  • Did Jim Steinman also write music for Dance of the Vampires? I keep hearing it in this... regardless, a great song, I wish they'd put whistle down the wind on more, I'd love to see it.

  • @ChloeChum yeah he did <3

  • it's very good but i think the meat loaf versin is better because his voice is made for this song and the piano is better

  • An Absolutely Amazing musical, that deserves more credit than it got! It is a classic in my books and will always be one of my favourites <3

  • Man, I still remember doing this as monologue in high school theatre class a few years back. Time flies...

  • Who is singing this?

  • mhh, meat loaf's version is 1000times better than this...

  • I am going to see this in a month and am sooo excited! Saw it in the West End years ago and it was AMAZING!

  • I don't know what some of you are saying. This song is fantastic and way better than Meat Loaf. Meat Loaf is great in his own right. This song is way better than his version.

  • @BombasticTirade Both versions are great

  • I love this.

  • i meant cant compare

  • sorry meatloaf can compare he sounds...weird..retarded almost. he doesnt sound young enough, sorry i dont mean to offend. its just i prefer the original broadway version.

  • the musical is great. i've him seen in london a few years ago.

  • i'm afraid that I have to agree with others. The version performed by Meat Loaf is *so much* better.

And it *was* released before the cast recording ~ 12 songs were released on a 1998 album recorded by professional musicians, including Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler, The Everly Brothers, Boyzone, etc.

  • whosz singin again ;O :O

  • i love meatloaf as much as the next person his version would have sounded odd as a like 19 year old American tho............

  • Meat Loaf is much better

  • wow... Meat Loaf is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than this whinny little kid... im sorry but this is terrible!

  • uhhh...this was the original play...

  • its not, you can here it in the voice, he cant vibrato properly and also listen to the way he hits thet notes, he goes to to high on the ending notes. im a large meatloaf fan. although im 14 its easy to tell this is steve steinmans

  • this is from the London Cast soundtrack.

  • ive seen both live. and this is steve, sorry to put you down like that but his voice is about 2 notes too high on each

    im a musician aswell

  • *SPOILER ALERT* ok, escaped convict flees to the town, whilst a family mourns there mother in the church. then the oldest daughter in the family (swallow) finds the guy in her barn. He is startled and when she asks him who he is he says Jesus Christ. SHe brings him food and cares for him while the rest of the town is searching for him. Then the guy asks her to fetch a package at the train station (it has a gun in it)Then he regrets sending her, realizig he loves her. He burns down the barn. end

  • atually he burns the barn with him still in it. No sign of his body is found. Then a spotlight shines from the balcony to the stage and his voice comes on singing some bars of the song "Whistle down the wind". And remember i did say spoiler alert.

  • read my first comment first PLEASE

  • actully i think u will find tht he does surrvie he hands swallow a bible only the clever people see that it is him there is to endings if u see him give the bible then u belive he is jesus and surrives if u dnt see him then u jst think he dies and dont try and tell me im wrong coz mate i was in the tour of the show :)

  • it's so beautifull, "Jesus" told the girl to go get him a package, and then he regreted it, talk about quickly developing feelings.

  • =D Thanks for putting this up

  • This was one of the first songs that grabbed me from the musical...I just started getting into it. It sounds great!

  • this is one of the best songs in the play

    Oh I love his voice!!

  • A Very Good freinds Sn Of Mine Was In The London Prodution & No Andrew Didnt Write This Song It Was Written By Steinman.....Great Song.

  • No. It was always Andrew who wrote the music.

  • Webber composed; Steinman wrote the lyrics.

  • Thanks for backing me up.

  • just stating the facts. ^^

  • I LOVE this song!

  • I love all the songs. Does anyone know if the US touring cast soundtrack will be out soon. I saw it for sale at the show but I couldn't get it then.

  • I haven't seen it, just after the show at the theater. Maybe online???

  • Great song.

This is the first time I've heard this version. Is this the original?
