  • Very groovy cover. Love pomplamoose!

  • cant stop listening to it!

  • this is just beautiful! <3

  • C'est la plus belle interpretation de cette chanson.....

  • The piano accompaniment was excellent. It was important to keep a low profile and show restraint. Well done.

  • Nice rendition!

  • Could you show the chords of the BASS ? :) thanks a lot

  • Beautiful interpretation, excellent phrasing, voice. It's cool she plays bass. It's nearly impossible to take your eyes off her.

  • This is beautiful. You have a very unique voice. Remind me of Bjork.

  • That was AWESOME! Creative interpretation with it's own unique haunt.

  • February 18, 2012!!!It's a future. today is 10 january 2012. It's next month!!! :-)

  • I just realized, Jack plucks some of the piano's strings at one point during the song :)

  • @larsbaumgarten ist ja gut, ich finds auch schön

  • why is that man starring at her like that ?! creepy.

Crazy nice song! love her voice

  • @Piratkaptajn1 One, I would say in order to keep time. She is leading the rhythm of the song. Two, I would do the exact same for I am in love with her and would not be able to help myself. And I don't even know her. Imagine how he feels.

  • Enjoyed your version, thank you. Nice Martin.

  • In my opinion, this song is all about the emotion. Her voice may seem blank, but listen to how the music plays, and how she stresses the words. To me, this is the happy version of the song. The focus is first on her love of the boy. Then its on her requited love. Simple, but to the point. In this version, he doesn't pass away. She isn't left with the pain of loss, or being only left with his words. She loves, and is loved in return. Her face is blank, but her words are powerful.

  • @artesque That's a fine reading, but it is only *this* song that is "wistful" like her voice. The other songs are angry or happy or sad, but she renders them *all* in exactly the same delivery as this. So to me it seems like a "one trick pony". It's a really pretty trick, but it gets (to me) boring very quickly. I just wish that the "new cool" wasn't "try to sing everything as understated as possible". Listen to "The XX". Different music..same vocal approach. Where is the "wow"?

  • @tychonaut

Beat It - Listen how she's pleeing with the boy to just run away. She's afraid.

Single Ladies - Apathy, amusement of the situation.

    September - Playful, happy, fun

I don't want to miss a thing - Delicate, holding the notes as if she might drop them

Telephone - Apologetic in some part, irritated in others, distracted at other times.

It's so good. Maybe it's something about the sincerity in her voice. Try listening to it without watching her.

  • @artesque You described her voice perfectly. Apathetic, delicate, distracted. Look.. I don't want to dis her. It's just.. if everyone is doing *bedroom and bagel* covers of classic amazing songs.. and then everyone says "ZOMG! sweeter than the original!" then everyone will aspire to bedroom and bagel level and less people will aspire to the amazingness that created the song in the first place. Reflections of reflections / data lost in compression.. That's my position. Yours may vary.

  • @tychonaut She doesn't plee in every song. She isn't playful in every song. She doesn't hold notes with a sort of trembling as if she might accidently drop it in every song. The way she sings really expresses the feeling/mood of the song. And the simple way she does it is indeed ZOMG, how did she do that? She isn't trying to reproduce Nat King Cole. It isn't a reflection, but rather a transformation. And though things were lost, things were also added. Look at the song Mad World.

  • @artesque

    Well said.

Music is a means of expressing yourself in your own unique way.

Some people will like it, some people won't, but that's their baggage.

Personally, of all the modern takes on this track I've heard on youtube..This one is my favourite. But hey..that's me :)

  • most beautiful voice I've ever heard.

  • This song/cover is AMAZING!!

  • guys this is one of my favorite song. fist time i heard it in "moulin rouge" a great movie, by the way . However you played like pomplamoose style, that givea very unique sound

  • I'm not really sure I understand this song yet I still love it. I had never even heard it until Casey sang it last year on American Idol.

  • Great job. great style, great rendition.

  • This is great!

  • Wow, that song is Nat King Cole? The original is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created.

