Interesting ! We have a terifiying superstition if a Little Owl is calling near to your house, somebody will die soon. So,now this little bird is calling here, and I just wanted to check the song. Lucky that they are at least 100 people in the blocks around. Stil....:-( Do you have the same superstition ?
My parents told me the exact same thing about the little owl's call! It happened a few times when I was at my parents village. I would hear the little owl's call and the next day I would hear the church bells going signaling a death to one of the locals ! The little owl has another call which sounds even scarier!.. This is the call I would hear when I was at my parents village(Greece, Pirgos section): wwwdotwildowldotcodotuk/Athene_noctua_Adultdotmp3
@Nefertari155 ...and Serbia too. Only it's not this particular call of hers that scares village folk. It's the one much louder, sounding like high-pitched "youwee!" repeated several times in succession. For this reason, it's called Kukumavka or Kukavija, from verb "kukati" for being kind of similar to cry of lament. They are slowly regaining their numbers and getting out of endangered status, with this superstition fading over time which can still be found in more isolated villages.
