However, if you're in a public place and an individual tells you not to film them or does not give you consent to release the video of them (the exclusion being police), then they can sue for invasion of privacy. It's a tort or civil wrong.

Maybe you need to learn the laws before you post. Or, at the very least, use Google.

And Lawyers (dot) com states:

Of course, that doesn't mean that they were right for attacking the guy or that they're even protesters to begin with.

There are numerous lawsuits for invasion of privacy in NY that have been thrown out simply because the subjects were in a public place. This is the reason the paparazzi gets away with what they do. There is no difference. The famous cannot sue a photographer for taking there photo in public and selling it to the National Enquirer. There is no difference between the two.
