try itf tkd.search for tomaz barada. he was a tkd fighter and used it well in tkd tourniments and kick boxing ones. he was 6 times world kick boxing champion. his record was 86 wins no loses. also look for lukasz jurkowski who is a top tkd fighter in mma from eastern europe. we traing sparing in tkd from day one. you just went to a shit dojo.
barada was a light contact kickboxing champ which isnt fighting ,although he was brilliant at what he did.Lukasz has only done well at the lower level of competition in mma but he is not your average itf practitioner but has done a lot of crosstraining. Both itf and wtf are poor efforts as combat systems, wtf being worse.
all guys who do mma cross train. cung le did well as a TKDer in MMA many MMA fighters have got black belts in TKD, bas rutten, andy hug, anderson silva, cung le, pat smith, serkan yilmaz. GSP has commented on how effective he see's some of the kicks from TKD and uses the spinning back kick in his fights. many ITF guys do very well in full contact kick boxing comps. it depends how well they adapt. ITF TKD is for self defense and not ring fighting WTF is just a sport.
Its a long, long time since any of the guys you mention trained tkd except maybe yilmaz and all without exception had kickboxing training .Its the full contact sparring and boxing hands thats effective, not the tkd.ITF is about as far away from self defense training as you can get.
what about bill ( superfoot) wallace he came from a point fighting back ground then became an undefeated kick boxer. point fight is a good way to start your martial arts career then when you are confident enough with your techniques you can progress on to full contact many many martial artist start this way.
that would be waste of time really as the methods used in points fighting would have to be unlearned. What I did with students was teach thai boxing methods and increase contact as their confidence developed always with proper equipment
u may have experience but i doubt u've ever been to one in korea. that's all i have to say. they train at least 10000 kicks a day for one practice at school teams. with experiences with several MA i've never lost against any other MA fighters using tkd but a few other tkd ppl. like they say it depends on how hard the fighter trains.
In TKD blocking is very important, but only in real life. In competitions like said before, blocking is suicidal because of leg strength. True flips and stuff is rarely done, it's for show, but the speed, flexibility, and strength shown is what TKD is really about, truly a fine example to why we can kick ass.
Not always. I saw a video of a TKD competition where non-blocking was suicidical. The guy recived the kick in his head and died 3 days later.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Then watch the video where a TKD fighter defeats a Muay Thai fighter or the one where a TKD fighter kills an other one with a head kick. I can give you the names if you want.
TKD is just a spot(TKD ppl have admited to it after talking to them), and the fight with the thai boxer was rather lame, he should go to thai land and do that. The ring they were fighting in has a bunch of fights with "thai boxers" and TKD ppl and each time the TKD person won, but the thai boxers look like they only been training for 2 months tops, I'd break them myself and I haven't stepped into the ring yet.
Serkan Yilmaz, He's the only credible TKD fighter who had the balls to walk into a K1 Ring and did good but lost to Masato. He was doing all the cool stuff in the first round and then got peppered in the second and 3rd. But that's 1 out of how many TKD people in the world? TKD produces artists, not fighters. And the olympics style is nothing more than playing tag with the feet as they call it. I wouldn't want to trade kicks with them, but take away the range they have to kick and they are done.
Not Serkan Yilmaz iz the only one. Type TKD K1 and you find some other showreels. I also found a video where a TKD fighter fights and defeats a Sanda or Muay Thai fighter. I have the tendency to noticew in TKD vs. Muay Thai figths about as many TKD fighters win as many Muay Thai fighters.
if you are talking about the G5 ring, that ring was made for the purpose of publicity, they don't talk top fighters and have them fight, and in those videos of the MT or Sanda, it looks like they only been training for 6 months.
