  • Auckland motorways will be beneficial in the future alright! As over-sized bicycle lanes that is :p

  • im doing my bit of not owning a car and just relying on public transport. i'm just about to give up. sick and tired of broken down trains while more and more money are spent on improving the stations. does anyone not understand the word priority

  • These Pro Road motherfuckers have angered me to no end after watching this. The politics, the lies even TransitNZ. Useless the lot of them!!

  • LOL Auckland....the byword in public transportation for fail

  • Thanks for video, that's truth, Akl public transport is shit(sorry but it is, and smell bad). The only hope that gvnmt will electrificate lines before RWC2011, cuz it's shame to show these trains(that is not even that, that junk on iron wheels) and buses(only half of them with conditioning) to tourist. Oh and bus carrying pax from airport to city... what a shame

  • 'If you are spending your money on infrastructure that relies on cheap oil to keep it going, you are wasting your time

  • Auckland is a great city, its biggest problem was the townplanners inability to foresee how fast and big Auckland would grow, they are actually completing the motorway system that was first mapped out in 1955, it was never finished, they are also looking at other options like building better railway, but unfortunately things go real slow over here, by the time this plan is finished it will be too small to handle the population of the day! we need to ditch building motorways and roads already!

  • In 1990, Auckland was 10 years behind Perth in terms of public transport iniative. Now, we are 25 years behind.

  • In NZ the transport infrastructure is not catering for our needs, we have a history in NZ of having very intelligent and innovative engineers, but unfortunately they are thwarted by our fucked up build everything cheap motto, and then the long drawn out process of regulations and rules that go through different committees and then 25 to 30 years later we start to build it, then its done cheaply like the Harbour bridge. it will be 30 years before Auckland has under water tunnel to city.

  • I live in Vancouver & have lived in Sydney, Copenhagen & Amsterdam. Ive been to most modern cities for work. Im currently coming to the end of my contract in Van & looking at where 2 go next; the main reason I dont want to go back to Akl is public transport. Akl need fast rail on corridors & light rail in downtown areas. Increasing oil prices, drunk drivers, $40 taxis to go out, crazy! Preserve our environment, impress tourists, bring ex-pats home, Have a beer & ride train home; C'mon Auckland!

  • Where are the other two parts? We have been waiting for ages now!

  • Good question

  • yes this uploaded in march last year come on

  • coppenhagen looks like its worth a visit...

  • I don't mind if they force me to live in NZ. It seems like a beautiful country.

  • Des Moi when Part 4 arrives please notify me, Merci. Loved the video's. I'm an American and I'll be moving to Auckland in a couple of years. Thanks.

  • Hi Mike - any idea when the next chapter is coming?

  • i hate suburbia it doesn't have the anemities of the city and doesn't have the anemities of the countryside so suburbia has the worst of bost KEEP SUBURBIA CRYING AND THE CITY COMING!

  • So there are thinking people in Auc. after all! I am forced to live in Auc. for three more yrs. and then I am off. Cant wait! I miss trams, trains, and bikes. Most of all I miss not getting pissed on every time I take a walk. One problem with vid. is that it treats Auc. as if it were a city and compares it to other, real cities. Auc. is suburbia so compare it to suburbia. I bet it compares well to townships in the US.

  • "I am forced to live in Auc. for three more yrs. and then I am off. Cant wait!" seljo55, Good riddance, and by the way, you're "forced to live" in NZ? Oh really? Nobody is forced to live in NZ, don't like it then leave, that simple! Bitching won't do anything, just makes you look like a proper asshole.

  • Got what u r saying bro. Though this place would b a shithole even if they built trains and the weather improved. It's the people man. People in Auc are the sadest combo of white trailer trash, welfare darkies, and asian petty businessman. The women are extremely ugly with short fat legs and wide hips, men are sad and desperate...how u r gonna fix dat?

  • NameFrUtube, you speak the truth my friend. I left 3 years ago and I ain't never coming back.

  • lmao... very nice :)

  • @NameFrUtube Car based cities are depressing by their nature. Lack of public space, hostile car only environments. If people rode bikes more they also would not be so fat.

  • then why don't you just piss off already? who wants you here anyway?

  • Thanks for these great videos Mike. I am a Geography teacher - and these are going to significanly help my students understand the issues with Auckland's growth and the solutions to our growth. I have included them on my GeographybyLizz wiki to help them understand.

I am looking foward to the next two. Keep up the great work!

  • For me its a no brainer. Rail is the way and unfortunately our govt doesnt understand! Dont vote Labour or Nat next time. Vote green! They want this to happen!

  • Mike this is fantastic! well done what a great job. IF TVNZ don't play this they're dumb! I thought i knew a bit about this subject but obviously not enough...you spell it out so simply - BRILLIANT

  • we would build more public transport in britain if there weren't so many listed protected buildings that are unable to build more rail because there is no room but we keep building those terrible wretched trams! but we have very good buses

  • "Uneconomic"? How come that i.e. Hamburg public transport has 357 million passengers/year using 9 (subway-/rapid transit-) lines with 215 km total length and 148 stations? Plus 192 million passengers/year using 654 buses on 113 lines with 881 km total length and 1.295 bus stops.

  • Excellent, I agree entirely. Off overseas because New Zealanders just dont get it.

    Nathan

  • Another great chapter in a great series. The salient points are put succintly and seriously. Well done. Chapter 4 please :-)

  • Good work, send this to transit, or even TVNZ!

  • Excellent video - nice work!

  • Brilliant series Mike. I've never been to Auckland, but I found your videos to be very interesting/educational about Public Transport in general.
