hey man! i just played 5 and i loved it, it was the first resident evil game i ever played though so i cant compare it to others, but if you like the first one than you might actually wanna check out some of the dlc for 5 because it actually takes place in the mansion, i know you said that you didnt wanna get the dlc but i just wanted to let you know because it is like a completely different game :)
Resident evil is my most favorite video game series of all time! I just love it. I do miss the old style too though. It isn't as much SURVIVAL horror as it once was. I always liked having to figure out if I should kill this zombie or save ammo for a boss that could be just around the corner. Just about everything was expendable so you had to know when was the best time to use it. I liked the strategy of it. Though I still love RE4 and 5, the original REs will always be my favorites.

I wish they would bring back the old style of Resident Evil, but I can't see it coming back since alot of people had a issue with the camera angle. It seems that the new Resident Evil game will have the same camera like 4 and 5, but thank god they're bring back the dead lol. I will say this RE 4 was a breath of fresh air with a new type of camera angle, inventory system, story and gameplay. However, RE5 just didn't cut it and nothing in the game could give me chills.
A good analysis of the series, I too enjoyed the style of RE 1-3 more, I am not to fond fo the over the shoulder camera system from RE4, It was the static camera angles which made the suspense of old RE games & the music. Still, RE4 overall was an enjoyable game.
As for RE5, it just didn't feel like a horror game, just a grizzly action game, RE6 seems more darker, I am looking forward to Leons sections more as Chris' seem more action based. afterseeinf the new treailer RE6's a 2012 essential.
If u havent yet u should also try playing resident evil outbreak/outbreak 2, besides the long loading screens they are pretty good. Also if you like you can check out RE survivor or RE dead aim, I personally think those are not very good.
I still remember loving every min of RE 1 the big box version and DC version. Iv been a fan ever since. Also REmake is still the pinical of the francise.

I have resident evil 1 on saturn, remake, zero, and resident evil 2 and 4 on gamecube, resident evil 3 and code veronica on dreamcast, resident evil 4 wii edition. resident evil 5 ps3. My favorites are resident evil 1, code veronica (on dreamcast), and resident evil 4 wii edition. But still all games are fun and very enjoyable. Did not like the movies. Good topic!!!
I don't have a great deal of game play on the RE series but I remember the first one frightening me though! lol. as a matter of fact My cousin and her friends from here building would get together and play video games and this one night her friend Patrice, a big 250 lb dude from dowstairs came up to play, long story short he was on the first chapter of RE where you walk through the breezeway (Where the dogs jump out) ...yo! that man screamed like a girl and ran out of the apartment! LMBO!

That game used to have me going! I felt watching the game play of both was cinematic and as enjoyable as the game play. @Piznos people may have been offended that the zombies being killed were Black? In gerneral though, most games except for San Andreas, the main character is white and if there is a Black they usually meet a brutal demise, especially in hollywood movies. Again if you are a White director you are more likely to have a White lead, but there definitely is a trend of "wiping out" Blacks in movies. Just my perspective, I speak my mind, your still that dude!....yet another great vid!

My friends brother would always play Zelda, Castlevania, and The Guardian Legend on the NES and it was like an everyday thing. I havent noticed the race thing in video games much although the things I have heard are kinda absurd and not very obvious BUT with movies I have kinda noticed it but not until i heard people mention it lol...Either way, the game just didnt do it for me from what i've played but now i need to play all the way thru it because i saw the trailer for RE 6 and it looks SICK!!!. Resident Evil wasn't just based on Sweet Home's setting, it was also based on the gameplay, minus the rpg elements. And originally there were only black enemies in RE5 and you only played as Chris but them some morons complained that it was racist so they added in other races of enemy and a black second character. Also Resident Evil Revelations for the 3DS is going to be a more classic style RE game. It won't have zombies but its going to play more like the classic RE games.

I'm really happy that zombies are back but it doesn't look like its going to be a survival horror game but instead a shooter. I'm still going to get it and most likely love it. You know what's weird about Code Veronica? Zombies don't come apart when you shoot them. No shooting off heads or shooting them in half. Boggles your mind why they removed that from the game.