there should be top fighters fighting each other, it's the only way to get a good fight if you want to see style vs style. But a black belt in TKD takes how long to get? and if those MT or Sanda fighters are worse than guys I know that have been training for 6 months then... Invite a real fighter, vs a real TKD guy. But when looking at world class fighrers how many are TKD? from my own experiance, 10 years of TKD vs my 1st year of MT, I broke all 4 TKD, bigger and smaller. I didn't kick with 'em
Belts are not important, only knowledge. So you think Sanda VS TKD was an unfair fight? Why should anyone go into an unfair fight for him? Six months vs black belt, Maybe they trained about the same time but the Sanda fight was simple worse. If thats true that shows that that's not important what you take, thats important how hard you work. Why only top fights can be counted? I think if both opponents trained the same time, it doesn't mattar, that are they from the bests or not.
why only top fighters? because you would get a real fight out of it. Look at the world class fighters, how many are TKD? Like I said, that ring was made for propaganda, based on the way they figh they only look like they have been doing it for a few months.I'm sure a black belt takes atleast 2 years. How ever you look at it, TKD is nothing more than an art. When they start producing world class fighters, I'll give them more credit. I like watching them though it's cool, but learning to fight nah
ITF is more combat oriented, I'd rather that over WTF, but because of the popularity of WTF and when it went into the olympics, TKD in general started to get washed away.
I agree with you on one thing, a fight is highly dependant on the fither's own ability. However, an amature of one art vs an amature of an other goes along way in fights if a style is made for combat and the other is for art. An amature at say, MT, vs an amature at TKD, both have trained for 1 month. my money is on the MT guy, why? because they train to fight, and in my case when I first started, we were sparring right off the bat. TKD, forms, forms, forms, that had nothing to do with fighting.
I walked into a WTF place and didn't stay because all we would learn is forms untill you're blue belt. And the forms being learned were "good" in theory, but in all practicality useless. I watch my friends someonetimes, and then I ask them what they are doing, and then I tell them why in a real fight it's unless.
traditional arts like TKD and Karate were never designed to be ring sports the focus was and still is on self defence. striking hard to the vanurable area's of the human body, the eyes, genitals, throat etc we still train knees, elbows, chokes and joint locks. but our sparring is justto learn distance time and to practise technique against a resisting opponent. muay thai is however now a sport, one of the best may i add but ring fighting is its focus.
and Muay Thai isn't still used for war, and combat... riiight... Just as there are hardcore tradictional Karate and TKD places, there are the same for Muay Thai, so if you're thinking it's just a ring sport... you're sadly mistaken
yer mauy thai was used for war but it was mauy boran during war times. muay thai is the sport variation of mauy boran. what i meant was that now muay thai focuses totally on effective ring fighting instead of its self defence roots where as traditional TKD and karate places focus on self defece primarily. i was under the impression that muay boran was banned in thailand so they watered it down into muay thai. no disrespect to muay thai its a truly awesome and brutal art.
So I guess because it's a sing sport now it's not effective in a self defence situation... hope you know there's no such thing as self defence, only fighting... cuz what are you doing when you're defending yourself? you're fighting... Iuno about you, but I fund it very useful if the other person is unarmed...
i never said that at all your totally mis understanding me. all i was saying is that if you want to be a prize fighter than muay thai is probally your best bet for stand up which of course you can still use for self defence. where if you dont want to ring fight but still want to learn how to defend your self then the more traditional arts are for you. any martial art will allow you to defend yourself.
taekwondo is about kicking and punching, but in sparring, the only thing they do is kick, i dont even see them even try to make a decent block. its rediculous. when i spar, i do both
you are right i train and fight by using solid strong punches. but and a big but as i got along in training during the years blocking has been reducced in importance so when i see punch coming i just get into him realy fast and knee him or elbow. the point is that if you are really good in a martial art and fast as hell than blocking wouldnt be such an important factor (as long as its a 1vs1) but agree that must of this vid is mostly acrobatics
yea, blocking is good, when youre in the lower ranks. take it from me though, once you get to the higher ranks, not even black belt yet, the kicks get so strong its suicide to try to block em. if you do block, youll still feel it a week after.
looks like they taught a gymnastics team how to kick. But serious, like 1% of people taking Tae Kwon Do can do that shit right there. Awesome to watch though
i have been training karate for 8yrs and here in malta we train against various other clubs of different sports. i never found a chalenging opponent of tae kwon do. but i have to admit that this vid has left me truly impressed. congratulations to the whole team.
