  • I don't understand what everyone is so pissed off about. I grew up watching M.A.S.H. and I am a big fan of House as well. This is a very well put together video that could fit the subject matter of both television shows and instigates thought and consideration of different kinds of pain and suffering both emotional and physical. I can't find anything offensive or upsetting about it. I love the idea. @kaitlinredmond Intriguing idea and fine execution! I approve! :~)

  • @JesseBlue1791 Reasonable comments shouldn't be such a rarity on Youtube, but they are. Thanks for this - this video seems to rile people up, for one reason or another (people seem to think I'm insulting either Mash or House - both of which I like, or that I'm advocating suicide, when I thought it was obvious that I'm not - I mean, do any of these scenes of House's self-destruction seem appealing?). Again, thanks for your comment, glad you liked the video.

  • @JesseBlue1791 Thanks for your work making and posting this. I too am a fan of House and M.A.S.H. your work fits both. You would never hear the lyrics or the title "Suicide is Painless" on TV. It was always called "The Theme To M.A.S.H.", the lyrics and title were considered too rude or crude or something for TV. Your work and even the movie version where Jawbreaker "commits suicide" to the tune do not advocate suicide in any way. Watch the movie and see that there was no real suicide.

  • This make me cry, all the things in this video are things in my life, this video shows my life in 3 minutes...xx

  • Agreed - this is one of the deepest and most moving movie theme songs ever. Truly this song has been so misunderstood, as it is truly about LIVING. The men and women depicted in the movie and TV show are fighting for life in the chaos of war and the battle to save lives while staying alive. Suicide is "painless" - death is by far the easier choice, as this song lays out by speaking to the pain of living.

  • Hawkeye is surgeon, he has to be more human than House, which is just curious about his cases, not the patients. No wonder they different

M*A*S*H, actually, was about the War, not Korean or Vietnam. Any modern war.

    Anyway, nice vid.

PS Sorry for my bad english :3

  • I love this song and I love house. but you just put a bunch of house clips with no significances to the actual song. Nice try but just like having sex with a condom I'm just not feeling it.

  • I believe it's meant to be ironic and satirical. Last I checked, House was pretty dramatic.

  • @ dotchoo the mash movie theme was used on the 1st pilot of the tv show

  • even though House isn't suicidal, I still think this song suits him well, mainly because of his inadvertent self-destructive nature

  • Let me ask u all something... Exactly what is wrong with being a functional addict?

  • The Black Capsule

  • WINGNUTZ All ah ya!

  • hahah i don't know who's played the song like this or if this is the original version but it's hilarious. and it's even more hilarious and corny with the videos of house put together as if he was suicidal

  • @dotchoo have u ever watched mash? I think u would get it then...

  • Comment removed

  • @dotchoo 99% sure this is the original version. If it's not it's eerily similar. The music is by Johnny Mandel and the lyrics by Mike Altman (Robert Altman's son). I don't know who actually performed the song for the movie MASH, but it wasn't Johnny Mandel even though he's often credited for it. Both the music and the lyrics were performed for the movie version, but only the instrumental for the TV version.

  • I know this song is Mash of song but this is nice too

  • If House had been written as suicidal in the show, this video would have been perfect.

  • @NishinTheGreat Well none of the doctors in MASH were suicidal, save for Painless Pole, so that's beside the point.

  • It would be interesting if they revealed Hawkeye to be House's father.

  • I love this combination. Fits beautifully. After all, to me, House looks a bit like Donald Sutherland's Hawkeye and acts a good bit like Alan Alda's Hawkeye (especially in later M*A*S*H seasons).

  • ignore all the negative comments i though the video was great thanks for the upload

  • doesn't mix well sorry dude

  • A man cannot be simply reduced to his "crutches" in life.

I'm currently weening off of Oxy/Morphine after 2 years of hospitalization problems. I appreciate the writers on House for keeping it serious and realistic.

  • This is a great song for many reasons. I don't know if a video exists yet that truly captures this song but this one is pretty darn good.....well done and thanks...

  • yeah that isn't scary at all!

  • Brilliant, and well done! House is the most existential/philosophical show on TV doday!

  • Frankly, as a huge fan of both MASH (the movie) and House, I thought this was downright brilliant - a wonderful time-spanning, cross-cultural ode to a common theme. Dr. House both fascinates and scares me, the same way the characters of MASH did. Anybody who doesn't like this video is either unwilling to admit that similar themes are prominent throughout human history or stupid. Wonderful art, in my opinion.

