Like, even though your spine is hosed, you get around very well using this awesome technology. In so doing, you greatly inspire many folks, including those whose spines are hosed. Way to go, babe!
How awesome is that? I bet you have the coolest car in the neighborhood too. I love how medical technology has come a LONG way over the years. I'm partially blind and can't drive myself....but hey you never know. This is inspirng
I'm surprised that the people who converted your van didn't fit a headrest for you. I think that you are taking a big risk driving without one considering you have already suffered from a neck injury previously. Anyway, apart from that well done, I know exactly how it feels to be able to drive the high-level injury. I drive a Mercedes sprinter van that is fitted with space drive technology
@MooseheadDrinker no… I live by myself. Are you injured? Some states have programs that help fund the equipment for the car, as long as you are looking for work. The whole goal of the funding program is that, the funding of the equipment will allow you to get out of the workforce. If you're injured… What is your level?
@dann21388 no i am not injured. i am just really curious.
i have a relative who works with people with various injuries/medical conditions and they don't have it as good as you. are you looking for work? have you found anything?
@MooseheadDrinker no, i'm not looking for work. just trying to make the best of my situation. life as a quadriplegic sucks, but i know i have it better than other quads and i am fortunate & thankful for that. im going to try and volunteer at an animal shelter when i move to florida in jan.
...a great demo of the outfitted van. First dashboard I've seen with analog speedometer etc. with black numerals on white background...good contrast.
I also assume the steering control movement has a 1:1 ratio with steering wheel, e.g., you twist the turntable so its edge moves 6", the steering wheel rim also moves 6". (correct me if I am wrong)
@jwm239 you're welcome… I don't know if there is an override on the steering, but there definitely is on the brakes, because I was pressing the brakes when I was going onto a ramp on the highway a couple months ago, and I pressed on them a little too hard and my hands started to rock back and forth giving the van gas and brake and was jerking me back and forth, and I hit the sign going onto the ramp, did a 180 and then all of a sudden the emergency brake went on, and I was in the grass. Scary!

dann21388 3 months ago
@dann21388 umm maybe you could split it up, like say the cost of the van and the "equipment" separately. just curious

@jwm239 Thanks! The wheel is a 2:1 ratio. I turn the little wheel twice for a full movement on the big one. A 1:1 ratio would be too sensitive.
dann21388 3 months ago
@dann21388 ...Thank you for detail about 2:1 ratio...is there an override in case of emergency, e.g.,
deer runs into your path and a quick, incisive turn is needed...?
