  • "Makers of the most realistic scale-detailed model train equipment"... LOL. Look at the tinplate track!

As well made and robust as Lionel trains were then, they shouldn't make claims like the above in their advertising.

  • fab

  • The Scout sets were a piece of shit.

  • Prettiest Lionel diesel ever: the Wabash from 1957-59. I had the Union Pacific set for years. Was neat to turn out the lights in the room and just see the illuminated windows in the passenger cars.

  • Two of my favorite things. Lionel trains and the Yankees

  • @nukinfuts1000

Two of my favorite things. Lionel trains and the Dodgers.

  • Yeah, no you can't even buy 'em. If you do they're made in communist China. Thats just swell!

  • @grizzleybearz282004 With globalization US plants are not going to happen. I don't restrict myself to Lionel. I have Williams,MTH and K-Line. I do like Williams because they last longer with few computer things to go wrong.

  • @yardlet6 do you have lionel as well? and thats cool with the williamas sets i like alot of what williamas sets your right thay are good runners and look pretty nice as well and very and there affordable i want to get there #773 nyc hudson set and there #746 n&w j class blue ridge set but if i did the sounds thay got in them have to go and be upgraded ether with a standerd air whistle or with lionels railsounds setup thay have a few nice railsounds setup that you can buy and you can install it

  • @grizzleybearz282004 I have the Santa Fe Chief,NYC steamer,Harry Potter,Metro North,Long Island sets. Plus other locomotives and cars.

  • @grizzleybearz282004 Nothing against the Chinese people, but if Lionel is not made in the US I dont buy it ,its not authentic, its like if they made Rolls Royce cars in China ,who wants a Chinese Roller? might be nicely made like the Chinese Lionel is but it doesn't have that authentic home made feeling.

I'm a Brit and prefer prewar and post war Lionel American made, the ones I have, which are scarce in the UK still run like new, well loved paint chipped but beautiful strong steel engineering.

  • @eaglerock999 i know just how you feel and its not just the home made in the usa feeling that i dont like about the modern era of lionel made over in china there made much cheaper today there not being checked out for defects before there shiped out to the us and we are paying top doller for them i think thats bullshit

  • Toys these days just don't leave nothing for the imagination . That is one reason Lionel was and still today the greatest toys ever made

  • I love model trains and I have mostly N-gauge stuff that I've collected through my teenage years (It has become too expensive for my poor College self) and I also have some Lionel stuff that I have sitting up on my shelf at home that I plan on passing on to my children.

A lot of people like it, but it just happens to be quite expensive.

  • i am 15. thats right a teenager, and i have a small but signifigant layout in my basement, i also own a red ryder bb gun. i am just one of a few kids in my generation that see that our generation has problems. i started a train club in the neighborhood i live in and he have over 33 members! mostly teens and pre-teens. just goes to show you that there is some good in this world

  • @kenworthjoe13 - Yeah sure i like hip hop and rock music, i text, and im young but growing up ive had trains and appreciate them and what the hell, trains bring out the innocence and fun in all of us!

  • @MrPelhambay an escape from reality

  • @tigerboy1227 - it is

  • @MrPelhambay Your right I just hate how people hate on us modelers/railfans because we like trains. It's like you don't like it then shut the heck up. I like what I like you like what you like. Like one comment I once saw "it's better than wasting your money on alcohol, drugs, and video games. At lease you have something to show for." You know?

  • @LycoValleyRRFan - exactly

  • @LycoValleyRRFan

i agree im always getting picked on at school for likeing trains , but its a lot better than wasting money on alcohol and drugs because with trains u get joy and happiness for a life time, but with beer and drugs u get a screwed up mind and body and a couple of hours of joy out of it, seem pretty pefetic to me

  • @MrJohndeere55 right and the medical and legal cost plus look at the drug violence. And if you Drinking and driving and kill someone you have to have that in your mind for the rest of your life. And with trains you can sell them and get some money back but that's a last resort try that with drugs/alcohol you used.

  • @LycoValleyRRFan

yes id pick trains any day

  • @MrJohndeere55 Do what you enjoy and tell those who are picking on you for liking trains to go fuck themselves.

    Cheers!

  • @Robofish12

exactly , i love trains , tractors and stuff like that , and il always luv it so yes i agree they can go fuck them selves, il have to get a vid up of the layout i ve been working on , its a 4x8 2 track layout its awsome lots to go yet a layout is never done, do u have face book?

  • @MrJohndeere55 That's cool, you'll have to send me the link to the video when you finish it.

    Cheers!

  • @Robofish12 yes im doing scenery work on it now , ill send u aliknk in acuple of days of it un finished

  • @MrPelhambay

yes i agree trains r awesome theres nothing better

  • @MrJohndeere55 - exactly, nothing better then being in charge of your very own railroad empire!

  • @MrPelhambay

    yup i agree

  • @kenworthjoe13

wow i have a lot of respect for you im 14 and i have all kinds of toy trains and i agree there is somthing wrong with kids in this generation, u r awsome

  • @MrJohndeere55 thank you. its nice to see that there are people that have a similar mindset

  • And when were done playing with the train, we'd go out and shoot birds with our Red Ryder air rifle! Better than smoking dope!

  • Yeah, it's too bad that this great hobby is so expensive now. I think there are a-lot of people who would get interested in model trains but just can't afford it.

  • @strafrag1 Actually Playstation and X-box which is more expensive, has caused a lack of interest in this old school hobby. Trains were the computer games in times of old. Usually there were only one TV per household and not everybody wanted to watch the same show. That was where trains filled that void. Now kids are carrying cell phones and laptops and passing the time away on youtube or text messaging.

  • @strafrag1

yes true im big on g scale and the prices are outragous i mean it almost 500 for an engine and makit 1000 dallers with an enginer for sound, and at 50 to 100 dallers a car it gets expensive fast

  • back then you could get a set for 30 or an engine for 5 dollars today its a trillion dollars for a set or engine

  • @kirbyfan600 you have to think about how much 30 dollars was back then... and some sets back then did cost up to 85 dollars and if you factor in inflation... the price really hasnt changed much

  • @kirbyfan600 Well maybe a million dollars. That's if you get accessories like operating coal loader, logging station and a couple of operating rolling stock to go with them. You could always get a simple train that just goes around and around in tight circle until you get dizzy....that would just setcha back halfa-mil.

  • Great commercial... What year? Must be circa 1952