Point out though when I was playing RE 1 no one was complaining about bad voice acting. I was just stunned people were actually talking with a CD quality voice!

I played Resident Evil 5 first and loved it, i just beat Resident Evil 4 a week ago and loved it even more lol. Now i'm thinking about playing the older ones i did play Resident evil 2 for like 20 mins lol back in the day but the controls put me off and i traded it in. I'm glad to have gotten a wii recently so i can play through the remake of the first one.
Excellent video Nick. I was always partial to RE2, as it was the first one I owned. My buddy owned RE1 and we played it at his house. I was acclimated to survival horror before Resident Evil with the Alone in the Dark series for the PC. That game was definitely ahead of its time and ran well on a IBM 286. But, in my humble opinion, RE4 is a top five game of all time, let alone Resident Evil. RE5 is absolute garbage. I played it until the first boss and turned it off for good. Good stuff!

after beating one. I remember seeing screenshots of 2 and being blown away by how many zombies was in one of the pictures. I beat 2 and 3 and liked all of them then I played 4 and really couldent getinto it and the same with Code Veronica. I would really like to play that Gamecube version you talked about of the original. So, to answer your question, I would like to see another RE game done more like the first 3 than the newer ones. I remember the first time I played Resident Evil, I was about 12 and saw it a blockbuster and I believe on the back of the cover it showed one of those big spiders and that was the only reason I picked it up. I got home and didnt have a memory card yet so I went and bought my first memory card the next day. The original is by far the most memorable resident evil of the series for me and my favorite, followed by Resident Evil 2. Like u I was really pumped for 2 to come out
When your parents were stingy about giving you money for games is called -good parenting. My parents were the same, at least it made you appreciate when you got a quality game. The original RE is the best imo.
Great video, man... Thinking about the first RE game on PSX and Saturn really takes you back. It looked so awesome in magazines before it was released. The people looked like real people, real-looking places, and it was just so different from the cartoonish stuff the industry had given gamers for 10 years prior.
My first PSX game was gonna be either RE or Return Fire. I went with Return Fire and I think I made the right choice. Played RE a year or so later. Not a lot of love for the series now
Great overview of the series. I'm with you. I'm waiting for that classic RE game to take me back to '96. RE:Revelations for the 3DS looks its going to be that.
The original RE and RE2 are my favorites with RE4 close behind. I didn't mind RE5 but I think they (meaning Capcom) really lost focus on what the series was originally about. I liked the co-op action, but like you said it just didn't feel like Resident Evil.
Hear! Hear! I'm all for classic RE gaming. I hate first person view- the third person original with all those blind-spots, slow-open-pausing doors, angles where all you could see is the zombies coming at you added to the suspense. The haunted mansion theme has been used many times (ie- Alone in the Dark), but it's perfect for RE. Keep the original, add new rooms, mb new characters/bosses/weaponry, but stay true to the story and music. And of course- throw in some of those non-sensical puzzles :)
First, it's awesome that's you're doing this.Like me- I loved RE 1- it was incredible when it first came out- those pre-rendered backgrounds and bad voice acting added to the charm. RE 2 was great but nothing beats the original. RE on the GameCube was outstanding- I really liked it too. Zero was ok but like you said- forgettable. I stopped playing after the over-the-shoulder view RE 4&5- just not the same.
Resident Evil is one of my favorite franchises, RE2 for me was the best in the series. I remember buying the gamecube just for the Remake, 0 & 4. But after playing all these games I have to say those tank controls started to get old and RE4 was a necessary step in the right direction if the series was to evolve and not become stale. But I have to agree that RE5 is the weakest game in the main series. I am looking forward to RE ORC. Anyway great video Nick keep up the great work !!!
First time i had ever even seen resident evil was when i was 12 and my friend who was older than me had it for PS 1. The begining intro movie to me was AWESOME!. i had never seen real live actors in a video game. but it was the first game i had ever seen that had that type of gameplay. i was used to side scrollers before that so Resident evil was different to me.

My favorite series hands down! I know it has changed since it roots but I still love it. Anything with Resident Evil in the title gets my money lol! Revelations looks great and I can't wait til the seventh. Took 3 days off to dedicate to it! Great vid!