  • her and casey abrams singing would probably create a worm whole which would send us back to the 50 s

and jesus would be chilini in the club with us

  • @Lemon3Picker IM SAYING! Dear gawd they needa work together

  • -3 *+

  • -3

  • Cannot get enough of this cover. It just exudes cool.

  • better than george benson or nat king cole !

  • You two got the magic.

  • Natalie & Jack! Respect frob Siberia!

  • i love this song and it makes me happy... then i get sad cuz i remember this was the last video i watched on my ipad before it was stolen :(.... but then i restart the song and i i forget and it makes me happy again :)

  • does anyone knows if those mics they're using are samson g track???

  • @danielsan05 they list the gear they use on their website, pomplamoose[dot]com/gear

  • @BrighamHB thnx for answer me, but I already see it, is a neumann mic..

  • why are some beautiful songs too short? -_-

  • @salvadoroars back in the day, the length of songs were normally 1-2 minutes long.

  • Great cover!!!

  • Moulin Rouge!

  • @stankykey Eden Ahbez (born George Alexander Aberle) and Nat King Cole! :)

  • Much charm it is. :/

  • Ya.. everyone will hate me.. but I'm philosophically against this stuff. Take classic songs and then redo them in the ol "I just got out of bed" voice. It's been done before (coughnouvellevaguecough). What really gets me is it is kind of anti - "being good". Her vox are always *exactly* the same regardless of text or spirit of the song. Is that not a *bad* thing? Meanwhile .. people who really try are put in the diva/wanker/pop-Idol category. I guess I just miss that - good singing.

  • @getkristan hater.

  • @zakdwyer Meh. I call it "saying what I think" and thats not always *AWESOME/OMG!*

I do think you have a lot of bands that do simple version of old hits. But not so much the other way, right? Kind of a one-way process, you know? Complex > Simple. Kind of indicative of modern music,no?. I'm not even so old, but it's pretty plain to see it used to be more "rich/colorful". Give me back musicians that want to *wow* you, instead of musicians that want to make you have tea with them.

  • @tychonaut You obviously haven't seen their other videos; their songs are usually very intricate and Jack Conte is a multi-talented instrumentalist and producer. This is just one of their slower, softer songs, and quite frankly, I would rather them do it this way than overcomplicate it (which is what would happen, regardless of how they did it, IMO). It's not "OMG AWESOME", but since Nataly Dawn has such a great voice, it doesn't matter what they sing - it's all good to my ears.

  • @zakdwyer Nobody agrees with me on this and that's fine :) I just see a lot of bands doing this *thing*. Take an old song played by stellar musicians with fire and passion and redo it so that it can be played by intermediate musicians in an "ironic/sloppy/dont take ourselves serious" way. It's fine once in a while, but it has just become this *huge* bandwagon, and I think it "lowers the bar" a bit. *This* becomes the level to aspire to rather than, say, Nat King Cole or Earth Wind and Fire.

  • @tychonaut It's called a cover. It's an homage. And it isn't ironic/sloppy/don't take ourselves serious, not always anyways. This one isn't. It is very beautiful and well done. If you think this is intermediate, fine, you don't get it. Is this what people aspire to be like? Yes. But in a step to something greater. People and their need to obsess over the past and say, "it's not as good, so it's blasphemous". Just shut up.

  • @artesque Hey.. don't be rude. I'm not. I have an opinion, you know? And thats.. like.. *allowed*, right? I know what a cover is, thx. This is exactly the same thing Nouvelle Vague did about a decade ago. To me it's like punk bands taking classic songs and playing them in a simple "punk" style. Or euroTechno versions of classic 80s tunes. Take something complex and simplify it. Its fine once in a while.. but this has become a huge trend. Meanwhile where are the new Nat K Coles or EWFs?

  • @tychonaut Sorry. Your words just really upset me. You are allowed to have your opinions. My personal opinion is that the best version of this song is done by Cher. It is very "simple", but makes up for it in a complexity I just don't get from Nat King Cole. The emotion in the voice is completely different. Where as the composition as a whole is very well done, it's not as moving as a piano and a heart felt voice. This version leans more on the heart felt version. It's the emotion.

