@chipwaver I am European (British) and I own a C64. Randomly browsing through videos made me decide on retro computing as subject of the year. I will have my C64C when Christmas comes. I will be writing a demo for the C-64C when I'm twenty. Excuse any typing mistakes, I'm eating my breakfast.
@maiki60fps@maiki60fps it's true. But it really got super famous along with C64. At least here in Europe the users and future owners declined the new C64C Design, they bought the old designed C64 as long as stocks did last... and even till today no one really thinks about the C64C as someone mentions the C64 they all (we all) have got the image of this wonderful old (VIC) Design! It's such a unique and loved Design, only the Mac 128k can compete with this rank!
@maiki60fps "you should have used C64C instead - the real face of Commodore 64"
Are you crazy? This IS the real face of the Commodore 64, the one that started it all. The C64C is nowhere as famous as the original one, sorry for your luck.
I kid you not, over the last 20 years or so I collected over 25 c-64's...10 c-128's...a couple vic-20's and dozens of 1581's and 1541's..plus all kinds of aftermarket drives and expansion modules. Then last year, I had to move into a smaller house, so guess what happened? It all went into a dumpster. Half of the stuff was like new, even had original boxes and manuals. I thought about selling it on Ebay, but I knew I wouldn't get much and the shipping would be too high. It really sucked.
omg man you coudnt find a place for those...i would have taken em plus, you can find new ones or use a c64 emulator, i have emulators for everything...c64 nes, sega mega drive, snes ps ps2 xbox!
There has never been a computer since the 64 that has lasted for so long without serious upgrades...this machine, in its original, un-upgraded state, remained on the market for ten years. How many other computers can pull that off?
and it was probably 'discontinued' because Commodore was planning on filing for bankruptcy, even though the new A1200's came out a year before and people were lined up to buy them, Commodore was not keeping up with the demand. it was a travesty
I believe it would have sold longer with adjusted pricing &downsizing the drive BECAUSE it is Easy&great for young children to LEARN computers, programming, & Play on, compared to Game consoles or PCs!!
that´s so damn true! My very last one was a CD32, it had so much multimedia potential long before the competitors, good programming could have keept alive that platform till end of the 90ies! And what happened...
Wonderful Video! The Commodore machines such as the 64 & Amiga were THE best and nothing can ever take their place! The time of computing spirit and software innovation are well and truly gone other than in the Demo Scene where the spirit still lives on :)
Have you had one with a silver-label ? If so it must have been on of the very first machines, from very first production-row, quite rare then, and even more nowadays!
If have posted a NEW Version of that Video, with better image quality, it´s called "1982 Commodore 64 Close up of a Legend (final Version). I will probably delete that old Version that you are watching right now, take a look at the new version, have fun!
I stull have a very soft spot for the C64 and in its time it was much better than the pretentious trash IBM came up with in 1983, the PCjr, with deliberately built defects and shortcomings, so that you needed to buy a lot of very expensive upgrades. Yes, the C64 was one of the best in its era.
sweet memories!...wow flashback!...lol