Great vid and great story! I remember the first time I played RE 1. It was the first survival horror game I ever played and that experience was unforgettable. I loved cheesy B-movie horror movie live action cutscenes, and I was sad to see that they moved away from the live action cutscenes. I also loved RE2 but like you, I prefer RE 1. Sadly I haven't played any other RE game after 2. The next one I play might be RE 5 although Operation Raccoon City looks sweet!

@ballinnick1982 Yeah, I do plan on getting RE3. Back in the day, I had planned on getting it for PS1, but then they announced it for Dreamcast, so I wanted to get that version instead. However, my plan for getting the Dreamcast version kept getting pushed back, and so it's now 2012 and I still don't have RE 3 yet. LOL
I do have have RE4 on PS2, Code Veronica X on PS2, RE Zero on Gamecube, and RE5 on PS3.
Funny, I woke up this morning and felt like playing something I haven't played in a while and grabbed RE1 for Gamecube. I'm about 4 hours in at the moment, and then got on here and saw you posted this video. Crazy! Operation Raccoon City and Revelations on the horizon have had me thinking about the old RE games recently.
My first was RE1 way back in 1996. My best friend and I played it from start to finish. I controlled, he read the strategy guide. It was amazing.

People who think resi 5 is racist are dumb it's set in africa its been real. i killed millions of white people in games and no one cares. If i person thinks its ok to kill white and latino but not black then they racist. i finished resi 5 a bunch of times i did it over and over. the game is alot of fun i dont care if its not scary as long as i engoyed it.

Im ok with the Resi 4 gameplay style but I would prefer the series go back to the zombie infested raccoon city dark environment as opposed to the daylight african setting of resi 5.
I honestly couldn't see the series go back to the tank controls of the first set of games on the ps1. They worked for their time but gameplay has moved on significantly from then and going back to that style of play would hurt the game more than anything else in the eyes of modern gamers.

I really didn't care for 5 much either. Its a good game but it just doesn't have the RE vibe to it. As for what I'd like to see... I'd love to see Shinji Mikami direct a new Resident Evil. Unfortunately that will probably never happen unless Capcom is willing to hire him under contract. I have high hopes for Operation Racoon City and Revelations because they both look to be darker in tone. We'll have to wait and see how they turn out though.

I've played every RE game. It's hard to rank them. They're all very good. I understand why you didn't like RE 5, it does get a little darker later in the game though. It looks like they're going for more RE 5 type of games and maybe even more action than before with the new game about to be released later this year. Kind of sucks, but I'll buy it and hopefully it's good.
@04mzwach I will definately go back and finish RE5. Who knows, maybe i'll love the game later on. It does happen sometimes with games lol. And it really is hard to rank them because they all have ups and downs so I can definately agree with you on that!
I really loved the RE remake on GameCube. That was my first experience with the series. I got my copy used from Blockbuster and has to exchange the game 3 times in order to get a set of discs that worked. After that I got Resident Evil 2 & 3 as well on the Gamecube. I really wish they would have redone 2 and 3 with the same graphics engine as the 1st game on Gamecube. After that I got Resident Evil 0 for christmas and later on I got 4 when it was released. I owe the Gamecube for my RE history.
@hangia The remake if the first one was just amazing. And i was always hoping they would remake 2 and 3 for the gamecube with the same graphics. I was really dissapointed when they released tweo and 3 on the Gamecube with the original graphics but its cool to expand the series on different platforms too. Unfortanately those versions are kinda pricey
@OwtDaftUK Did you get Pier Solar? I ordered it AS SOON as I saw PeteDorrs video announcing it so i got a first printing of it. Its hard as hell to play though...You are right about the older REs and the newer ones being good in there own ways!

Im not really a fan of the resident evil games, my favorite RE game is Resident Evil 0 for the gamecube. I tried out the first RE on PSN cause it was $10 i tried playing it and could not figure out what to do. I got pretty far in it as Chris, but i got bored of it. Another good way to play RE on the go is the PS one Classic on PSN. Great Video Nick =)

@Piznos people may have been offended that the zombies being killed were Black? In gerneral though, most games except for San Andreas, the main character is white and if there is a Black they usually meet a brutal demise, especially in hollywood movies. Again if you are a White director you are more likely to have a White lead, but there definitely is a trend of "wiping out" Blacks in movies. Just my perspective, I speak my mind, your still that dude!....yet another great vid!

