  • Many thanks for uploading this excellent production!

  • Elias - thank you so very much for uploading this production. I saw this very opera around 1990 on television that one time and have been wishing I could see it again, since. Today - I wasn't looking for this one; I was looking for any production of this opera. But - Lo! and Behold! Here's the entire opera of the production I've been LONGING to see. Again, thank you.

  • the very first notes are almost the same as the scherzo of beethoven's 9th, played backwards

  • @thesir27 I think the similarity in Ludwig's work was intentional.

  • איזו הפקה נהדרת! תודה רבה!

  • I love the video description. Thank you very much for posting!:)

  • thanks so much for posting this!

  • This is the best Don Giovanni I have ever heard! What a shame that it has never been published on a CD or DVD :(((( All performers deserve highest opera awards for this performance and Levine is absolutely amazing as conductor! He gives the right tempo to all crucial moments in the opera with an outsanding expression. It's so much better than all classic recordings made by Karajan, Gardiner or Guillini. Thanks for uploading, we can at least enjoy it on youtube.

  • bellissimo!! grazie mille di aver caricato su youtube questa opera.

  • this finale has such wonderful music, and works so well in this production ... why anyone would ever want to leave it out is beyond me!

  • <3 BEAUTIFUL! He deserved it! Brilliant Happy Fin! Thank you so much for posting & sharing*^o^* i luv it! <3

  • In the past, this final scene was omitted, and the opera would end with the Commendatore scene where he sends Don Giovanni to hell.

Thank God that approach is dead, because my FAVORITE part of the opera is that final chorus (that is, "Questo e il fin!") And what makes it even better is the "sunrise" at the end and how the six remaining characters (Anna, Elvira, Zerlina, Ottavio, Leporello, Masetto) are shown, just before the curtain-fall, as though it were a still-image! Bravo!!

  • lmao the irony of F. Murray Abraham hosting this

  • This is indeed the best Don Giovanni production I ve ever seen!

I wish I was there to watch it live!!

But at that tim I wasnt even borned XD

  • i cant get the TCCD links to work

  • So I wanted to hear my "Don Giovanni" !

  • Leporello has something terribly sensual :)

    :D

  • what was the order of the curtain calls

  • Silhouettes against a sunrise. Gorgeous!

  • What is the translation of the "gravestone" in the middle of the stage?

  • I love the little string trick before the ending 06:07

  • I loved it too!

  • Quote: Such is the fate of those who do wrong. Well, thats about right wonderful performance and moving swiftly on :). Such a selection! So much wonderful music! I had forgotten YouTube is such a wondrous resource. Hurrah!!! Kind and warm regards,

  • The best role - Leporello(Ferruccio Furlanetto), bravo!

  • I agree.

  • Furlanetto is GREAT!!! agreed w you, and I love this scene^^

  • He is and will always be my favorite singer and actor of all time.

  • Look at Furlanetto's face at 03.24-03.29 that's lovely ^^ You can actually see he's sorry.

  • Znakomity spektakl, znakomity Levine, znakomite role i znakomita scenografia. Było to dla mnie wielkie przeżycie. Obejrzałam w całości za co Tobie bardzo, bardzo dziękuję. Pozdrawiam.

  • I have to agree this is the absolute best production of don Giovanni I have ever seen. Every cast member would be a highlight in any other production. Bravo to James Levine and Zeferelli as well. I wish I owned a copy of this thanks for uploading this.

  • i luv the ending... very interestin...i also like the caption to the video.

  • we all wanted to see don giovanni suffer epicly! but all that happened was that he went to hell- and don elvira , donna anna, and don ottavio never got to have sweet victory in watching it happen whoa! that was awesome! 5 stars!!!

  • Poor Leporello, he's the only one who I actually feel sorry for.

  • agreed, who are we to secondguess mozart but ending it at the end of the commendatore scene just seems more dramatic

  • We're not second guessing Mozart...he didn't even want it in there, but the Viennese audiences pressured him into ending it happily when it showed there again.

  • I like happy endings...

The first time I ever saw Don Giovanni, they ended it right after the Commendatore and I was like, wow seriously? For such a fun-filled opera, having it end like that was actually a total bummer. So in a way I very much agree with the Viennese.

  • This was the Prague original version. People in Vienna wanted Mozart to cut out this scene, because they found it too "refreshing", and not so dramatic as the one before.

  • basically anything with kurt moll is instant gold

  • In my opinion this is the best production of Don Giovanni imaginable. The ladies are all first class but the three basses beat everybody.

  • This was one of the most sucessful productions of Don G i've ever seen! Everything about it was first rate- I especially like the women- Carol Vaness is always my favorite, even Mattila sounds great as Elvira and how could you not like Upshaw! Thanks so much for uploading!!!!!
