  • These photos are the same as those held by the Royal Aero Club Trust. They are of the 1,000 mile trials. C.S. Rolls was one of the winners.

  • Great video but al THE people in it where white

  • @vomar100 At the time, 'diversity' was a dirty word...

  • Ha i guess alot of people thought: ''What shall we do with the horses now??''

Of course there was alot more the horses could do that the cars couldn't, but they transport was the horses most important job

  • @krollaostmedburger That decision was made for them in 1914. Millions of horses were killed in WWI.

  • fantastic footage. Thanks so much. Makes one wish we could time travel.

  • ...uhhh ok? lol nice music? not really I was expecting for footage from the early 1900's

  • The Casio elevator muzak really makes this work.

  • Great video! People dressed so much nicer back then :) Thanks for this interesting vid.

  • :-)

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • I wonder what would have happened if

the car and airplain were never invented

would we be using horses still or using

    bicycles instead or both?

    What do people think

  • What a fascinating piece of history you have in your family. Thanks for sharing!

  • Aw, they'll never replace the horse and buggy.

  • This looks to be a collection of photo's possibly from the very earliest London to Brighton Runs, celebrating the emancipation of the Motor Car in England in 1896.....

  • Thanks so much for sharing this important bit of history!

  • great set of pictures!! what is that thing in the picture at 1.41? just behind the front wheel, it looks like its coming from the ground?

  • It's a peice of cloth hanging on the side.

  • I find the history of the good 'ol fashion auta-mabile quite a mind boggling caboodle of scientific marvels. Fantastic job pulling back old memories from before I lost my dear old Mary-lou Jane (sorry i couldnt present a more detailed inquiry, but these dog-arn keyboards hurt my fingers too darn much! im going to go take a nap, please excuse me.)

    Regards,

    Charles Edwin Callipry

  • Amazing. I enjoyed seeing this footage. What an interesting history you present, especially about your grandfather-in-law's business. Those truly were "horseless carriages" if one judges the bodies on those vehicles. The iron truss-work inside the exhibition hall in one clip was fascinating; what we take for granted in today's construction really was state-of- the art back then. Fascinating to see all of these images from so long ago. Thanks for posting.

  • thanks for leaving out the ubiquitous muzak-underlay. A few subtitles as to location, event might have been helpful, though. Otherwise: good!

  • Where was this?

  • This was the first Great Britain Rally

  • Do you know where it was held?

    Great photos, by the way.

  • thats the luxury of 1900's.

  • I'm really pleased to see these photographs on here. They're superb quality. Thank you.

  • Great pictures! Glad to see there not locked in a cupboard or museum.Would have been better set to music though. Maybe "as long as the gas holds out" from the 1920s.

    Thanks for sharing...