My friends brother would always play Zelda, Castlevania, and The Guardian Legend on the NES and it was like an everyday thing. I havent noticed the race thing in video games much although the things I have heard are kinda absurd and not very obvious BUT with movies I have kinda noticed it but not until i heard people mention it lol...Either way, the game just didnt do it for me from what i've played but now i need to play all the way thru it because i saw the trailer for RE 6 and it looks SICK!!!. Resident Evil wasn't just based on Sweet Home's setting, it was also based on the gameplay, minus the rpg elements. And originally there were only black enemies in RE5 and you only played as Chris but them some morons complained that it was racist so they added in other races of enemy and a black second character. Also Resident Evil Revelations for the 3DS is going to be a more classic style RE game. It won't have zombies but its going to play more like the classic RE games.

I'm really happy that zombies are back but it doesn't look like its going to be a survival horror game but instead a shooter. I'm still going to get it and most likely love it. I just really would love to see a game in the main series that not only has zombies, but is a survival horror game as well.

I played Resident Evil 5 first and loved it, i just beat Resident Evil 4 a week ago and loved it even more lol. Now i'm thinking about playing the older ones i did play Resident evil 2 for like 20 mins lol back in the day but the controls put me off and i traded it in. I'm glad to have gotten a wii recently so i can play through the remake of the first one.

Excellent video Nick. I was always partial to RE2, as it was the first one I owned. My buddy owned RE1 and we played it at his house. I was acclimated to survival horror before Resident Evil with the Alone in the Dark series for the PC. That game was definitely ahead of its time and ran well on a IBM 286. But, in my humble opinion, RE4 is a top five game of all time, let alone Resident Evil. RE5 is absolute garbage. I played it until the first boss and turned it off for good. Good stuff!

after beating one. I remember seeing screenshots of 2 and being blown away by how many zombies was in one of the pictures. I beat 2 and 3 and liked all of them then I played 4 and really couldent getinto it and the same with Code Veronica. I would really like to play that Gamecube version you talked about of the original. So, to answer your question, I would like to see another RE game done more like the first 3 than the newer ones. I remember the first time I played Resident Evil, I was about 12 and saw it a blockbuster and I believe on the back of the cover it showed one of those big spiders and that was the only reason I picked it up. I got home and didnt have a memory card yet so I went and bought my first memory card the next day. The original is by far the most memorable resident evil of the series for me and my favorite, followed by Resident Evil 2. Like u I was really pumped for 2 to come out

Great video, man... Thinking about the first RE game on PSX and Saturn really takes you back. It looked so awesome in magazines before it was released. The people looked like real people, real-looking places, and it was just so different from the cartoonish stuff the industry had given gamers for 10 years prior.
My first PSX game was gonna be either RE or Return Fire. I went with Return Fire and I think I made the right choice. Played RE a year or so later. Not a lot of love for the series now

Great overview of the series. I'm with you. I'm waiting for that classic RE game to take me back to '96. RE:Revelations for the 3DS looks its going to be that.
The original RE and RE2 are my favorites with RE4 close behind. I didn't mind RE5 but I think they (meaning Capcom) really lost focus on what the series was originally about. I liked the co-op action, but like you said it just didn't feel like Resident Evil.

Hear! Hear! I'm all for classic RE gaming. I hate first person view- the third person original with all those blind-spots, slow-open-pausing doors, angles where all you could see is the zombies coming at you added to the suspense. The haunted mansion theme has been used many times (ie- Alone in the Dark), but it's perfect for RE. Keep the original, add new rooms, mb new characters/bosses/weaponry, but stay true to the story and music. And of course- throw in some of those non-sensical puzzles :)

First, it's awesome that's you're doing this.Like me- I loved RE 1- it was incredible when it first came out- those pre-rendered backgrounds and bad voice acting added to the charm. RE 2 was great but nothing beats the original. RE on the GameCube was outstanding- I really liked it too. Zero was ok but like you said- forgettable. I stopped playing after the over-the-shoulder view RE 4&5- just not the same.

