  • I have a friend that does trumpet to tuba, I can manage tuba to trombone. That there is impressive.

  • i constanly switch with my alto tenor soprano and bari

  • well i can easily switch between alto and bari but there are a little bit of over blowing issues lol

  • saxaphone?

  • Oh jeez, it had a baby during rehearsal.

  • HAHA the first trombone player spazez out at 28 seconds

  • when you bought your Benedikt Eppelsheim soprillo sax did it come with a mouthpiece? Im buying one and can't seem to find anywhere online that sells soprillo sax mouthpieces

  • @siscarocks Yes, the Soprillo comes with a mouthpiece.

  • awesome, that's all i can say, but what song?

  • @Guitarhreomaster16 The song is "Daylie's Double," by Oliver Nelson. the arrangement is available as a tenor sax solo from Sierra Music Publications, Liberty Lake, WA

  • He has got some good chops, to say the least.

  • Is this "Work Song?"

And FAU seems to have a really cool music department! I was thinking about going there for grad school!

  • is it a Eb Tubax or a Bb?

  • @itunetool

    Eb Tubax

  • 15 people tried doing this and epically failed

  • i luv rosetta stone

  • 1:54 I can't quite hear the notes, but I can hear the camera shaking.

  • Has anyone other than me wondered how one guy happens to have 2 pretty rare saxophones?

  • @zy9877071 Benedikt Eppelsheim, thats the company that makes his soprillo and tubax

  • It's a miracle!~

  • The soprillo sounds a lot like jazz clarinet...

An another note:P, I often switch between soprano clarinet and bass clarinet in jazz band

  • Cool! I though switching between bassoon and contra made the bassoon feel like a toy, I would probably drop a bassoon that small!

  • You can do anything with Rosetta Stone.

  • @Vinderack

BY FAR THE BEST COMMENT YET!

  • @saxtek Are you sure? lol

  • @Vinderack

I think so. I'm translating your reply now.

  • @saxtek lol

  • @saxtek Oh, I just realized you're the person playing!

Just so you know, your skills are amazing! I wish I could play my tuba as well as you! :)

(by the way I'm still in middle school)

    I love your music!

  • EPIC WIN

  • Could be one of the best jazz songs ever. And idk how u guys switch to all those instruments the biggest switch I've ever done is from alto to Bari sax :3 I win

  • Try Swwitching from clarinet, to tenor, to bari, to trombone, to.....,.. CELLO! haha but no seriously it sucks

  • Try switching back and forth from clarinet, to tenor, to french horn.. each played at different times in the entire concert. Man, my embrochure was messed up!

  • holy crap,, this guy switching from contrabass and soprillo is astonishing. kudos to you sir!

  • i play tubax and alto. weird combo, but regardless, i can't switch unless i literally have 5-6 hours. Bravo

  • Is this the Hartford High School?

  • bravissimo!

  • Where did u get the soprillo sax??

  • How do you adjust your air so quickly!!!! When i play my alto right after the bari the first few notes i accidentally blast... after about 2 beats i tone back down but still... lol

  • The switching must be tough. I remember I used to have a hard time in high school switching back and forth between bari sax and soprano sax. ugh! It's pretty easy now since I'm used to even having to switch between sax, flute, and clarinet now. lol

  • That's pretty cool. Do you own all these instruments in your videos?

  • I played with the trombone player on the far left in my school musical last year!!! Small world huh?

  • @hockeypaul92 2nd from the left actually

  • @hockeypaul92

The trombone players are, left to right:

Russell Freeland, Jim Long, Gary Kaback, and Joe Tiso (Bass bone, mostly invisible on this video). I guess you are talking about Jim Long, a great all around trombone player.

  • Super,thanks...

  • lol the guy at 0:26

  • @ashillabeige omggg me too! They think I ahold be playing the flute! I soo wanna get my hands on one of these it'll be so much fun!

  • People always think it's hilarious when I play baritone sax because I'm a rather small girl, and now I really want to learn to master the contrabass, so that the audience can piss themselves laughing for the whole set while I rock that out.

Only a master could switch between those two without sounding like garbage. I usually only have to switch between alto/tenor/bari and that gets to me bad on an off day. Kudos.

  • @AshillaBeige OMG! ME TOO! I actually want the sub-contrabass sax! IT'S BEEN MADE!!!!!

  • @AshillaBeige Funny enough, the last bari sax player for my high school jazz band was a rather small girl as well. She graduated, though, so now we're making due with a small English freshman. Ah well.

    Still a drummer! :P

  • @AshillaBeige actually not knock him like he's not a good dude but it get easier the longer you play. I switched from alto to tenor to bari one day in concert band during marches as ajoke.

  • Dear god, I hate switching between alto and tenor. That's something.

