Sadly, Gaddafi, corruption and violence are inseperable. Western interests have been served all along under Gaddafi's rule. After all, Gaddafi is a product of the West. Either way, the sacrifice they made resulted in rapid military and political defections out of sheer shock at the level of aggression Gaddafi authorised to muffle the Feb protests. The West could've done an Iran, Bahrain or Syria (i.e. F*ck all). Libya's relative tiny population & vast Oil secured a return on the west's investment which gave way to the UNSC resolution.

The west have milked it all along with only Gaddafi to share its revenue with, which he spent the majority of on Russian & Chinese weapons now being used to kill the entire population that opposes him.
