Generally, I think Parsifal is a bit uneven but the overture is wonderful. Does it really matter what Wagner did or didn't believe. Can we not just be happy with the music?
Thank you for this post. Very beautiful. He could not have known how confusing he would become for many, long after his passing. For me, his music is foreverness itself (along with the music of some other composers). People expect that this musically heroic figure, creating heroic music, should have been perfect. Well, he wouldn't have been human. By the way, just wondering if Facebook is taking people away from other (more valuable?) internet learning and experiences. Regards- Australia
Calling all Wagner lovers… Hear Rene Papé, Gary Lehman and Violeta Urmana in a new recording of Wagner’s Parsifal with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky. Find out more on our channel ( mariinskylabel ) and go to the Mariinsky label website to hear some soundclips ( search for Mariinsky label )
unlike all his other opera's this one is really awful..its just this overture that is brilliant. but parsifal as an opera - marks the fall of wagner in terms of genius
One of my favorites. I love "Parsifal's Overture." My all-time Wagner favorite, and one of my favorites in general in terms of music, is Siegfried's Funeral March."
@175924 He was but then so many were in Europe. You could almost say it was fashionable at the time. Others that have created great art have also fallen prey to using Jewish stereotypes in their work and of harbouring antisemetic sentiments; Shakespeare and Dickens among them.
Beautiful! This was used in the last Inspector Morse episode- "The Remorseful Day" It is played when Lewis goes to say a final goodbye to Morse after he has died. Very touching use of a superb piece of music.
I hope you stay mentally healthy for many years to come. You don't want to wake up every morning with what might be the epitome of German Romanticism. Utterly unhealthy. Utterly not a beginning of anything. Red sunset music in any respect. Best wishes from a Romantic from Germany.
I hope you gain mental health in the coming years. You don't want to exclude yourself from German Romanticism your whole life. Utterly unhealthy. A good way to remain ignorant. Best wishes from Anton. :)