  • @artesque Check out Lizz Wright's version. It's my fave. And I find it interesting that you like the emotion in her voice because I think she has a really pretty voice.. but very "blank". I mean.. that's her style (IMO). She will sing an angry song, a sad song, a romantic song, a funny song.. all with the same delivery. Look at Beat It vs My Favorite Things vs Aint No Sunshine. *All different mood/lyrics, but all the same delivery*. Is she happy? Sad? Its the same approach to each song.

  • @tychonaut Is this a happy, sad, angry, romantic, or funny song? Cher sang it as if she lost someone dear to her, the focuse being on the boy. David Bowie sang it as if he learned something to live his life by, the focus on the boy's words. Nat King Cole sings it as if he's telling you a proverb, the focus on the entire story. Liz Wright might as well have been singing in Latin, no disrespect, but the focus seemed to be more on her talents as a singer.

  • @tychonaut As for the new Nat King Cole, well that's just it, the world doesn't work like that. Where was the Nat King Cole before him? The world, including music, is progressive. Maybe not always better, but always changing. Music today isn't the music of yesterday. The "trend" is to express and/or entertain. It's art. It's supposed to evoke a response. As said, you're allowed your opinion. But I just don't think you get it.

  • nataly will always be my biggest crush -3 when I was dating my ex, she'd actually get viciously jealous, because I'd talk about nataly soooo much -3

  • Agree with the person below. That Martin bass miced up is loooovely. I want.

  • This is by far, my favorite pomplamoose song so far!!!

  • Others have already pointed this out in their posts here in the past... but i just wanna point it out again... i LOVE the way jack looks at nataly!! and i love that at 1:15 when she sings "and be loved in return" she looks at jack :) (sigh) and it's all so natural. it's these "little things" (another pompla song worth checking out) that made me fall in love with pomplamoose!

  • I like the change you made to the lyric (at least as Nat King Cole did it): you dropped the "and"

    ...is just to love

    [and] Be loved in return

it's better without that 'and'. Good call.

  • @thrillscience she says it, just softly. you can hear the noteee

  • perfect

  • Captivating! My goodness I am in love with your music!!!

  • really love this cover. just curious that you tribute it to nat king cole though, since he didnt write it.

  • Breathtaking.

  • girl, you got the voice of an angel, you are such a talented and beautiful person, and jack is another monster of music that i've discovered. i'm from Brazil, and i'm just glad that i've found such artists, the sound of yours make me go to a distant place, very beautiful and enchanted place, thank you. kisses to u and a hug to jack, from your newest and distant fan ^^.

  • Amazing, as always.

  • This is the kinda thing Zoe DeChanelle could be doing.. ;-

  • only the best

  • beautiful ...☸ڿڰۣ

  • classy :)

  • love it !

  • I was so enchanted by this I took "Download this Cover on iTunes" as a command and did it right away.

  • ...is just to love...and be loved in return...

  • Beautiful. Truly Stellar. The dischordant tones at the end are just awesome. And the feeling of the words really gets you.

  • the mv is very, simply but beautiful, what equipment they use to made the mv?

  • You two are phenomenal!! How about coming to the east coast and doing a show? Lynchburg, Charlottesville, Virginia?!?!!

  • hi .. i want a link to download this song ! same this virgn

  • this is probably the sexiest song on earth

  • Great recording and a great rendition. I was afraid it was lacking some of the fun antics of Pomplamoose - suffice to say I didn't really see any bizarre combinations of instruments. And then Jack started plucking at the piano strings with his fingers (about 1:30). That blew me away. And here I was wondering why the piano didn't have a cover all that time. Fantastic.

  • still my favorite cover of yours

  • Makes me want to turn on my blue light.

  • I think i can never stop seeing your videos. i was about to go to bed when i found your channel and here i am 4 am with my jaw dropped and writting.

