  • do real pull-ups instead,

  • coolbeans

ps i hate L pull ups

  • Kipping is so fkin gay

  • Nice vid man and nice bar u got there

  • The awkward moment where tht part of the roof collapses due to the weight....

  • Nice

  • Wrong Kipping pull ups are cheat pull ups which are rubbish and easier to do for much less power and overall strength to body weight ratio. Muscle ups are great on the other hand but they use a kipping pull up start if done that way because it is easier and because you have to push yourself up away from the bar rather than up towards it for a muscle up. Trying to do a muscle up with a real pull up bringing your shoulders to the bar rather than away from it would be infinitely harder.

  • showoff

  • Its all in the grip! Great video!

  • @Ispeachy0611 Original song got kicked by u tube for copyright and this was a generic song they offered as a replacement so I have no idea who it is. studbarpullup hook one up!

  • Compare the kipping pull up to the push press. You are not using momentum in either movement. You are using your hips to generate additional power that power is then transfered from the hips to the arms and back. It is a complex movement. When I first started kipping I could do far more strict pull ups than kipping. My core and grip wasn't strong enough to do more than 10 reps without gasping for air. Both exercises are great but don't think that either is more difficult than the other.

  • Fuck i hate L-pull ups

  • nice to see a fitness video that doesn't have fruity music

    haha

  • I was waiting for someone to pop out of the door and get kicked

  • Comment removed

  • I laughed at the butterfly kipping pull-ups.

  • good work

  • cheating pullups, NICE.

  • good job..but i don't know why people kib butterfly..i mean,it doesn't even work your arms..:/

  • LOL i was betting my friend to find someone to do double clap while doing pull ups .

LOL you are freaken badass with the 1 clap damn . try to do 2 :D BADASS

  • damn. those clapping pull ups are bad ass

  • first one your just using momentum O__o

  • momentum ftw

  • L-chin ups...not pullups...still hurt like hell tho...kipping kills my forearm more than strict...butterfly looks very interesting...never heard of it before tho...anybody know the benefits of the butterfly?

  • my only beef with crossfit is the kip....i can do those without the kip....but could he.....

fyi former crossfitter....im just a wod killer

  • that is just SICK !!!!

  • To me, this is a useful tech., especially if you are into things like rock climbing or parkour, which would presumably require you to have good pulling skills.

  • Ok, cool, now do it without swinging.

  • Ok cool....NOW DO IT WITHOUT SWINGING!!!

  • @mannyphresh1 thats how its done...its a kipping pullup. mostly used in crossfit workout where its about speed. they work the whole body rather than just the shoulder and upper back. its not cheating as many ignorant people like to say it is

  • @yamaharider58 Ignorant people are delusional as well.

  • this guy is a hero!

butterfly kips are amazing, and L pullups are soo hard. if he really did all those in a few minutes... just wow

  • Quit swinging

  • personally i dont like to count a rep unless its a full extension dead hang, but i do know alot of guys who swear by kips

  • A kipping pull-up is more of a muscular/aerobic exercise. Guys will use these to increase there max dead hang pull-ups.

  • Guys do not do it to increas max dead hang pull-ups. That is not what it is for and has nothing to do with max dead hang pull-ups. This is an aerobic exercise and if done right helps with explosiveness. This guy is doing it right no jerking.

  • In physics that concept of power is correct, but in this context he is not really developing power as the momentum disables the need for a substantial amount of muscle fibers to be recruited for the movement. If he wanted to develop power he'd be better doing 5-10 weighted, strict form pullups, with the contraction component being performed as fast as possible.

  • @civic688 this is wear body building clashes with crossfit sir,

  • I thought dead hangs were the correct way to do pullups? These kipping pullups look silly and out if control. I guess it makes people feel good if they can do alot of pull ups by cheating?

  • @oaklandraider81 it's not necessarily just trying to look cool my raider friend. The kipping pull up is often used in metabolic conditioning exercises in which the point is to fatigue the muscle so much to where the kipping motion is needed. Such exercises could be completing 100 pull ups, 100 push ups, 100 sit ups and 100 squats, in that order for time. Not trying to be smart just trying to enlighten.

  • @oaklandraider81

totaly agree .. momentum just makes there no need for muscle.. and not only is he not doing pull ups right ... hes even kipping wrong.. kipping ure knees are supposed to passed the bar ... at least thats how they taught us in the corpse .. I have yet to find a video of someone correctly kipping on youtube

  • They call these "wall-fuckers" in the usmc

  • @oaklandraider81

Yet, the usmc does crossfit-related workouts.

  • i can do 6 dead hangs, imma 13 yrs old.. : s well idc i h8 pull ups.

  • Such a cool pull up bar

  • Pritty strong dude, like it!

Jrodpaul, you may be right with the definition of power, BUT i disagree with your statement of one increasing his body's power.

Dead hang and kipping pull up is like comparing a car that constantly drives 30 mph and one driving 100 mph, than stoping, driving 100 mph again and so on ...

In the end the constantly driver gets further, but that doesnt mean that his car is stronger?!

I mean in dead hang u just interrupt and so it needs much more power to do a rep!

  • Lol power as it is defined in physics is work divided by time. More work done in less time is more power. Even though it's less intensive on the arms (and upper back) on a per-rep basis, the increase of reps-per-unit-time more than makes up for this. In addition to that, with kipping, you don't have to segregate strength and "cardio". Crossfit ftw.

  • @Funky247 very very good point.

  • you can do more work in a quicker time with the kipping pull ups. that's the definition of power. work divided by time. work is force times distance. so technically a kipping pull up and a dead-hang pull up are equal in the amount of work it takes. the force is gravity X body weight (neither of which change, and the distance is the same as well. you are able to increase your body's power output by doing high intensity training with the kip.