  • @iPodiNsanity thats why i keep it all in the same key ;) alto/bari man alto/bari. aalllll daayyyy looonnnggg. lol

  • @jon96ify It's not even the keys, though I'm usually stuck in Bb. It hurt my embouchure when I started doubling.

  • @iPodiNsanity try switching from bari sax to soprano, bud. It's something.

  • @TheAlmightyBassist Oh I imagine. I think you misunderstood my comment. I was saying that I can barely do alto and tenor and it's incredible that he can do such a major change like that.

  • @iPodiNsanity Because Tenor is superior, right?

  • @smallgiraffe42 I prefer alto.

  • @iPodiNsanity more like switching from bari to soprano

  • @iPodiNsanity Try playing alto for half a year, playing Tenor for 2 and a half years, playing Bari for two years without touching a tenor, then Finally playing a Tenor

  • I must commend you sir, switching ambetures (spelling horrible) that quickly takes a lot of skill. It takes me awhile to get used to going from bari to tenor, but from contrabass to soprillo... It's incredible.

  • who in the world would ever dislike this vid. there probaly just jellous

  • Dang!!!!!And i thought a baritone sax was big,you HAVE to stand up to play this 1!

  • 12 people got eaten by the tubax and beatned up by the soprillo

  • you are amazing!! About how much is a soprillo by the way, cuz id really like to get one?

  • you are absolutely amazing!!! About how much is a Soprillo exactly?

  • Geez that guy must have amazing control over his embouchure to go back and forth between the smallest sax mouthpiece and the biggest in one piece... that alone is pretty amazing.

  • Id take a tuba over a tubax any day.

  • a no mames ese don toka bien mamalon

  • i'd love to hear some overtones and crazy altissimo on both tubax and soprillo

  • I know I played this tune in jazz band. Man I can't remember the title. It keeps slipping my tongue.

  • @bkgangstapianist

Daylie's Double, composed and arranged by Oliver Nelson

  • @saxtek

    I knew it sounded familiar

I recognized my piano lick right at the top

    great post

  • Well I'm impressed! Go on with your bad shelf (the one next to the book shelf).

  • Old man drags. Can't read his tone on the tubax man.

  • I love this little solo-y thing-y and i applaud him for playing two not common saxophones but the man has puffy cheeks while he plays the tubax...

  • @amy12594 lets see you play that tubax and not puff your cheeks out =P no mean-ness intended.

  • @CW1223RAM sounds like a challenge!! which i would accept if i could ever find a tubax.... i tried to convince my band director to get one and he said no....

  • @amy12594 awh sad! we only have like 35 people in my band so if I asked my band director she'd be like 'get more people first!' Tubaxes are like a bazillion dollars.

  • @CW1223RAM that sucks! we have around 80 people. do u play sax then?

  • @amy12594 Yeah I was accepted into our region band as second chair tenor haha but I've only been playing for like a year. I was on clarinet for a year before that =P I love it though.

  • @CW1223RAM Thats cool. I played clarinet for half a year then i switched to tenor for a while and now i play bari which is my favorite by far!

  • is tubax just a sub contrabass sax

    ?

  • @hotdiggitydogness

No. It's an Eb contrabass sax.

  • @saxtek @saxtek Actually it comes in both Eb contrabass and Bb subcontrabass. You can go to Eppelsheim's site and look up a bit of info on both.

  • @hotdiggitydogness no it is lower

  • @hotdiggitydogness "just"?

  • soprillo is an octave above....soprano...? right?

  • @venskus2009

Yes, you are correct. Soprillo is a full octave above the Bb soprano saxophone.

  • @saxtek IS THAT POSSIBLE?

  • @mikstr22 There's another octave range that's above soprillo... Forgot what it's called though. Sopranio or something like that. Look it up.

  • @jjuggaloparkour sopranino is between soprillo and soprano

  • @BrendaMarie69 Thank you. But yeah, there are octave ranges yet to be named, I'm sure. They're just too high to hear, and therefore useless to be named.

  • i wonder if i can play this on an alto?

  • IS that Albert Perera playing trumpet in the background?

  • that low voice is so beautiful, im a bari player, ive been lookin into a bass though

  • damn dude how can you go from such a low reed to one so small....your awesome

  • !! nise your a pro..becouse the diffrence between the mouthpieces is huge !!!

and you blow like ther were no diffrence !! nise

  • Where would I be able to get a good quality Soprillo? I have looked for one, but with little luck...

  • that's some unreal emboucure there, buddy!

  • Where's the art in this?

  • @SuperSax875 What the hell are you saying? Whether the art is simply exhibitionism of the two instruments, it is a wonderful and creative thing to do.

  • @deepislandboy Creative by taking a normal tune and moving it around by several octaves? It's a novelty. The instruments have real possibilities, but this isn't one of them.

  • he looks so into the music xD

  • where can i buy a soprillo

  • Where do you get these sax's at?

