lol Ray has the makings of a whisky stil... Ray is a great guy but he dropped the ball on this one coz who the hell has at least a 7 foot length of plastic tube and a kettle with a special lid on them to distil drinking water from salt water.
Yeah its practible but totally useless in the real world that most of us would need water in survival mode.
@chochamsprime said "only thing is clear tubes make algae"
The steam kill it.
The only problem with his coil is the lack of spacing. This would have been much more efficient if the tube was warped in cloth before coiling it. Even better, spaced out completely so air flow in between the coils.
plastic is an insulator this is why his still sucked. would work great if he used a pipe that actually conducted heat. copper or aluminum would be best, but if it must roll up and unroll multiple times flexible electrical conduit would work (clean it out good 1st). if you must go with plastic look for the thinnest wall possible that will take the heat so it can transfer the heat more efficiently to the air (or wet towel) it also helps to submerge the coil if you have a 2nd container large enough
And I just craft hose pipe from the bark of this tree and forge this container from the ore I found earlier , good tips but not real survival at its fittest
one can use a solar still to do this as well and it requires no fire,no billy can ,or any of that. In fact you can even distill urine into clean water, One need only a small sheet of tarp, plastic and a cup and a small rock. Worth looking up.
@nlightened2 yes it would. using plastic tubing for this is just stupid. using tubing this large a diameter is stupid, since it means less surface area per cross section, which in turn means less heat exchange with the air. also, coiling it up is stupid, since it reduces surface area even more. you have all the room in the world, no need to coil it up. check out the dual survival episode "adrift" to see how it's done properly.
@aseglkj he's using plastic to recreate a situation you fucking twat. and he coiled it because he DID need to save room. otherwise, the towel wouldn't cover the whole tube, thus losing a bunch of possible water due to condensation.
@quinnweller looks like you have a crush on pudgy ray, otherwise you wouldn't get so worked up and defend him like he was your girlfriend.
In any case, recreate a situation? He obviously bought the fucking equipment and brought it with him, so he might as well have gotten the proper stuff. While he was at it, he might also have bought more than one fucking towel. Stop fantasizing about sucking ray's tiny dick for five minutes and watch how cody lundin does it.
@aseglkj You know, they say homophobes are the deepest in the closet.
I actually watch Dual Survival all the time. Moreso than Ray. I'm not a fanboy of ray mears, however he is recreating the situation of how whomever is is reenacting as survived. He was in the middle of Australian bush, presumably from a boat crash. He can't just stroll down to wal-mart and buy better equipment you stupid cunt. Survival is about making due with what you have.
If you cover the plastic tube with dry grass, keep the cooler condensation loop and works better..

I wonder if copper tubing would draw off the heat from the steam and improve the condensing of the water vapor?

Thats very simular to how alcohol is distilled.
arthurleon1387 1 year ago
@arthurleon1387 Same priciples apply except Alcohol evaporates at a cooler temp so it's easier to distill
