Greetings - just a note about comment posting. I have retained comment approval on the videos that pertain to Inger Stevens. There may be a delay in seeing your comment appear. Sometimes I just plain miss seeing them, and sometimes I don't approve them at all. Inger is survived by many friends and family and, as these videos are intended as a memorial to her, I simply want to keep things as clean as one would expect at any memorial. Thanks, and hope you understand.
I grew up in Boiling Springs (where this was filmed at Allenberry Playhouse). My dad was a cop in the Carlisle episode (Some of the People, Some of the Time).
@EuroNRGDJ Well, you have the right first name - now if your last name is Stiles and you have a 'Vette ... :-)
Does the Allenberry Playhouse still stand - still used? That was cool about this TV series. They might come to your hometown. I remember they did an episode 80 miles down the road from here at Carlsbad Caverns.
@sseklof - The playhouse is still there and in use. I was an usher there when I was in high school back in the 80's. There is a site with pics then and now of different locations of the show. See ohio66.com and look for the ones filmed in PA. There are some behind-the-scenes pics from the Carlisle episode....
@EuroNRGDJ Thank you very much Todd! That IS a terrific site - love the pics. I also went to the Allenberry website - what a beautiful resort! The kind of place that is hard to find in these days - looks incredibly charming - would love to stay there. All that ambience plus entertainment too. Very impressive. I will try to put their links in the info section of this video. Thanks again.
@sseklof - Not a problem! If you are ever out this way, let me know. I'm back home about every other weekend from Pittsburgh. Could show you around some of the sites from 'Bubble-Town'. That's what the nick-name is as we are called the Boiling Springs Bubblers! Named after the Boiling Spring in the lake as it 'bubbles'... LOL
@EuroNRGDJ Thanks! Could happen. I work with a retired gentleman from PA. He lived in Philly and Pittsburgh as well as up in Juniata so from him I get at least a bit of education in things Pennsylvania. Should I ever go back with him when he visits, I'll take you up on that!
Inger's niece, Athena Ashburn and her husband, now have their own You Tube channel - 20DollarShow. See three original episodes that feature a Twilight Zone flavored mix of eerie story lines delivering a timely social comment. Also see the article on Inger Stevens done by Gary brumburgh in the May issue of Classic Images magazine and visit his You Tube channel - gbrumburgh.
Riveting. I haven't seen this since the first airing. 1 short scene...blows every USA TV show of the past 40 years out of the water. The power of one of the great supporting actresses of theatre and silver screen Beulah Bondi and the young and brilliant Inger Stevens. The ending is resolved too simplistically but it is afterall TV. They tried to do theatre condensed. And the fact that the two series stars were just window dressing shows the dignity, high caliber and professionalism they had. TY
@globalmanThanks for your comments. I have the entire Route 66 series on DVD - it's been available from several sources over the years. By coincidence, I happened to watch this entire episode last night was struck all over again by how good this series really was - the entire cast in this one. Naturally being a shamelessly overt Inger fan, I completely agree with your comments about her. Man, she really was something special!
Be sure to check out a new Inger Stevens tribute "Still More Inger Stevens" posted by my fellow Inger fan lemster2024. He is curator of the Inger Stevens Memorial web site. His tribute features some rarely seen photos plus an audio clip of Inger singing a traditional Scandinavian lullaby.
Inger Stevens was, in a word.... fabulous. Not only beautiful, not only an actress of amazing range and versatility, she was kind, humanitarian, and genuinely interested in the welfare of other people. I think that an "INGER STEVENS CHANNEL" is a great idea! She was one of the GREATS, yet was taken for granted at that time. Let her never be forgotten, let her always be loved.
@TheTrofirhen Agreed! Inger was an extraordinary woman and an extraordinary person. As Jerry Lem (of her tribute web site) has said: "I think she deserves our best efforts." It is heart warming to see recognition of her on the increase. There are now many videos of her on You Tube.
There are so many examples on You Tube that prove it. It seems Inger developed a potent combination of competence + versatility. Light, medium, or heavy - she delivered whatever level of acting that was called for. She did TV series, TV variety shows (singing on Danny Kaye and The Smothers Brothers) and movies from comedy to drama to westerns. She did game shows and even hosted parts of the Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was absent. An amazing talent and a genuine and caring person.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I was 8 years old in 1961 and the show made a deep impression on me. When we would take vacations, we would travel a short distance on Route 66. Used to love seeing all the license plates!
Back in 1963, myself and a buddy drove the whole length of the fabled Route 66, from Chicago to So Cal. (San Diego).
This was of course before the interstate highway system and all of the big fast food chains. The trip of a lifetime for a young man, through the heartland of America. I still have a lot of black and white photos of that trip.
At the time Route 66 was nothing more than a north-south road to us, then came the TV series, the Rolling Stones song and the nostalgia of a lost America.
Yeah, those were cool times. There are still some parts of the original two lane road here in my state. Just a side note: The song Route 66 was written by Bobby Troupe - who played Doctor Early on the old "Emergency" TV show. Bobby was a great guy too.
Thank You Very Much For This Video. Inger Stevens Was A Great But Underrated Actress. I Saw Her First 1967 In THE FARMERS DOUGTHER (German Title: KATY). Unfortunately: They Only Aired 26 Episodes Here But Her Natural Beauty, Her Wonderfull Work Are Not Forgotten...
My pleasure J.M. I think I also first noticed Inger in the Farmer's Daughter. I was too young for a mad crush or anything - she was just someone I instinctively liked, as did many people. I wish someone would bring that series back.
