I cannot immagine what for a father or mother must be to see a son or daughter growing, a mix of love and sadness to have him/her getting a bit far.. I think this song describes it very well
@corimar23 I tell you that is almost impossible for a mom to sing this song to a child and specially on their bday, my daughter just turned 11 today, and i am crying my eyes out just listening to this song....
im spilt from my wife couple of yrs ago, i see my daughter every other day but it never seems enough, and my little girl was 6yrs old last wk, love her so much..., this song always brings tears to my eyes.
I watched my eldest daughter grow up and go to uni,ive now got a 2 year old toddler who i dont want to grow up, why cant time stand still for a while .
agree with aluzzz000 - never will there be a legend like Abba....still going in 2011 & everyone knows the words even when they deny liking Abba....they stood the test of time & this song makes me sad as a mum....i hope i did things right....the song makes me cry....i think i did it right!! (-: x
Here I am again, raptured by this amazing song, the melody, the lyrics, the truth which is in it. The beauty of childwood and the harshness of time which goes so fast have never been described with so much of intensity, love and a tragic sens of powerless than in "Slipping through my finger" - I love ABBA, they were and will remain unique - Thank you for posting
Nu cred ca poate exista vreodata o formatie de muzica care sa poata dainui mai mult decat ABBA, cat despre melodie...ar fi melodia pe care as vrea sa-mi conduc fata la altar ...
swedemont - I like a lot , but not all, of Abba's music. But sorry, in my opinion The Beatles were much better AND more consistent with the quality of their songs. They are the best of all time. But each to his/her own.
My 'baby' just turned 21 today and this song always reminds me of her. I am blubbering away like a baby, because I just wonder how those 21 years could have 'slipped through my fingers' so fast...
Wasn't it only yesterday that I bought her first school uniform and packed her lunch box?
Just listening to this song right now, I have to admit I literally teared up. I just can't see any of todays music having such an effect on anyone. I'll love ABBA till death.
One of the saddest songs ever written, never fails to bring a tear to my eye on every listen. One of ABBA's very best, up there with 'Fernando' and 'Chiquitita'. Wonderful song.
Lovely ballad about the wistful wishes of a parent who knows she is losing a child who grows up everyday. Good lyrics by Benny Anderson & Bjorn Ulvaeus.
Problem is, this goes for every piece of music from Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.... there is always some of their songs intruding my day (and night...)
ABBA fan since 1974. First time I heard this song was in the movie " Mamma Mia". Not sure why I had not heard this song before but I have to say this is now one of my favorites!!
goblinonacloud I cried along with you I am so sorry for your loss cant imagine how you must feel nothing can be worse than loosing a child my prayers are with you
want to say how fantastic this song is.. I'm thinking that it comes from the heart. xxx You must have had experience to write such special lyrics. That came from the heart. xxx
I think the blonde is beautiful.. and love her voice I became addicted to watching these video's just to see her face. I want me a swedish girl now.. loved it..
My sister is 13. When she was younger, she was always the most cheerful and bright person, but not popular and low self esteem. Now she's in high school and she has found herself popularity, but the low self esteem has taken it's toll. She is no longer cheerful, and bright but more of the vain and arrogant attitude of popular kids. I never cry ever, but this song just about brings me to tears when I think about how she has changed. ABBA - the greatest band ever, their music will never die ever.
I loved that song when it came, now my daughter is the same age and soon living home. Time goes by, but the most funny thing is that she loves the songs from the 70 as much as me. Not many bands can do that...
ABBA sang songs which described perfectly some of the most important situations in people's lives. An admirable exploit considering they wrote in English, a second language to them. They have all my respect. It would be hard to choose a favourite among their songs, but this one is lovely (lump in my throat thinking about how fast kids grow up)
my daughter just turned seven and it does really only seem like yesterday she was born.this is such a sad song and as a man of 36 it really does make me cry and im not affraid to say it
This song always makes my heart ache as I see my daughter in slumber each night... remembering how fast the years have passed and how eventually... she will be slipping through my fingers and I'll have to let her go...
This song always makes my heart ache as I see my daughter in slumber each night... remembering how fast the years have passed and how eventually... she will be slipping through my fingers and I'll have to let her go...
2 beautiful Ladies that never needed loads of makeup and dance in underwear to sell their music. Yet simply ooozed sex appeal, sorry Frid but especially Anna omg !! lol (tho Frida still sexy and vibrant, do not get me wrong) Amazingly and proudly neither have opted for cosmetic surgery To this day! :D Music wise I wish they had done more concerts and yeah , I could've gone a few albums more but we all know why that did not eventuate..sigh. Thank You For The Music ABBA.
I agree, ABBA always will be the greatest.. it's too sad that they broke up hating each other... 28 years of their separation it would be wonderfull for a reunion but ain't happen.
You can hear how Björn was looking at Linda walking to school when he came up with the lyrics, so beautiful! I can't hear this without getting tears in my eyes, a very underrated song, I think every parents can see themselfs in the lyrics.
I had this one big fight with my mom today, and listening to this song makes me feel really terrible, like I'm a bad daughter or something... oh, sigh....
I had this one big fight with my mom today, and listening to this song makes me feel really terrible, like I'm a bad daughter or something... oh, sigh....
I think that any mother understands the feelings here. After my daughter died just before her 18th birthday, I played this over and over trying to remember every little thing..
