Grohl MADE this band - they'd still be very underground if it wasn't for him playing on this album. Castillo sucks - he does HALF of Grohl's fills at BEST. The other fills he does on his own are just plain old lame - the kind of dumbing-down fills I'd do when I was 13, and had no technique. Ok, bash my post. =)

I mean Dave is amazing, but his playing isnt THAT hard to copy. in comparison to so some jazz or metal drummers for example. when Dave plays you always see that he really feels the song, feels what he does. Castillo isnt bad at all, I think he should just show way more effort than he actually does imho.

@VanTobyx I do agree with you to a point...but it's really about the feeling on this particular opinion of mine. Castillo's style just doesn't do much for me, I suppose. Grohl is all heart, IMO. He's definitely not a technical, wiz-kid-mathematician drummer like Thomas Lang, or Max Roach - but when I hear Grohl's playing, it inspires me. Technicality is fun sometimes, too...but hairs standing up on the back of your neck will always get top-billing for me. =)

But this is actually pretty common: Jack White, Josh Homme, James Hetfield, Paul McCartney, and others can all play guitar/bass/drums/sing and write music. the difference is that Grohl's *best* instrument is one he doesn't play every day (drums), while the other guys are primarily guitarists.

At 0:15 he is also using a Zildjian ride, but it looks like that might be a 20inch..

My point is; I guess he used a lot of different stuff during his QOTSA days :)
