Just because linex is almost free don't mean that Windows is absolutly crappy. Windows is pricey cause they're are the best operating system. Lots of people use Windows. I don't see any way that Linux could catch up with them. Dell is in the right place at the mo

Actually, Windows is the main cause of proprietary HELL. Windows actually blocks out the customer from changing features that are important to security...want it done? Pay MS to do it. Also, defraging is only a problem with windows, because of its horrible coding. It's easiest to hack as well. It is no where near the best. LINUX IS free...not almost free, and is also the best available ;). as far as not being able to catch up..they are getting there.

Windows is not the best operating system. For every purpose there is a right tool. For some purposes Windows serves right. For others, I wouldn't see a way Windows to catch up with Linux ;)

A few examples of DELL and proprietary solutions from my one (and last) DELL computer:

-> completely proprietary CPU cooling solution

-> TV-Out that produces a signal that no ordinary TV can display. I had to import a special cable from an US website to make that work

-> DVD burners: The firmware updates for the retail version won't work on the DELL version, and - of course - DELL won't release a firmware update of their own.