  • you guys should check out stephane grappelli's nature boy, interesting...after hearing your rendition i don't feel like punching birds today! thank you!

  • One of the BEST artist(s) around ! Brilliant and ORIGINAL production !!!

American Idol...... Please take note ... this is making music.

    Soooo cool. thanks guys

  • One of the best songs ever. Very original interpretation. Some people may say: destroyed by you. But I like it:)

  • Sadly, I first heard this song in the movie "Angel Eyes," and had no clue that there were lyrics. What a great introduction to the full song this is. You guys are sweet!

  • you sound great! try summertime...

  • STOP LABELING YOUR SONG AS IF IT IS BY THE ORIGINAL ARTIST.

"To counterfeit means to illegally imitate something. Counterfeit products are often produced with the intent to take advantage of the superior value of the imitated product. The word counterfeit frequently describes both the forgeries of currency and documents, as well as the imitations of works of art...."

  • @chesterbesterfeild

HAHAHA I actually found them by looking up something else, and they popped up... good point brother good point... I will however say i'm glad I found them through this slight "Counterfeit" so... you both have valid arguments haha.

  • @chesterbesterfeild I don't think you understand how a cover works.

  • I wish I was cool enough to play acoustic bass guitar

  • @neurocelso

a little. :) my dad tunes and rebuilds pianos. so I'm always curious about that stuff.

  • you're both great! cool videos. Wich video camera are you using here?

  • wow.... where did you get the idea to but a latin twist on this tune??? genius.

  • how cau u dislike this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you guys should get on sound cloud

  • I am 60, been listening to music all my life and have tried to keep up with the times. I usually find it difficult to find anything distinctive to latch on to in the voices of young singers. To say you are an exception is an understatement. I want to write an open love letter to your voice like Jim Carrey wrote to Emma Stone. Bless you child, you are a truly gifted singer.

  • @mefkin Nice, wish you the very best and happy in life :)

  • @mefkin i'm french , 63 ,, i agree

  • He's got a thing for you.

  • Damnit I came here for primus, but instead I got an amazing singer. FUCK.

  • I just discovered you guys today. Have spent almost an hour and a half watching videos :)

  • @chickendancelex thats nothing - i been here for 2 months ... can't seem to find a way out !

is there really life out there, or did i just imagine it ? ........ oh well just 1 more ....

  • COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've the chills from this. ;D And she is the most beautiful thing.

  • I love Pomplamoose

  • Please come to Rochester NY

  • you are sickly talented! we love how you redefine music. SO talented!

  • Yeah! Music's fun!!!!

  • One of the best versions of this tune; and I was getting so sick of it....and here it's reinvented in a great new version.

    Love this duo...brilliant.

  • 156 people would not know good music if it set their ass on fire then pissed on their head.

  • @simont7 i dunno, if good music did that to me, i wouldnt be very appreciative of it either. thankfully, pomplamoose has yet to do that to me. ;3

  • @simont7

And where is the logic in that? I wonder. (Apart from the silly grammar, that is)

  • @simont7 - i'm sure those are the ones that call hip hop, MUSIC.

  • I could listen to them forever..

  • Remarkable! This is genuinely the best cover of Nature Boy I've ever heard:D

  • B E A U T I F U L voice <3

  • While Nat King Cole performed this, it was written by Eden Ahbez.

  • Can you guys please do a cover of MUSE and The Arcade Fire??? pleeeeeeeease... I LVOE YOUR COVERS!!! you two are AMAZING!!!

  • Reminds me of massive attack....

  • This gets me every time...love it! Thank you!!!!

  • БРАВО!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cool cover. If you like one, then also try this song by Hot Club of San Francisco

  • how you make that dissonance work i will never know

  • @sincision i absolutely love it. true talent right here.

  • thumbs up if this song is going to you favorites list!

  • That voice is..... OMG!

  • amazing! thanks so much you guys. don't let de eternal songs! did you already sung MPB songs?

    Amor!

  • rainymood.