Amazing pictures of the fading childwood ! Few words but so true indeed, feelings that go so deep into the heart as to chill and shake the entire being,... A universal story simply displayed and shared with an unsurpassable melody by two marvellous voices remarkably blended that can't be forgotten. I will be blessed by this song for days and weeks, ... Thank you so much, ...
@tjxkid sorry, I try, but the eyelids popping up all the time, have to see Agnetha:) ... Totally agree with you. They have two of history's most beautiful voices and when they are mixed it becomes something beyond words
Incomparable voices, convicting lyrics, nice guitar touch from Lasse & Mats. It's two weeks to graduation and I'll be singing this...it's going to be such a struggle. You think: Coulda, woulda, shoulda...didn't.
17 years ago my daughter went to school for the 1st time, thats when i listened to this beautiful song again. i had to get used to it that i saw less of her. this song told me that i wasnt the only mom in the world who felt like i did. now this week she has told me she's pregnant. i'm thrilled because of it and i'm going to send her this song now. when i was a teenager i was a huge abba-fan and she knows that. this will be our special song...
AgnethaFrida - it's not so much sadness as bittersweetness. I'm glad my children have grown into independent adults; but I think every parent feels a little guilty that perhaps they could have done more with their children, or been a better parent, and this song sums up those feelings and pricks the eyes.
this video is touching my heart I love it so much! im 8 but i don`t really like other songs but mamma mia songs. i love this song so much that at the end of the school year i want to sing it to the teachers and my principals.this song is the bam it makes me think of my cousin daron richardson. by the way my name is michaela maviglia.
being a mum im on the other side, but when i saw the show in new york 5 yrs ago, i really cried, wondering did i do all i should have done with my son. by the way it was his 25th birthday that day
Memories of going to pics with my Mam for the first time since Dad died and the same day she was informed of her cancer. I had just given up work to travel with her.. One of the best memories ever. Miss My mam so much.
I love this song! Reminds me that I need to cherish all the little things with my daughter, I get on the verge to cry with this song. Keep in mind, mothers and daughters, we are willing to sacrifice anything for our children.
I had several ABBA eight tracks in the seventies, didn't remember this song..I actually thought this had been written for the musical "Mama Mia". Glad to have found this Vid. It was the most beautiful part of the London perfomance. Still get goose bumps..Love it.
I'm not a mother(that would be wrong), I don't have a child, but I think this song is awesome, It makes me think of the passage of time, and things that I didn't do with my Mom and Dad...
I love this song... it makes me cry because I know I've been wasting my time doing other things instead of spending more time with my little girl. Time doesn't stop and it really pains me to think that migh had hurt her forever. I don't want to miss a day anymore... I love her so much!
I absolutely love this song...my daughter is growing up so fast but I remember every moment with her...this is OUR song.....she is my only child....and nearly 20, but she is still my little girl....
@SHUKOKAI1967 My daughter lives with her Mom, 530 miles from me. I haven't seen her for almost 2 years. She is almost 15,..talk about slipping through my fingers. I'll see her in a month. Hope I don't fall apart.:-)
Any mother of a daughter can easily relate to this song...Sung with such an angelic intensity, it loses nothing by the sweetness of the voice. One of their best.
The all important element here is the deliverer of the musical sound,a person who not only possesses an angelic voice, but has the ability to produce such deep emotion that can rarely be duplicated with such fragile intensity that it's hard to imagine that anyone else could match her or be her equal.
The secret is not in the melody by itself, but how the notes of the melody are moving in relation to the harmonic progression of the song.If someone could figure out the formula to the point of being able to reproduce it at will, without sounding identical, but completely different each time, they would have the secret of writing a hit record on demand becoming a enormously successful song writer and possess the ability to transform sound into more than the sum of it's parts, an almost magical power
The melodic beauty of this song is unreal magic, something that most music strives to be but is seldomly attained to this degree. When the melody is harmonized,it is again transformed into a sphere that is hard to describe with words. The best melodies are the simpliest but what makes a simple melody sound like magic rather than a overly simple succession of boring sounding notes is something that is said to be impossible to teach or understand, just exists defying explanation,an unknown phenomena.
Since I stumbled upon this video 2 hours ago I haven't stopped replaying it yet.I'm not listening to the lyrics.I don't care what they say.I'm a musician.I;m listening to the most beautiful unreal voice singing the most beautiful melody I've ever heard in my life!As of the 1st listening of this song over 2 hours ago ,I now have a new favorite song, singer, and band.It doesn't get any better than this for sheer simple magical beauty. And that's what music is all about. To attain the unattainable .

You can see how hard it was for Agnetha to sing that song. Very beautiful song though to say the least.

Voice's like Agnetha's are very rare and unique. Today's young artists seems to get lost in dance and computerised sounds.

Memories of going to pics with my Mam for the first time since Dad died and the same day she was informed of her cancer. I had just given up work to travel with her.. One of the best memories ever. Miss My mam so much.

It's strange. The first verse doesn't really sound like Agnetha - very high pitched.

Any mother of a daughter can easily relate to this song...Sung with such an angelic intensity, it loses nothing by the sweetness of the voice. One of their best.

28 and up people never knew how it feels to lose someone or something.
Rushman200 1 year ago

@rematpac
Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, there will never be anything like them. (OK, a bit late for a comment...just read you)
nyhamnen 5 months ago 2
