There's also the issue that this is the Sport model, which only has very minor improvements over the base model, which is > $30k cheaper. Base model does 0-60 in 3.9 instead of 3.7 seconds, but has the same range.
If only the best will do, and money is no object, go for the sport. if you have to finance it, get the base model. Or wait for the Model S.
The Sport is a $19,500 option -- certainly not >$30k. Minor improvements is subjective, but it includes the more powerful motor (going from 3.9 to 3.7 sec 0-60 is a big difference that you can really feel!), fully adjustable suspension, and lightweight forged wheels. It all makes a noticeable difference over the base model. But yeah, 3.9 sec 0-60 is still REALLY fast. Lambo Gallardo, Ferrari F430 fast.

It's more like 109k. They got the numbers wrong.
And the new one, model s, will be 57k.
50k after uncle Sam chip in.
Pure awesomeness is seldom cheap, but look at how fast we are getting there.

When petrol hits five dollars a gallon in the US, who will doubt the economics of the alternatives?

You know when you say the price tag, you could at least tell people that it's faster off the line than cars that costs twice as much.
Of course a large majority of people are not going to buy it, large majority of people don't buy sports cars.