  • Guys, I love this. So simple and perfect!

  • I'm completely addicted to this music.

  • You're beautiful! And your voice is to die for. You two are extremely talented.

  • Elation.

  • Oh man!!! I watch this like 4 times a day and it never gets old! I liked the original but this is much smoother. Thank you pomplamoose!

  • Fantastic

  • This is how this song is meant to be done. I checked out the Kurt Elling cover in Sydney, and his talent is without doubt. But all the runs and digressions away from this beautifully simple and haunting melody only distract from the song's greatest strength. There is power in the simplicity.

  • Really awesome version! :-)

  • the song is already great...the cover was will made...yet this chick makes it even ten times better...where does she come from?!!

  • you're a cool cat....

    yeah...

    cool..

    cat..

    *flipping coins

  • This song is a little bit... "xtraordinary"...

  • @BattleMaster1013

ahaaa, i see what you did there . . .

  • simply enchanting! so simple and magical! fantastically done!

  • You two have a style that I have to compliment. It hits me personally with what I like to play. If you need any smooth and mellow low brass players. Im up for the challenge. :D Just a little offer. haha

  • it's not nat king cole! it's eden ahbez! please change this since he is the real creator of this all time classic standard...

  • @laertesdd She may know that it isn't written by NKC, but as he popularized the song, it may generate more hits on YouTube. She could credit E. A. in the subtext, though. Eden was friends with my grandparents between '41-'45. He came to their house and played strands of this song as he was composing it. He also had a big ol' crush on my Aunt, who tells me that this song is autobiographical: He was definitely "Strange and Enchanted". :)

  • @Fi3ryPh03n1x

actually they DO credit him in the song description. your argument concerning the higher number of clicks for mentioning nat king cole is convincing. yet, it is sad, since this masterwork of a genius, this jewel of a song has to be attributed to its creator and only to him!

amazing thing that your family knew ahbez personally...

  • This cover was stuck in my head for the last two days and I can't stop replaying it in my head!! Great job pomplamoose!! x)

  • A brilliant arrangement and interpretation of the song.

  • One of the greatest songs ever written. This is an excellent version of the song. This should become a hit - just as it is - no alterations.

  • it's a very special thing for one version of a song to single handedly cause a certain song to become one's favorite. That is what this version has done for me. Nature Boy is now my favorite song in the world - ever - and it's because of this version. It's haunting, it's sparse, it's "tasty." In a word, it's perfect. I really hope Nataly and Jack read this comment so they can feel the appreciating I am sending their way. Thank you for this. You have given me a gift.

  • That just floats my boat. Beautiful.

  • This is great! Check out Natali Castillo ' s Channel and music ! You will love it! =) She's a new singer songwriter =) Folk style

  • oh my gosh!! im so excited she did this one, i already liked her but i didnt know she had this im seriously gushing!! sorry guys i love jazz and she just has such a variety

  • amazing. I love Pomplamoose!!! Mmmh... bass acoustic.

  • Wow. Words won't really come to me right now. Just... wow.

  • "It's beyond me how this has less views than your other songs", said

  • Raped the Play button!!!!!

  • Love this son. Love you guys.

  • I am not a fan of new amateur acts posted on Youtube, but you guys are really something else. Completely. There is joy in your playing, there is musicianship in your performance, there is art in what you do, even if it is the corniest of songs. No, I won't be buying your CDs because I am not in the habit of buying anyone's music (I simply download it! I know... I know...)- just being honest. But you do blow me away!

  • @NYCBG At the end of the video it says you can download this song for free from their myspace page, so you're in luck! No purchase necessary.

  • @NYCBG Wow, you are such a supporter of the arts.

  • @NYCBG corny song? what's wrong with nature boy? i love it

  • @tnayrbebok24 Where did you see me calling THIS song "corny"? Rather, I was trying to make a general point about Pomplamoose.

  • @NYCBG In the context of your critique, I took it the same way. I felt you were talking about Nature Boy with your "Corny" comment, too.
