eh, 9.25:1, hydraulic cam, eh, who gives a shit. Put the mechanical mushroom tappet cam back in, put the 12.5:1 pistons back in and blow it to hell and back once a week.
The 1964 light weight hemi's had 2 headlights not 4. The real race lightweights weighed about 3200 to 3250 pounds. I think this one weighs more than that.
The 64 Race hemi had about 575 Gross Horsepower 100% stock.
519 HP ???? is this measured at the wheel? I wonder if it's really 426 Cubic inch or a bored/stroker block?
@summitdrinker ....you have to remember that he is using 9.5 to 1 compression and not the 12 to 1 compression and he is also going without the solid lifters....and it is not the original engine but a new block with period correct heads.....still a real nice car.....
my father took delivery of a 1966 "hemi" sattelite,,,one of the few "street hemi"s to be seen around the tri-state area ...w.v.a -ohio- and kentucky ...took it to riverside drag strip in southpoint ohio ,,, cheater slicks and a helmet put us in the money first night ....i was 6 and unfortunately if this shithead president with his band of merry puppets continue ....my grandson will never experience lifes simple pleasures such as those .....god bless the tea party movement
@runalonglilone oh yes, the tea party. the party for racists, religous biggots, and zelots. Yea, that sure will ensure your son a future. Fucking idiot.
@Boredout454 Not true in the least. Because what you are asking the government to do is start enforcing christian morality as law, not something it has ever done before. If anything you are making it even less of a republic! The entire point of a republic is to keep majority from oppressing the minority, which does happen with democracies. What you suggest is to allow the christian majority to oppress all others.
@Polybun Where did I ask that? I said Tea Party, while its true most Tea Party members are Christians (not all in the slightest) its core is about restoring the Republic and returning to the Constitution and the founding Fathers. Now with that said Im sorry but you do live in a place where most laws are and where founded upon Christan morality (up until a few years ago adulatory and divorce was illegal), Im not saying return to that but dont say it never existed.
@Boredout454 and the Tea party has made it clear that it wishes to enforce christian values by law. They are the biggest driving force against gays in the mllitary and gay marriage which is simply wrong. Granted republicans have done worse, Bush sr, going so far to say that atheist can't be american citizens.
@Polybun No I do not wish to oppress the minority but I will not appologize for being in the majority or be ashamed of it or have some one shame me for it. In other nations which are not or where not originally Christian nations you either can not worship another religion and are oppressed or cant worship at all aka oppressed. Most (not all)of the Founding Fathers where Christians and sects of that faith that did not get along but wanted choice and freedom for all.Read there own words.
@Polybun Most Left Wingers talk about Tea Parties, Christians, Right Wingers and say they oppress or are ignorant, judgmental, but many of that Left side has become what they say they hate. And theyre violent about it.
There were rubber vent tubes from the battery cells to vent hydrogen gas from the trunk. If the battery is up front it gets ventilated, but not in the trunk.
You can't seriously say that taking 3.25 points of compression out of that engine and losing the stock solid lifter cam did not cost any power. Besides the very few real race Hemi engines sold like this made considerably more than his 519 horsepower.
The Hemi's from 1955-1959 were each dyno tuned and ran to make sure they each made more then the hp that they said they would before each car was sold. So each engine had several miles on it to begin with. Later the 63 1/2-71 Hemi engines made much much more HP and torque then they said. The race Hemi would run with about 13.1 compression the street would run with 11.5-12.1 depending on the year. The average street hemi made 500-580hp. The average track hemi made 620-700hp. STOCK
@Boredout454 no idea here what you're talking about. the first generation Hemi motors from Chrysler were 1951-58 and appeared in imperials, chryslers, desotos, and dodges. but the dode motor was unique onto itself. NONE of these motors were ever "dyno-tuned" or run-in before being installed in production factory cars. NONE of the 426 Hemi second gen. motors were either. you are however pretty close on HP ratings for the 426 Hemi.
@midatlanticcycle It should be noted that a few cars were dyno tuned at the dealership level. Grand Spalding Dodge offered it as a service on some cars, and threw it in on some other models.
@Boredout454 They were ran in, but not tuned. They were only run long enough to break in the cam and that was it. It wasn't really a dyno, just a test stand. No load was placed on those enignes. They just winged it up to about 2500rpm for about 15 minutes and shut it down.
Now some production samples were taken in and full tested, but occurred several times per day and those engines were typically ran to destruction.
@midatlanticcycle Lol they had engine dyno's my friend in 1958. I remember an interview with the original design team of the Gen I Hemi talking about dyno'ing every Hemi that left the factory which is something that caused the downfall of the first Gen because the costs was just too much, they where just breaking even with the Hemi the first time around.
@Boredout454 just breaking even with the original hemi? where the hell do you come up with this crap, "my friend"? chrysler corp did their R&D on hemispherical combustion chambers and dual rocker-arm configurations in the late 30's and brought it to market for chrysler, imperial, and desoto in the fall of 50 for the 51 model year. this motor in various imperial, chrysler, desoto and dodge configurations existed thru the end of the 58 model year and the profit was in the millions.
Not bad, rare you see anything like this with muscle under the hood on the streets. Most i've seen in real life were crap box Dodge Polara & Plymouth Valiants rusting away Downtown. Push button and old school batteries sux
i heard the t bolts were tough...but i never saw one.here at kingsport and bristol in the 60s.. hemis ruled.....same ol story on the fords in the 60s and 70s factory boys...no average guys....who ran a ford back then?? lol

This is a great car. But...Mucous1...the 64 thunderbolts crushed the mopars and chevys at NHRA racing in the day. I don't know where all this ford beating took place, but it wasn't at the drag strip in the 60's. I had a 62 plymouth Savoy with a wedge 413, and it came with a "warranty delete" notice on the inside of the glovebox door. No less a "factory race car" than a T-bolt. Less of them existed, too. In 62 they were unbeatable. 409 my butt.
Hey Mocus........wotz a "poltroon?" A high -end moron? One who still deserves a wedgie even as an adult? One who deserves a little "gym locker detention" even as an adult? Gimme five bro...
yes, but the Thunderbolt wasn't a factory available car.....the T-Bolt was a specially designed race car.....these Mopars would blow the doors off of your Fords of the time......I must be a real 'knobshine", though......what kind of a poltroon says Knobshine?
Yes, this guy is severely knowledgable. the 64 Thunderbolt "better just stay home", being almost 300lbs lighter and well over 500bhp. No wonder these cars never get remembered. Titilating cars, but their owners are knobshines.

Also in 1964 you could order the hemi with single 4 barrel carb. It was the Nascar setup. These maybe the some of the rarest hemi cars ever.

@mocus1 also, placing the battery in the trunk placed another 20 lbs. over the right rear wheel to push the wheel on the road.
mocus1 1 year ago
Why does it have tubes going out from the battery? Is the battery supercharged too :D?
Henzzman 2 years ago
@Henzzman It's to vent they hydrogen gas generated by a lead acid battery during operation. If left to collect in the trunk it could cause a fire.
