@sunhbot I'm with you, what a guitar player, I'm going to nick his style! I imagined he died like the usual jazzer but looked it up and he died saving someone's life! You know where to get more of his stuff?
great song... this was actually the version i was looking for, vaguely remembering hearing it played by my father when i was young. thx for the upload... it's good to hear good music in this day and age
fjzingo, Because that's what roy does, he brings a different sound to his music. He does what no one does today that's why I buy jazz only, R&B SUCKS, Nobody can sang or play real music. What Roy is playing is call a vibe which was called a one time XYLOPHONE. VIBRAPHONE PIPES AND A FOOT PEDAL which nobody can play but those that are GIFTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This video is shortened but in the full version Roy Ayers explains that he was doing a tribute to Miles Davis using this machine to simulate the trumpet.
Roy's music is mesmerizing,,,,I remember seeing him on the Camden (NJ) waterfront. Just as he was about to sing "Running Away", it had begun to rain. It started pouring, but everyone was dancing and having a good time as it we were in the sunshine.
audrisrozelle, I was at Detroit's Hart Plaza for his BET Jazz show recording and as they started to play My Life "In the Sunshine" it started to rain but the sun remained shinning... nobody moved...
Whew!!! God this brings back memories of hot summer days and warm summer nights in Central Park in '76... Fantastic update of a true classic. Thanks for posting.
Why don't you do this. Download the video, then use FLV extract to take off the audio in mp3 format. You can get loads of rare live music on your mp3 player that way :)
this is a good record also on the album is the song The Third Eye...music to the ears and that black stone on that fore head

Love this song but it's sick, why play a muted trumpet synth solo on what is it mallets????
fjzingo 2 years ago
@fjzingo
Probably the same reason a guitarist (Al Di meola for instance) would use a Synclavier, to extend their "vocabulary" or same something differently.
