I really love this music, makes so much senses, there is a lesson many people don't want the world to know about. Opium is televised.
Sadly this great voice, leaved this world physically but the voice in itself will remain forever.
Here in Portugal there is the same problem the only metal bands we see in stores are the commercial ones, like metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and several other in thrash. Threshold the major doesn't even had heard about sadly
@shirtgod Got some killer news mate - Vanden Plas and Threshold are both headlining the 3 day prog/symphonic metal Fused Festival in the UK!!!!! April 1st-3rd - already ordered ticket - need to be fast though as only holds 400 - should be ace!!
@shirtgod WoW - DT, Vanden Plas and Porcupine Tree!!! 3 of my favourite prog bands!! Recently discovered Vanden Plas (Seraphic Clockwork is my album of the year!!) and now Threshold (from the UK no less - why haven't I heard of these guys before??? - love Dead Reckoning and now Subsurface - what a brilliant band!!)
As you have such good taste in music any other bands that have fallen under the radar that I should know about?? Cheers
@shirtgod dude, i got to see porcupine tree live on their Incident tour, None of my buddies would go so I went by myself, it was easily the best live performance I've ever seen! i like suggesting music for people to check out, so here are a few bands : Circus Maximus ( they have some really cool stuff ), Opeth ( I like Watershed the best ), and Mastodon (Crack the Skye, but all their albums are pretty good ).
Check out some Glass Hammer, Phideaux, Circus Maximus, Riverside, Royal Hunt, Andromeda, Conception, Tomorrow's Eve, and so many more so a wide variety of sounds
There is not a band there thats not great , my favorite being Glass Hammer. There new album 3 cheers for the broken hearted is possibly there best album.
HEY you sent me a email via youtube last year decided to check some bands out and omg you are brill so far i have only checked out the ones you highlighted with a * but yea riverside and threshold i like so far thank you so much do you know any bands that sound simiular to a band called frost ?
You can try bands like The Magic Pie, Flower Kings, Porcupine Tree, Brother Ape, Camel (70s band but if you havent heard them you should), Flamborough Head - maybe, Forgotten Suns, Unitopia for starters
@howdyfeller I agree with majority of them, some I don't know and I have to check them. You can join there easily Amaseffer, joining the progressive sound with a story, recreating sounds in it. Especially Birth of Deliverance or Midian, even Burning Bush
ive been meaning to listen to these guys for a while now, it reallly sucks that you cant get any good progressive metal albums in any stores where im from, which is Northern Ireland, bt ive listened to nearly every Threshold song within the past day, and i have one word, wow..
Are you saying no stores in Northern Ireland, sells progressive metal albums? That's just too bad, mate. Maybe you should take a trip over to Great Britain, and check out some stores there?
@maddearth Dude I live in the states and we get no good shows here at all !!!!!!!! It's sad... The music of the world is not heard like it should be.And we have the same problem with our Record stores here.
@maddearth cant get them in many areas, The USA is just as bad. The corrupt music industry is to blame. They only promote what they control. Sad but true. My take is, AVOID all commercial music, band that give in and sell out AMEM METALLICA we can just stop giving in and find these bands that actually care and stick to their art.
The only way to bring down this corrupt industry is to support all of these REAL artists and ditch the garbage
Because after their album Dead Reckoning it was one of the year 2007 best album, and they started getting more popularly, and that's kind of pushed Mac away from his family. At the time on Critical Mass and Subsurface they were quite unknown. And he could spend time with his family too. After Dead Reckoning he always have to pick the band over his family. That's why he left the band. But still, it's too bad!
I love the intro!

They never will as long as coporations and record companies control the music that is heard by the masses.
Another corrupt industry, the mainstream commercial music industry

It's such a pity Mac left the band after Dead Reckoning...awesome vocalist.

Best progressive metal band ever!
But sadly I THINK (!!!) their last album was a shame... its not that progressive anymore!
i like their old stuff much better! :)

I think I like Subsurface best of all their album, many pretty good songs there.
Effendi93 3 years ago
Agreed. The best songs are on Subsurface - atleast in my opinion.
Too bad Mac(the vocalist) left the band.
WarlordXVII 3 years ago
Yeah I agree, too bad he left the band, but actually for a good reason (I don't know if you know it or not).
Effendi93 3 years ago
To be with his wife or something - I don't quite remember.