  • its known as kipping, used a lot in climbing and gymnastics when you need more of a dynamic, explosive movement. its also good to use a kipping motion when learning to do muscle ups. the standard pull should comprise the bulk of the lat training (include weighted chins, negatives, partials, and static holds) but it is beneficial to do the odd set of kipping pulls.

  • never come across this before, whats the idea behind getting so much momentum? its never gunna build as muscle as if he were doing them slowly and controlled is it?

  • that guy was pretty buff... just throwin that out there xD

  • @ghostofparty123 looks like its pretty tough on the shoulders... specially with the butterfly kipping

  • thats why its called a kipping video.

  • butterfly pullups are way harder, both butterfly and kipping build explosiveness, a dead hang pull up is an isolation exercise while the Butterfly and kipping do not target a specific muscle group

  • looks like it might be a good ab work out. maybe good for learning how to get momentum.

  • so are butterflies easier or harder?

  • I don't know but their funny as hell to see a fat kid doing them to pass gym.

  • i think that formula just applies to anything.

eating, sleeping, getting angry, singing, running, rollin down a hill, rolling down a hill when he was taking a nap when he fell asleep singing, eating some fudge, he then finds himself roling down a hill and he's swearing his jelly rolls off.

    you know, the normal stuff

  • Lol yep.

  • harder...well, everyone is different. but for the butterfly you have to get the movements down first..same with the reg. kip

  • so L pull ups aren't real?

  • no swingging or jerkin` around....stay stil while doing them.......

  • please do me a favor and do a muscle up so you can bumb your head aganst the seiling .

  • L pull-ups are intense. Nice

  • wow those arent real pull ups not using strength at all just using momentum to get over

  • However i think these kips are really effective for general fitness. Ive seen some amazing results from crossFit training.

  • kipping pull ups are so gay!

  • I dont see you doing any sort of strength exercise on your page... all I see is a lame picture with some wannabe Kool Keith raps LOL thumbs down!!!

  • how much do one of those cost

  • Good work man, watch your rebound when you get fatigued ;)

  • Knowing me i would smack my chin off the bar if i tried that.

  • awesome video

anyone know what song or band or whatever this is?

  • never heard of butterflys. If i see it from the side correctly, are you trying to pull up with your arms as straight as possible? You have a little bit of a kip action in there too. Thats pretty cool.

  • Think circles, butterfly kip is about keeping your body rotating in a circle.

  • Thanks Stuffbarpullup. Never thought or heard about this before. I'm gonna try this tomorrow.

  • good job

  • HOT!!!

    I'm a Crossfitter..great technique!!!

  • good video, i hope it help me with the butterfly technique

  • Not to undermine your hard work, Adam, but you make it all look effortless! You are a BEAST! Awesome job!

  • Excellent job... How much rest between sets, and how many sets do you do.

  • Adam is not normal. He made this video in 20 minutes with just a minute rest between sets. He can do as many sets as his hands let him until they blister and bleed.

  • Plenty of space on the side and high ceiling to express a really strong kipping pull up motion. But what if you have a small or jammed flat with lower ceiling and you dislike the pull up bar on the door frame or the pull up bar in the gym/outdoors solutions? If you have a roof space check out my funny video response above

  • That's some serious pulling power.

  • NICCEE

  • swingin like a moneky

  • false...kipping pull-ups are a violent core movement recruiting more muscle and creating more power and overall strength for a much higher strength to body weight ratio then dead hang pull ups. kipping pull-ups are the fundamental movement for the muscle-up. stop reading flex magazine and start training to be crossfit.

  • What is all this Crossfit junk I keep hearing?I duno bout these kippling pull-ups. Doesn't seem nearly the work required in a dead-hang.

  • You are correct that a dead hang is more difficult becasue you are using less of your body (only arms, shoulder, back - not your legs.) but that does not make them worthless, you usually doa higher rep count. think of this - rvs curling a100 lbs is more difficult than power cleaning 100lbs, but that doesn;t make a poqer clean worthless - it is actually more efficient, same with a kipping pullup. So they are both good, just a variation.

  • I guess so. I'll have to give it a try.

  • hmm but kipping pull-ups dont really tired you fast. for me they are more of a cardio work out cos i get tired but my muscles do not ache or anything like that when you compare it to a workout with more dead hangs being done,

  • @bombscom .......how bout you do those pull ups with out kipping......kips do make the exercise easier overall momentum helps any type of movement

  • @bombscom

I think you may be correct. I just had my first WOD 2 days ago and my core is still absolutely destroyed. I used to talk all kinds of shit about kipping. After those 4 sets of toes2rings, I never will again. Needless to say, I think I'm going to enjoy the taste of this kool-aid.

  • Good strength, that's awesome.

  • Great work!!!

  • i dont understand what this swinging motion does? is it to make the pullup easier?

  • Easier-not in my opinion, It's origins are gymnastics and allow you to do more reps faster than traditional dead hang pull ups. So if you are doing a CrossFit style workout for time these will allow you to be competitive

  • Nice Job. Great strength and great moves.

I kinda want one of these. they look pretty solid!

Anyways the last part of the video was a L chin up not pull up.

but whatever. keep up the good work!

  • This viedo is incredible is shows how this bar can hold up to anything you throw at it. Look, the bar does not move at all when preforming all types of pullups.. This is why I bougth one. I love this bar it is the best piece of gym equipment I own...Must Buy...

  • Awesome new video. Clapping and Butterfly, those are no joke.

    Thanks again.
