  • i can understand the last sigh after the introduction you gaven about those situations in arizona , i have lived in egypt some time like that and know those kind of ppl who have no mercy or dignity in their heart ,, i heard about agreements done between US and mexico and hope it help dealing with this issue because who lived it and knows how much it cause stress and anexiety to its ppl

  • @msisemore71 You are right with the concern. If starting an IV, then the person should know what they are doing. Fortunately, it's hard to get an air embolus on the venous side, but possible if the entire tubing is not primed (filled with IV fluid). I would like to suggest that anyone interested in this level of invasive care attend a basic EMT class.

  • great stuff, thanks

  • Excellent Video Doc.

Please thank your staff for us, on the great job.

    Big thumbs up!

  • Another great video thank you....

  • The IV fluid is typically sterile 0.9% Normal saline. To replenish this type of fluid requires the ability to triple distill water in a sterile setting, add the amount of NaCl (without contamination in it), and package it in a way that maintains the sterile setting. This is why many people away from advanced medical care die of diarrhea/dehydration. It is not feasible to home brew IV fluid. Oral rehydration is your next best option (see previous video for that one). Great question.

  • @SurvivalMedicine in a dehydration/survival situation I would make a "clean water" solution with electrolytes and give orally (a small packet of gateraid or other such isn't hard to carry in a kit) this is low risk and doesn't require skill. iv re-hydration requires advanced skills to insert because of low blood volume collapsing veins. in my opinion field iv stick training should be for drugs and blood loss. for trauma there are iv fluids that draw fluid from tissues to "multiply" its volume

  • Good vid,

Say a person has a few IV kits, whatever that may contain, and they run through the fluid. What type of stuff would go in to replenish it?

This is for the guys out in the dirt that have no resupply option, like HOSSUSMC .

It would go for the rest of us , too that have little or no access to med supplies besides the Rite Aid..once thats gone..we are screwed.
