Basically an entire comic company could have been created and sustained through the X-Men and X-Men related characetrs alone since there are so many as opposed to them being characters among other characetrs in the Marvel Universe
@227060 Stan Lee may have introduced the X-Men in the early 60's, but it was Chris Claremont during his awesome 17 year run on Uncanny who defined the book and helped grow it into a franchise.

I was just saying that since there are so many characetrs, and the whole X-gene' thing is a super power plot generator the X-men could live independently from the rest of the Marvel universe since there are so many X-men and x-men related characters. you can see that merely by the fact that they quite regularly have their own cross overs independent from the rest of the Marvel Universe.
