Just listening to Randy's tone tells you that one nuance will completely destroy the performance, and that many other guitarists couldn't even partially control it. You can tell that feedback is a single mistake's distance away. What does that say about Rhoads' precision?

But the caveat there was by the time I bought my 800 I was playing with the gain at about 1/2. Rhoads played with his gain at least on 11

They all worked to make music that scared the shit out of people in the early 70's, and it wasn't even Ozzy's idea, he always wanted to be a "Beatle".
Sabbath was a great band of musicians. No doubt!!!! But Ozzy defined it's persona.

Okay Jake. Fair enough. And I wan't trying to take anything away from the man. He was a genius. But Ozzy's style, his persona, and his ability to hit the right notes were all impeccable. I don't think I've ever heard anyone as good. Sure, there's people who can hit higher notes, but they can not match his style. NO WAY> People LOVE OZZY! And Ronnie James Dio, he was good, but he was NO OZZY!

For those two albums you could have plugged 90% of the L.A. guitarists of the day into that band and they'd be the dead hero.Ozzy became a third rate lounge act living on the success of Blizzard and Diary before the end of the 80's. He is now , as they say , "milking it"

@MisterMouthy Ozzy's voice itself is NOT great. But the heart and soul he puts into it and the music behind him is what makes it sound so awesome.
Ozzy was NOT the driving force behind Sabbath at all, in fact he even said himself he never contributed musically except for vocal melodies (Geezer wrote the lyrics). He always had to go the direction they wanted, not him. When he finally went solo he felt a great sense of accomplishment because that was HIS music he was playing, not Black Sabbath's.

And don't tell me that Ozzy's lyrics sound the same for his solo career and Black Sabbath. You can clearly tell that Ozzy had very little to do with lyricism in that band, he cam up with the melodies and is one crazy motherfucking frontman, thats what made Sabbath get big, but they both needed eachother.

Ozzy is way more creative and his stage presence is unbeatable. But, it was because of Black Sabbath that Ozzy became famous, and the other way around as well. Neither of them would have made it without the other, Ozzy needed kick-ass music for people to take him seriously.

@MisterMouthy No, its not "hitting high notes", Dio is an opera style singer with a slightly raspy tone. He is like a tenor, and the power that is behind his voice in "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" is what made me respect him, he was already famous from that band when Sabbath began to work with him.

Ozzy played his part in the band and did a damn good job, but he really wouldn't have gotten anywhere if it wasn't for the rest of Sabbath, not just Tony Iommi, but Bill Ward and Geezer butler too. They all worked to make music that scared the shit out of people in the early 70's, and it wasn't even Ozzy's idea, he always wanted to be a "Beatle".
