@WeHaveExplosive yes m8....wish i could go back and see all again....as we all do....they just done a gig at shepherds push empire..wish i had gone..but sometime things are best left as memories...to a point with certain bands if members have changed keep the memory the same.... lemmy days were fantastic..silver machine etc...tho i was only 12 then..lol... my best album got to be worrier on the edge of time..
@mk3nog nogi i was there too with you. Michael Moorcock threw some books into the crowd and there was a massive scramble for 'em and guess what? I got one!!!! only problem was, it was in german!!! it's now in the loft somewhere gathering dust.
@kkostas21925 Believe it or not the name was actually a nickname of former vocalist and Sax player Nik Turner, who had a habit of 'hawking' (English slang - raising phlegm in the throat) and farting (breaking wind), later on Dave Brock offered a more sensible explanation to the name; the hawk being an important historical symbol in both Egyptian and Pagan mythology, and the Japanese proverb "Better to be the hawk that flies over the forest than the eagle that flies over the mountain".
this is brilliant I have this all on one album - The Chronicle of The Black Sword live at Stonehenge & it is without doubt the most brilliant album I possess hence I have worn both the main & bonus CD to shreds (cant get another copy either). For anyone who doesnt know the connection between Michael Moorcock & Hawkwind try finding/borrowing a copy of Elric of Melniboné by M.M. first published in GB in 1972, that should lead you to Arioch, Cymoril, Yyrkoon, Rackhir & to the battle for Law & Chaos
my favourite hawkwind era ,they are a banned band in our home but i still get to see them every year ,no fucker seems to understand them or has even heard of them in the present day but some of the best gigs ever lol
I had the great privledge of seeing these guys in 72 I think it was in Atlanta. They were scheduled to play the Fox but blew the power generator and were moved aross the street to Alex Coolies Electric Ballroom. A smllaer and fine venue that they simply rocked to the ground. One of my finest memories! Thanks for posting this for us!
i was there....all them years ago...fantastic gig ..seeing michael moorcock as well

Love it.
People say 70's Hawkwind is the best, but i followed them throughout the 80's, so this is "my" era.
Ludders1963 7 months ago
@Ludders1963 I love the 80s stuff, especially Harvey's synths, Chronicle Of The Black Sword was my first Hawks LP :)

lol not a song for the epileptics, then again nor is any Hawkwind gig.
The guy dressed up as Elric cracks me up.
"so what do you do in the band then?"
"I put on a white wig and makeup and walk around a bit"

uncleambient 3 years ago 2
Haha, well I'm glad you said it before I did... but yeah, the whole concert is very 'Tap. Excellent music all the same.
WeHaveExplosive 3 years ago 3
Yeah great song. Difference is that hawkwind seem dead serious about the theatrics though.
It's funny how that one guy's sole function is to swing that broadsword around the whole song...
marumaru54 3 years ago
I'd love that job though
