Wow, This is my bedroom at the Univ of Pittsburgh. Top floor single room; bathrooms in the central area; I lived in this room for 2 straight years in 1982-and 1983. I am 50 years old now. The room has been remodeled obviously. My old room had a bed on the left side, under a black wall telephone, a desk next the window, behind the desk was a sink, linoleum floors; Schenley Hall; A girl student was murdered in the washer/dryer room Basement over Thanksgiving 1982; security was increased too late.
This is one of the very finest motion pictures ever made. The tension as the moment for the "parting of the curtains" nears is almost unbearable. I liken it to Bunuel's technique in "Un Chien d"Andalou". The cinematography, editing, and soundtrack are all revolutionary. The image of the bed near the end evokes the "mimesis" of German Expressionism, sublimated through a McLuhanesque lens of pre-postmodern structuralism. Brilliant.
@smatal Because Pitt is in the middle of a city and VERY close to a bad neighborhood, there have been many security risks including break-ins, violence and theft, Each dorm is manned by a guard. The key is an ID that can only be used by the owner (anyone caught with an ID that is not theirs has the id taken off of them).
@MorriganGarron It is swiped at the secuity desk where it tells the guard whether or not u live there, the guard opens the secuity doors (if u live in the building) which have an automatic lock. The id works with a 4-digit pin to unlock ur door.
This may be a really random question, but is it possible to make these beds taller to put stuff under the beds? I'll have a double in tower a in the fall and I thought it'd be easier to put the fridge and some of my stuff under the bed so we'd have more room without bunking the beds.
Yes this is possible. If you pause at 4:03, you can see the far bed posts have slots in them. Just take the matress and board off the bed, raise the rails to the level you want, and put the board back on. These can be tricky to unhook but I'm sure you'll get it. As you can see you can put it as high as those posts. To give you an idea, the dresser at 2:00 that the TV is on could probably fit under it.
@Runnerguy2489 he doesnt have to ask permission if he's commenting on your video, theres a video of brett explaining the whole, "permission vs. no permission" thing on current somewhere
how would you say that having a single dorm impacts your social life? could i have some pros and cons because i'm considering doing it next year because i don't want to have to work around someone else's schedule and i don't want to run the risk of any of my things being stolen. so if you could help me out i'd be very grateful :-)
Pros - Obviously you have more private, quiet time. You can go to bed at whatever hours you want and not have to worry about waking someone up. Do homework when you want.
As for social life, I'm pretty quiet and reserved but it really wouldn't be hard to get involved in a lot of floor activites. There's always stuff going on. I don't know if you are considering Pitt or a different campus so I'm guessing there may be less things in a rural area but I'm sure there would always be activites.
N64 is still awesome just because it's like 13 years old doesn't mean people don't still play it. Plus that TV is better than having no TV at all you dumbass
Lemme just say a thirteen-year-old N64 that's been through thick and thin, over the sea in a hurricane cooped up in a salty v-bunk, probably begins to lose its reliability... That it's still functioning is beyond me, but lately, whenever I try to play Zelda, the system craps out on me and spits a crapload of garbage onto the screen. It's rather upsetting. :/
My NES still works (somewhat, I have trouble with changing games sometimes) and it's over 15 years old now. That sucks that it doesn't work for you. :(
Oh man... my NES? It was so old, and so broken, we had to stick three markers into the slot to keep the game from falling out. I bought and tried to play Final Fantasy but it did this, like, continuous restarting like it did every time I tried to play any game on the poor thing. We had to throw it out once it ceased to function... *sheds a tear*
Yes, actually, most people in the Tower system have roommates (Towers A and B have nothing but doubles...Tower C is the one with singles). When we selected our top choices last year my first choice was a single. I usually don't get along with too many people so I wanted a place for myself.
30 people per floor in the Towers, 27 if it's a floor with a lounge. I don't know what the other dorms are like.
Bathrooms: I have never had to wait for a shower...and our floor has the WORST possible cleaning time. 7:45am-8:45am. Most floors clean around noon or in the evening. Everyone is on different schedules so it's not really a factor.
As for the gym, I don't use it, but I would guess sometime in the early afternoon or late at night.
Pause it at 3:47. Up in front of the bed there is a lot of space...I just rotate the TV and play there. There's a good bit of room to swing there...although I don't need a ton of room to be swinging anyway.
that chair thing on your bed...that's exactly what I need. Cause the layout of my room doesnt allow me to sit on a chair when i play games.:/ So i usually get extreme back pain. :p
It's a good half a foot from falling I think. I do rotate the TV and use the empty space by my backpack if I'm playing the Wii and that moves it a little but it's pretty secure there.
I need to keep it close while I play so I can reset hundreds of times without getting up. haha.
What?!? I want a single....my school makes us share the room

There's a communal bathroom per floor in towers, which is where most freshman end up. But the Sutherlands maybe...

lol, that's pretty funny that it was used.
Although the part about me having a single and therefore no one to ward off thieves doesn't make much sense.
Ya, other than the fact that at the beginning of the video I have a swipe card AND a combination. :p
The only thing that pisses me off is I was not asked permission and he is a youtube partner who is making money off of it.
And it's kind of creepy that 10K people have watched this and only 1K on average for my Zelda vids. :/
