with a fancy pension and cost us all a packet. ID cards will not stop crime or terrorism, they will help criminals since the government seem intent on flogging our data to the highest criminal bidders, I don't believe that they are realy so incompetent as to just loose it! Sorry I forgot that Ruth Kelly was still in the cabinet, so any foul up is possible!

  • So right

  • Seems the government wants to know my mobile phone numbers and credit card numbers before I get on a train or a boat. We already have passport checks for domestic flights and ferries (under the Terrorism Act). We have more surveillance than East Germany...

  • We need to make ID cards this government's 'Poll Tax' downfall. I refused to pay the poll tax until they forced me, and I will do the same with ID cards. However, I am in favour of the right sort of local taxation and also the right sort of ID card - one that I control and is for MY benefit, but not if every uniform and their dog can stop me and ask to see it.

  • ID cards are one of the most dangerous and insidious ideas of this government, which I used to support! Have they not read anything? 1984 for instance? Have they not thought of the wider implications - even if they could keep the material safe, which they can't and will never be able to do - this is a draconian invasion into peoples' lives and privacy. It will not stop terrorism. It will not stop theft and crime. All it will do is further damage our democracy and freedoms.

  • The goverment are using ID cards as way of trying 2 look as if thier being tough on terrorism; when infact the whole idea is ill thought out because: it will have no effect on preventing terrorism, will make identity theft easier, and makes huge infringments into our privicy.

  • ABSOLUTELY. As a law-abiding citizen of this country i find it a disgrace that my DNA is on the national DNA database due to a case of mistaken identity. My genetic privacy is for all the world to see, I will most certainly be voting against this stalinist police state.

  • I wholeheartedly agree on this. It will be a truly sad day indeed when the UK bows to the fearmongering and outright lies of our current leaders. The Lib Dems have my full and unswerving support.

  • Excellent. The Brown police state must be stopped

  • Note that the reasons for the introduction of ID cards has changed several times (terrorism, immigration, benefit fraud etc.), as if the govt is simply looking for an excuse to implement them. Why? Either there are profits to be made by industry friends of certain politicians or Labour have become so arrogant and detatched from the real world that they want to push through cards on an ideological basis regardless of the fact they can *never* work as proposed.

  • One more step on the road to a police state...