  • What a creative combination of song and video... you're an artist... Thanks for posting.

  • The pictures are chosen very well... :-D

  • Nice!!

  • What eposido is between 00:44 and 00:46?

  • s02e24

  • I remember when I was little my dad and I used to watch MASH all the time...it was our favorite thing to do together...and added with my new favorite show being House, this made my day. ^__^ Thanks so much for making this video!

  • Good job!!

  • there no compairison because when MASH was you only had 7 choices at any one time slot. Fuckin idiot

  • I too am a fan of House. However, there's really no comparison. House is just one of the many typical medical/doctor shows that you see nowadays. MASH was an original. A classic still to this day. In fact, Goodbye, Farewell and Amen, the MASH series finale is and remains to this day the most watched show in TV history. Even topping any and all Superbowl games. No medical show including House could ever top that.

  • Good for you.

  • @dogglebe All I read was "herp derp durr hurr" MASH: Movie about an odd assortment of doctors trying to cope with the irony of saving lives in a War. House: Show about an odd assortment of doctors helping odd cases, with the Irony that House him self suffers from drug addiction and other issues. I say it fits in either way.

  • @dogglebe these are the actual lyrics to the "mash song". Mash took they out for the program. It was this song previous.

  • @cottonkrown I'm familiar with MASH, both the movie and the series. It has nothing to do with House, except for the fact that he's a doctor.

  • I wish there was a doctor like house. I'd be his nearly best smart ass friend. But Cuddy's awesome, so I'd probably bother her a bit.

Nice vid. I think the people are fascinated with House's near death experiences every season.

  • @CheapShotMike you seen mash?

  • it was korea not vietnam dumbshit

  • you're not too bright are you...

anyone who knows anything about the show knows that it was all about Vietnam, but at the time they couldn't say it was about Vietnam, so they made it Korea.

honestly, how can someone so dim call anyone "dumshit" which is a really great argument by the way... you silly little fucktard.

  • CheapShotMike, well actually if u watch the "Makeing of M.A.S.H" doco, u will c that the movie was supposed to give the impression that it was in veitnam, however, the tv show was dedicated to the events of the KOREAN WAR.

  • @CheapShotMike We all knew it was supposed to be about Vietnam but as of now you can't slate the war. Only someone who has seen conflict would know that all wars are the same only the scenary changes...

  • I dont believe it was against the war, I do believe that they tried to show the realities of war.

  • @SuperMagnumpi me to but everyone yells at me for watching anti war stuff

  • @tnhl77 i watch anti war stuff too, and who gives a shit if people judge you for it as long as its what you want to do

  • to thing that well toghter

  • Thanks for this, it's amazing, it fits so well, btw, I love Hugh Laurie, :))

  • this is probably the best fan vid ive EVER seen such a great song that works REALLY well with this show and combining 2 of the best shows in TV history well done :D

  • This was a great video. The last shot fit perfectly.

  • Nicely done!

  • Dr. House is Hawkeye Pierce without the preachy bullshit and phony moral posturing... .... what a great character

  • They're both against the grain of their times. House's hard-hitting personality is completely against the preachy, touchy-feely attitude of modern TV. Hawkeye Pierce was preachy in a time when the norm was the opposite. Watch, every show is going to go back to hard-hitting because of House, just like everything wen to preachy because of MASH.

  • @paradigmstudiosca Actually House IS "touchy feely" similarly to modern tv. However, it is unique because it's about a doctor who's ONE goal is to have a correct diagnosis that will allow his patient to live. This is different from other doctors and medical shows because most doctors may get to know their patient and feel sorry for them, but only House has ever tried EVERYTHING(at the cost of everything to him) to make sure his patient lives, even though he doesn't care about the patient.

  • What episode is it where house is in the bed?

  • now this good doc house and this make great combolw

  • now this great

  • nice vid ^o^

    0:45 : 'blood' LoL

  • its not painless, the point of the song is that it is a way to escape the pains in your life. i think...

  • Awesome video =) Congrats!

  • In order for it not to be painless - be sure to die immediately on the first try!..:D good luck!! MORONS

  • House is actually more Hawkeye then Alan Alda was, House is closer to how Sutherland played Hawkeye, which is cooler anyway..

  • Not cool house is not suicidal he is AWESOME!!!

  • Suicide is not like these movies made in Hollywood, Suicide is very painful!

  • Let me clarify something:

    House isn't suicidal.

He's curious, he's willing to risk himself in certain situations.

