Okay- let's just settle this right now...that is a Les Paul Junior solo..that is NOT Joe Perry. I give Joe credit for many years of great work and composition BUT listen to Lou Reed's Sweet Jane solo and this solo and it is clearly Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner! They were no Aerosmith so someone give them some damn credit! I love Joe Perry BUT...Mr Perry...at the time....you were NO Steve Hunter!
OUTSTANDING! This was my first r&r album and my fav tune, next would be Lord of The Thighs. It is one of the reason I still play. The second half is off the charts. ROCK ON!
"Airborne" fans in Central Illinois...remember this??? Blew up the R & R lounge back in the '70's with this song...Kevin used too much gunpowder and cleared the place out...great times!!
aerosmith might've ended up in the upper echelon if they'd signed these two session lead players - Steve and Dick ? they are so badass..too bad aerosmith sold out for profit and now st is a judge of talent on some silly show..
Search this song live of the band doing Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special and see Joe struggle to play the solos. It was Steve Hunter who played the first solo & Dick Wagner on this recorded version of the song from the album Get your Wings. Joe & Brad couldn't cut it so Jack Douglas bought in a pair of hired guns to finish it.
@jair333 Theirs a difference between playing your own solos and playing someone elses. Joe didn't create the solos in "Train", Steve & Dick did. So that's why he struggled with it. Wasn't territory he was use too. I never seen Jimmy , Jimi or Slash struggle at anything they created in the studio first then live second. All 3 of those guitarist are well beyond Joe ability at his early beginnings with Aerosmith. Joe did blossom as he got older and matured in the band.
@HoosierLine Cant disagree with the last part BUT!!! i have seen jimi page played EXTREMLY SLOPPY at times look him up on youtube, so did has slash. I always thought train kept a rolling was an Old blues song Aerosmith covered..... so who "created" the solos is irrelevant.
@HoosierLine hahahahahaha ur funny slash better than perry haha good 1 and freakin jeff beck wrote the origional solo in the yardbirds and so wat if this isnt his his in sweet emotion and walk this way r far better than this anyway
Dick Wagner solos on the "live" version. Steve Hunter solos on the first version. Both guitarists were brought in to embellish this album. That's why it's the most musical of all the Aerosmith releases.
Sorry, It's Dick Wagner on he Solo.. I saw the Gold Record in his studio he got for it. Dick was a Studio Musician in New York and the producer of the record Bob Erin didn't like Perry version. He called in Wagner and he played over what Perry did. Oh, and the crowd is from Bangdel Des Concert to give it the live apperance.
Rockers like me that grew up in the Motor City during the 1960's and 1970's remember Dick Wagner's early playing days with The Frost and later, the original Alice Cooper Group. He rocked Detroit something fierce and we're very proud of him. Man....I never knew his talents were used on this Aerosmith recording!!!
Dick Wagner & Steve Hunter were hired because Joe Perry could not play the 'live' seciton at all when it came about... that's whey Ezrin got the best to do it, Wagner & Hunter. Not a footnote in history at all these two guys!!
"This was my favorite Aerosmith song too! Before I found out that it wasn't Joe Perry or Brad Whitford playing guitar on it. It was Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner. Two hired guns!! pfft. They played on Train and Same old song and dance. @kauailove310 Listen to the Rocks album . There's a reason why Joe Perry is a legend . He is very badass at what he does . Listen to Toys in the Attic another great album . Dick who?Steve who ? Mere footnotes in rock history at best .

@mcolquitt Yeah, that wasn't unusual for 70s records...found out about a bunch on my favorite bands where a band member wasn't up to snuff during recording and weren't credited. Session players should be credited, but I think for those groups that were just starting out (this in AS's 2nd album) they were afraid of turning people off on all-important records. But they can play it live and their 70s concerts were packed later. Love this cover.
