@briggs9187 Sadly, it does. I've needed EXTENSIVE and COMPLICATED dental work and the dentists and oral surgeons are very glib and trite and say very casually, "Oh, well just take a 2nd out on your house, that'll cover it." (I'm a renter) Also, "Oh, well just borrow some $ from your family." (Yeah, all the relatives carry $30 thousand in pocket change & don't have their own families to tend to?) What do these dentists THINK, tossing out "Thats $10000 for today, will that be cash or check?
@Merrida100 I kind of did not understood your sarcasm, just kidding, but in the end it is all about how much can you afford to pay or go into debt even with dental and medical insurance. I take care of my teeth, I am thirty and only have three fillings all my life, all my teeth are there and I am a homeowner. Sad that today we think our health is measured on how much we can pay to not die, and if we can pay we live, in poverty.
@briggs9187 Most of my relatives have dentures, and had them earlier than "most." Those who say there's no genetic component are probably those who have great tooth structure/family history. Losing your teeth, especially let's say if it starts from a car accident followed with dental work and a job loss and suddenly, "The Plan" can't happen. My husband & family all have their teeth, perfect. My family, not so much. And it affects being ABLE to get that job to pay for those implants. Bad order.
@nikita22f I did that. I no longer drive the flashy red sports car I had, I no longer shop in boutiques, if I shop at all. I don't do vacations or dinners in restaurants or take classes or join clubs. I now drive a 5 year old Hyundai 4 door. I've sacrificed a lot in terms of material stuff, money I earned and money I saved, used the tiny bit insurance helps, it is NOT much,...I've made the my priority. And just a few years later I'm still facing full dentures. I did give it my all...
@Merrida100 The thing that really gets me is the fact that if i would have done anything such as not taking care of my teeth i could have blamed myself for having bad teeth but you do everything in your power and look worse than the homeless person on the street. Health insurance doesn´t even pay 5% of the actual costs.
@Merrida100 I used to have great teeth and thought oh well people that don´t have good teeth didn´t take care of themselves. Oh boy did i learn a lesson. My teeth literally started to fall out during my two pregnancies. Yes, i did take my vitamins and did everything i was supposed to do and the end of the story is dental work that will cost me about $ 30 000. I don´t even want to talk about the psychological effects this has had on me.
true, teeth over a car, but does the cost have to be comparable?

Many things we buy cost a lot of money, but honestly, i would rather shine with my teeth that with a new car.