And he likes to get high on vicodin.

  • @PrankerDemon he's taking the meds to kill that pain, hes addicted to the vicodin i dont think that in a ste of pain one can have a pleasant loving life. Cant think/ act nor blend with othrs or gt into relationships cz the pain makes him rude he lack emphaphy.imo he may be thinking about suicide & wants to end his life..but he keep livin...he takes risks in his life because he doesnt really give a fuck about his life, and he wants to feel things...other than his pain. :D thats wat i think.

  • @bitethis47 It isn't really his pain; it's the addiction. When House has detoxed, it wasn't as much the pain of his leg as the pure desperation he had for the Vicodin. Pain doesn't make people rude, and I don't think House is that rude. He has more of a joking / smartass / prankster personality.

I agree on the not really giving a fuck about his life, but I doubt he considers suicide all that much except when he's cut off from vicodin.

  • @PrankerDemon i precised addiction above..pain dosnt make people rude??..lmao..hehe...pain makes me an asshole...when i dont have it im a peaceful person.. ur wrong man..;p..u know he has a dark side he doesnt show to people.

  • @bitethis47 That's because you're wired that way. It doesn't make me wrong. When I'm in pain, the last thing I want to do is piss people off and cause myself more pain.

  • @PrankerDemon well u are urself and im myself...what i told u is true..simply watch cartoons, then reflect reality in a way, even though they are cartoons..sometimes they do hv a moral..beauty and the beast fr instance...the beast is fkin rude character...cz it was in pain..what ive said is truer than what u said..thats one example thers a lot more. :)

  • @PrankerDemon dude, have you ever experienced chronic pain? Pain for a short period of time doesn't change your personality, but if it goes on for days you start to really not be your self and you get angry and lash out in ways that you never would if you weren't experiencing pain.

Take it from someone like me who used to experience extremely severe and complicated Migrains that would last for a week and give me only a day or two of no pain. I was really not my self when that was happening.

  • @42jemini Migraines are painful as hell. I tend to get them constantly from sleeping up to 7 hours, which I do often. However, I was raised by foster parents that didn't release their frustrations at the exact people responsible, but were snippy psychos on whoever else was around. Their arguments were simply retarded. Frankly, they still are when I have occasion to listen. That irrational "blame anyone else" behavior sucks. So no, I don't take pain out on other people, I blame who deserves it.

  • @PrankerDemon Well now I know where you are coming from at least. Yeah, your parents here are quite irrational and over the top by blaming others like this.

I have not encountered that behavior in response to pain my self, nor do I practice it. Me and most people I know who deal with chronic pain just get unpleasant to be around, snap at the smallest provolkation, and get a little overly cynical in my opinions. All things that are the complete opposite of me when I am not in pain.

  • The release of MASH was the culture's first self-realization of how depressed and cynical it was. It has formed what we see today and allowing room for characters like House to be more and more relatable.

  • very good job. My two favorite show are House MD and M*A*S*H. But, you should make a new video that includes season 4&5

  • there's a bunch of awesome stuff this past season that would go really well with this. I wonder how it would turn out once the show finishes? probably pure awesome.

  • Great work.

Although, this song if forever linked with M*A*S*H and it's REALLY strange to see it associated with anything other then M*A*S*H. I would argue about House being today's MASH.They are both brilliant shows, but I feel like they are different enough to be distinctive.

  • i saw the movie very depressing.

  • for those who are old enough to remember the movie, "Suicide" was the travelling dentist for the mash units, but the metaphor is nice lol. living is harder than dying

  • Painless was the dentist

  • depressing.

  • House + Mash -> nice combo.. Suicide is not painless btw!

  • Well, that was depressing.

Really, really well done though and different than any of the other 'House' fanvids I've seen.

    5 stars.

  • I've always thought that House is the heart-son of Dr. Benjamin Franklin Pierce.... Well done!

  • how brilliant would it have been if Alan Alda had been cast as his father? oh well

  • @kaitlinredmond Alda isn't threatening enough to be his father. They needed a big, intimidating tough guy.

  • @KatrinaHawke probavly true Hawkeye is the god doctor andhouse is like an aprentice of a god doctor

  • Great clips and terrific concept. I've always liked this song and coupled with the clips, it's an excellent job.

  • Very poignant. Great selection of clips.

  • 25 years later, this song is still apropros for House. Great job and nice selection of music and video to accompany it.

  • Wow... what a great concept, I'm really pissed that I didn't think of it... nicely done!!
