Had this same noise for years when I was a kid. It was caused by a spark gap in the home oil burner. It can be easily found with an AM radio, but tough to clean up.
Power company wire/insulator sparking.
Generic imported switchmode power supply.
Fluorescent lights.
Street light with nearly burned out bulb.

can you recomend an antenna for the 706 MKIIG
im short on space (can just get a 60 foot wire in the yard but i think thats too short) and the neighbors dont want to see a mast.