  • ha i play tenor and alto i love the switch

  • Esto suena genial. Saludos y muchas bendiciones desde Colombia Sur América.

  • It is Fantastic!!! Saludos de Colombia Sur America

  • dude what is his mouth made of? and here i thought going from bari to soprano is hard enough lol

  • awesome! what song is this you played?

  • I bet you have to have some pretty good lungs for that thing. ;)

  • small sax is better than no sax

  • defintly impressive....

  • It would have been epic if he would've used a Bb Tubax instead of the Eb Tubax.

  • I love the instrument transitions, lol. I play alto and bari sax.

  • Love the instrument transition, lol.

  • AND I would feel foulish if I played the soprillo...not saying you're not good, I mean you are, but it looks weird :D

  • I play Tenor Sax. I saw an article on the Tubax while researching my instrument so I had to come and see one for myself. You're very good.

  • could you tell me where to find this song online, seeing as i cant find it anywhere on youtube?

  • @mmkaykats i had to buy it off itunes. was worth it to hear the original

  • I think i'll just stick to my alto....

  • I want a Tubax now.

  • I think I saw a high C (C three), but no palm-key action on the soprillo. I can only get up to the first B above staff reliably myself.

  • @Gandalfe Good eyes. I have trouble with notes above high C myself.

  • That's a real toe-tapper. Too bad it isn't in better sound quality. :-/

  • Death to embouchure!

  • AUDIO IS SOOO COMPRESSED!

    Way cool though.

  • may i ask ,where can i get this sheet music?

  • hello i play the tenor sax and i was wondering if i could have some notes to this?

  • wow thats like a culture shock to to the embouchure!!!

  • I so want a Tubax. My bari just doesnt seem to cut it on some songs. The contrabass is a monstrosity, and the tubax is basically a contrabass folded up, so yeah. I want an Eppelsheim Tubax. Where can I get one??

  • wasn't the saxophone solo part origionally written for tenor sax?

If it was, i prefer the Tubax and Soprillo variation on the sax solo.

  • Sure I'm not the first, but.... "Now play them at the same time!" Haha crazy talents man, sounds amazing

  • you are awesome!!!

  • It's crazy how easy the switch from tubax to soprillo is for him, I would NEVER be able to do that...

  • 0:28 look at the trombonistt

  • how did this guy switch from tubax to soprillo and back so easily??

  • @imabadmoon he has some major chops! lol

  • i love this song it never gets old

  • man yur pretty good from tubax to saprillo that takes alot. man i think imgonna play this song next year

  • That's cool :D

  • I wouldnt of thought this would work, but it really does, It sounds great, well done

  • He's crazy to do such an extreme swap in instrument!

  • what is that thing too heavy to hold???? whats up with the stand for the INSTRUMENT???

  • Dude you look like your having so much fun playing one of the largest to one of the smallest saxophones!

  • wow. most ppl when they play solos stand up. but i can see why u wouldnt. how much did the saxes cost.

  • What song is this

  • @2155955

    Daylie's Double by Oliver Nelson

  • Ya! Playing one of the biggest and smallest saxophones in the world!!!

  • This guy has an amazing embouchure capability!

  • Damn

  • @DMANGUY14 likewise 0_o

  • Where do you buy a contra bass sax?

  • @AustinTyWeir Ebay!!! =)

  • what song is he playing

  • randy emerick looks a lot like steven king!!!

  • you can stuff a couple sopranos, ninos and soprrillo saxes in that thing

  • Comedic contrast maximum...really good however.

  • I love switching between instruments! I switch between the Bb trumpet the Tenor Trombone and the Bb Baritone Horn :) I know how to play other instruments like the Flugelhorn and the French Horn which I love

  • I have enought trouble playing a trumpet, thank you.Good for you though.Maynard played one hell of a valve bone.

  • The Soprillo is my definite favorite, the tubax is just way too big c:

  • look at a contrabass sax if you think a tubas is too big

  • Trust me, I've seen many :P

  • To get this good at both extremes of the range... He must truly be a musician to the bone.

  • Yeah, it's like playing a contrabass tuba, then picking up a piccolo trumpet and sounding amazing at both.

  • no dude I mean i'm not saying its not really impressive to play with bass sax & then switch to soprillo but with cotrabass tuba & piccolo trumpet its ALOT harder

  • @MRsounddude you're full of shit you dumbass

  • Is there any other differences between a tubax and contrabass sax, besides size, shape and bore? They are both and octave below bari... but is there something else different with their tone or playing? Great playing!

  • @kingofnature1 yes i beleve with spechal octive keys on a tubax it has the ability to play contra all the way up to mid alto range

  • I have played 5 saxes. the soprano, alto, tenor, bari, and bass. It is hard for me to go from soprano to bass... i cant imagine how hard the ombesure switch is here