Resident Evil is one of my favorite franchises, RE2 for me was the best in the series. I remember buying the gamecube just for the Remake, 0 & 4. But after playing all these games I have to say those tank controls started to get old and RE4 was a necessary step in the right direction if the series was to evolve and not become stale. But I have to agree that RE5 is the weakest game in the main series. I am looking forward to RE ORC. Anyway great video Nick keep up the great work !!!

First time i had ever even seen resident evil was when i was 12 and my friend who was older than me had it for PS 1. The begining intro movie to me was AWESOME!. i had never seen real live actors in a video game. but it was the first game i had ever seen that had that type of gameplay. i was used to side scrollers before that so Resident evil was different to me.

Great vid and great story! I remember the first time I played RE 1. It was the first survival horror game I ever played and that experience was unforgettable. I loved cheesy B-movie horror movie live action cutscenes, and I was sad to see that they moved away from the live action cutscenes. I also loved RE2 but like you, I prefer RE 1. Sadly I haven't played any other RE game after 2. The next one I play might be RE 5 although Operation Raccoon City looks sweet!

@ballinnick1982 Yeah, I do plan on getting RE3. Back in the day, I had planned on getting it for PS1, but then they announced it for Dreamcast, so I wanted to get that version instead. However, my plan for getting the Dreamcast version kept getting pushed back, and so it's now 2012 and I still don't have RE 3 yet. LOL
I do have have RE4 on PS2, Code Veronica X on PS2, RE Zero on Gamecube, and RE5 on PS3.

Funny, I woke up this morning and felt like playing something I haven't played in a while and grabbed RE1 for Gamecube. I'm about 4 hours in at the moment, and then got on here and saw you posted this video. Crazy! Operation Raccoon City and Revelations on the horizon have had me thinking about the old RE games recently.
My first was RE1 way back in 1996. My best friend and I played it from start to finish. I controlled, he read the strategy guide. It was amazing.

Resident Evil 5 was my first RE once you get to level 3-2 it gets fun but level 4 is BRUTAL.
Have you read the original RE 5 plans? They have diagrams they should've went with that. I'll send it if you'd like. Sheva was bad AI to the max then great when you got her :/
Racoon City why did they let a Socom developer develop it UGH if you saw the fake RE 6 trailer that tone is what I'd like to see. Dark tone, scary and yes a good story. They'd have to make a new story due to the ending of 5

Im ok with the Resi 4 gameplay style but I would prefer the series go back to the zombie infested raccoon city dark environment as opposed to the daylight african setting of resi 5.
I honestly couldn't see the series go back to the tank controls of the first set of games on the ps1. They worked for their time but gameplay has moved on significantly from then and going back to that style of play would hurt the game more than anything else in the eyes of modern gamers.

I really didn't care for 5 much either. Its a good game but it just doesn't have the RE vibe to it. As for what I'd like to see... I'd love to see Shinji Mikami direct a new Resident Evil. Unfortunately that will probably never happen unless Capcom is willing to hire him under contract. I have high hopes for Operation Racoon City and Revelations because they both look to be darker in tone. We'll have to wait and see how they turn out though.

I've played every RE game. It's hard to rank them. They're all very good. I understand why you didn't like RE 5, it does get a little darker later in the game though. It looks like they're going for more RE 5 type of games and maybe even more action than before with the new game about to be released later this year. Kind of sucks, but I'll buy it and hopefully it's good.

I really loved the RE remake on GameCube. That was my first experience with the series. I got my copy used from Blockbuster and has to exchange the game 3 times in order to get a set of discs that worked. After that I got Resident Evil 2 & 3 as well on the Gamecube. I really wish they would have redone 2 and 3 with the same graphics engine as the 1st game on Gamecube. After that I got Resident Evil 0 for christmas and later on I got 4 when it was released. I owe the Gamecube for my RE history.

Im not really a fan of the resident evil games, my favorite RE game is Resident Evil 0 for the gamecube. I tried out the first RE on PSN cause it was $10 i tried playing it and could not figure out what to do. I got pretty far in it as Chris, but i got bored of it. Another good way to play RE on the go is the PS one Classic on PSN. Great Video Nick =)
