The intro from 2:15 on gives me chills "Today the grown men become little boys again, living their fantasy all over the world." This makes me wish i could play HS Football again, I miss it. There is not greater thrill than playing football, regardless if it is pro or not.
I have to say I'm not a real Bills fan by any means but goodness, I feel so bad for Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, and Bruce Smith, among others who worked so hard for four straight years and never got a real chance after that loss in Super Bowl XXV.
The year Minneapolis was the undisputed king of the sports world with the Super Bowl, Final Four, World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, and U.S. Open golf all in less than a 1 year span.
@melhem79 I'm talking about his tenure with CBS. I am fully aware that Summerall moved to Fox with the NFC contract, and that was his final Super Bowl period, but I am just refering to his run on CBS.
@dalekusa Reading iz hards...haha....Yeah, ON CBS it was his last because NBC had the next two Bills-Cowboys Superbowls and Fox took over after....Fox's first Superbowl was the Pats-Packers....
the bills blew this game with those 5 turnovers, if they never turned the ball over, the out come may have been the other way around, same with the next 2 sb's after that, 9 turnovers in 27, and 3 in 28. they were a much better team than that
Even though I was too young to remember CBS' coverage of the NFC (1956-1993), it's stuff like this that makes me wish that CBS never lost football to FOX. CBS' idea of introducing a Super Bowl circa 2010, is to have Jay-Z and Rihanna hijack the proceedings. Is CBS that desperate to be relevant with current pop culture!?
Yeah, the worst thing to happen to the NFL are: A) the salary cap and B) the NFC going to FOX. I hope to heck someway the NFC goes back to CBS. It just seems natural that way.
What really bugs me is that supposedly, CBS dumped the Frankie Vinci theme after 2002 in favor of "Posthumus Zone" because they wanted a theme similar to FOX's and wanted to distance themselves to the 1956-1993, NFC version of "The NFL on CBS".
0:33 -- Did the city use eminent domain to put that trophy there? Did the residents get to vote for it in the past election? The Lombardi Trophy looks funny amidst the Minneapolis/St. Paul skyline.
I'm a Cowboys fan and I naturally hate the Redskins, but this was a good Super Bowl. I wonder what was so bad about the Metrodome that they haven't played another Super Bowl there.
@MrSeattlehawk94 All too true. The best thing about it is the debut of CBS' best NFL theme along with what is still my favorite CBS Sports graphics package.
Pat Summerall and John Madden were THE BEST ANNOUNCING TEAM in the history of the NFL. It'll be interesting this year to see who steps their game up to be the team that everyone wants to see
The 1991 Redskins team was a well oiled machine. They set the tone on opening day destroying the Lions 45-0 at RFK Stadium on Sunday night "Nitro" on TNT. They went 11-0 before losing to the Cowboys.
Yeah I think they started thinking 19-0. i am a 49ers fan if you remeber the 49ers started 4-6 finished 10-6 did not make the palyoffs a lot of people thouhgt they were the second best team that year in the NFC. Would you agree the Redskins were glad the 49ers did not make they playoffs. they may have beaten them. May have being the key word.
Yeah, you can't beat the great voice of Pat Summerall. I sure miss the days of Summerall and Madden. They were arguably the best pro football announcing duo ever.
That's the legendary Don Robertson, the voice-over of CBS Sports throughout the 70s and 80s and into the 90s. This was his last Super Bowl, and I think he retired from CBS after it lost the NFL to FOX.
That Redskins team was filled with gritty veterans...but fell off quickly after that championship. Next year they were destroyed by San Fran in the playoffs, followed by a 4-12 campaign in '93.
49ers winning 20-13 is not exactly destroying the Redskins. This was a divisional playoff game at a soggy, rain soaked Candlestick Park. Washington could have won or at least tied the game if it hadn't been for the poorly executed handoff to Brian Mitchell by QB Mark Rypien at the 49ers 23 yard line late in the game. Unfortunately, this was Coach Gibbs last game before retiring on March 5, 1993.
As epic as that intro was, I couldn't help but think...man, the DETROIT LIONS were actually in the NFC Championship in 1991. It sucks because they weren't ever in that game at RFK
Whoever suggested to leave the Super Bowl title on black for 10 tense seconds was both a genius and a douche. How dare they tease us with this still logo while listening to the best NFL theme ever made?
And I just realized why the video slid in from the side after the eternal black: to make it look like the 3-D football "pulled" the video onto the screen. That...also pretty genius. But let's face it...the whole '92 presentation screamed genius.
I just noticed that the pregame coverage still used the Super Bowl XXIV music. Wonder if the idea was to use that theme one last time for the Super Bowl today.
By using the old themes (albeit with a newer-sounding flavor) for the pregame shows, CBS is then able to provide an element of surprise by introducing the new music for its game coverage. It makes the viewer that much more amped-up for the actual game. I remember being fired up for this Super Bowl more than any other, precisely because the new theme blew me away. The graphics were also sharp, and the Summerall narration (with that fantasy-movie-like theme) sealed it
I'm referring to the fact that another YouTube poster showed a partial cut of this CBS opening for Super Bowl XXVI. It started just before the debut of the CBS NFL theme (at 3:33 of this clip). When I say "someone got the whole thing," I'm referring to the fact that EyeonTV was able to show the full montage/package before the NFL theme, which had not yet existed on YouTube. This montage begins with the walk down the tunnel and the images of past super bowls, with Pat Summerall narrating.
You don't know how happy I am to see this one. When I had my WVECSpirit channel, I uploaded what was only a partial clip toward the end of the intro that had been copied from a tape my uncle had.
