The web browser on this phone, was it acceptable back in 2008? .. Just curious, because after using the browser for many months on my Bold 9900 and then watching this, the difference is incredible. Thank gawd for amazing developers.

This phone does look gorgeous. So well made, even though quite chunky :)

Sorry bud but if you're going to use this phone to read your a website and take photos of your dog, this device wasn't designed for you or your kids, it's a business phone, pure and simple, go buy an Iphone.

Me too. I use my droid incredible now on wifi. I had to scoop me up a 9650 off ebay. I love it but I kinda prefer OS 5.0.. Mine was already loaded with OS6....it has cool features but I remember liking my 8530 on OS5....it was way snappier, seemed quicker... I dont care about fancy animations!...I got a droid for that! Im thinking about downgrading it to 0S5

@dylancohen10 i really think you are over paying for such an older blackberry...i would recomend the bold 9700, or 9650 with the new technology. but thats your choice..but if you still want the 9000 you are deff. over paying
@xfaneex get the new one...i know some people might like this one more than the new bold coz of its stylish design and the qwerty keyboard which is easy to type with and all but i'm pretty sure you'll prefer the new one once you get it...plus the new optical trackpad makes it much more easier to scroll with especially when in browsing...much more new features and stuff!!

Not to mention the phone features which are so overlooked nowadays on a cell phone. Just the ease of one touch calling from the qwerty pad.... so worth the browser pain!

@parisbirrdy buy a HTC phone if u want a good browser.. blackberry is exseptionally good on typing and email, easy to use.. tons of aplications, but HTC is a much better device.. then u got the hd2 killer on browsing, and touch pro 2 on querty
It's similar to it but it's not. The opera mini is great on the phones. You install it for free. You can zoom in on pictures and see them in clear quality.
excuse me??? brushed aluminum metal frame? that is plastic my uneducated friend, which also happens to scratch very easily after a week of use. also the memory card door is not a 'metal door', it's plastic, which happens to break off easily. the new Nokia E72 beats this thing by miles except for the screen. i recommend you do a much better research before you do a review, because this one is very badly researched and lousy.

Iphone is good. Had one and gave it to the wife. Got a blackberry. Same specs apart from touch screen which im not too fussy about. I would go for a BB. Get the apps rolling and its so much smarter. Everyone now has a Iphone.

Has anyone found a video of the updated OS. I had a bold at the first of the year but the browser was so awful that I traded it for a iPhone 3G. BB does a lot of things way better than the iPhone, as the reverse is true also. I also had problems syncing the Bold to my Apple computer. Never got the video to link even with the software BB recommended.

Also, you can increase the default font size so you dont have to keep zooming in. You can view youtube and it has the same pixel count as the iphone even with a smaller screen which makes it look amazing.
Bottom line, if all you want is to surf the net, play games get the iphone.
If you email like crazy, messaging, text heavy typing, get the bold.
I totally agree with you on that one, even though i give the iPhone the slight edge because of the above and the great media experience (iPod) and that works for me...

I'm on AT&T. I'm pretty sure AT&T is just really greedy with their phones. They probably made blackberry agree to keep the bold on their service only. It sucks, I wish you could buy any phone and use it on any service... unfortunately that's not the way the world works...
You can use an unlocked phone with any carrier which supports gsm, all you have to do is insert the SIM card into the new unlocked phone, BUT you have to pay the full price of the phone which is over $600(for the Bold).
On the other hand, when you purchase the phone new WITH a contract, you'll pay about $300 after mail-in rebate.
I just paid $150 on Amazon with a 2 year contract after rebates. Although you can find it free, those ones require a $79-$99 monthly plan (not including txting/browsing) I don't need all those minutes. The one major thing that sold me when comparing Bold to Iphone was, no copy and paste on Iphone (still?!?) along with it doesn't record video. There are enough features and reasons after 5 hours of reading comparisions I picked the Bold.
Mine cannot access the internet as it has no browser icon, it also cannot access the maps icon (even though it is there), a message pops up saying it is disabled by the IT policy, this is the same story when i try to follow the links through my emails to the internet.
In the security settings it says that the IT policy is 'NO MAPS and NO BROWSER' .

Yes you definitely need a data plan. I got mine 2 weeks ago and have just spent most of the day today on the phone to my service provider trying to set up a data plan just so that I can use wifi, email, messenger etc.....quite annoying really!

yes you can change it the sim card is under the battery to get to it you got to take off your backdoor. and take out the battery and you should see the slot. but it only works with a att sim card if its unlocked you can pretty much use it on any network worldwide

If you are having trouble clicking a link from the browser, click on bb menu then scroll to grab link and click trackball. No problem.

personally 8250 is entry model,no 3G, its simply bad.
Bold is better, but nothing special.
Me advice take Nokia E63, E71 or E72 instead.I have E63, just simply perfect.

Free with Wi-Fi but as soon as you use the carrier network to get online you'll be charged and heavily so.
Whilst optional, It's pretty much read that you need a data plan to fully enjoy a Blackberry.

Scrolling can sometimes be inexact on a browser. You sometimes tend to have trouble zeroing in on that link you want to click on.

1) you can zoom in as much as you want it may take some time but the other features of the phone make it worth it
2) yes even though when scrolling over a link the hand doesnt appear you can still click the links

i have a first gen iphone ...i love it but the external sound sucks big time..anybody knows about the external sound quality for the bold....cause if it sounds good ..im buying it today....

i'm also 13 like you,and..my friends have this phone. i think its great. You can twitter on it and upload pics and also .. bold has a nice keyboard which can type sms very quickly! apps like facebook is also available to update ppl on current things u're doing...so in conclusion, blackberry bold is quite a wonderful phone.

No, he is on a WiFi connections as he has said before. And the Blacbkerry Bold is running the fastest moblie processor or the market right now (for a cell phone anyways.)

I'm on AT&T. I'm pretty sure AT&T is just really greedy with their phones. They probably made blackberry agree to keep the bold on their service only. It sucks, I wish you could buy any phone and use it on any service... unfortunately that's not the way the world works...

you can use an unlocked phone with other gsm carriers such as t-mobile.

You can use an unlocked phone with any carrier which supports gsm, all you have to do is insert the SIM card into the new unlocked phone, BUT you have to pay the full price of the phone which is over $600(for the Bold).
On the other hand, when you purchase the phone new WITH a contract, you'll pay about $300 after mail-in rebate.

I just paid $150 on Amazon with a 2 year contract after rebates. Although you can find it free, those ones require a $79-$99 monthly plan (not including txting/browsing) I don't need all those minutes. The one major thing that sold me when comparing Bold to Iphone was, no copy and paste on Iphone (still?!?) along with it doesn't record video. There are enough features and reasons after 5 hours of reading comparisions I picked the Bold.

People have told me that it may be my sim card being too old, i told this to the vodafone people in the shop and they said it wasnt that.
Ive also restored the settings and ticked the delete third party option with no luck.
And i am on a contract with the bold tool.

did you get a data plan? that might be it. because you can't use wifi or 3g without a data plan.

Im just wondering if anyone can help me-
Mine cannot access the internet as it has no browser icon, it also cannot access the maps icon (even though it is there), a message pops up saying it is disabled by the IT policy, this is the same story when i try to follow the links through my emails to the internet.
In the security settings it says that the IT policy is 'NO MAPS and NO BROWSER' .

Does wifi on Bold actually require a data plan??? I am with rogers and thats what they are telling me!! Also is there a way to access broswer without the data plan.

Yes you definitely need a data plan. I got mine 2 weeks ago and have just spent most of the day today on the phone to my service provider trying to set up a data plan just so that I can use wifi, email, messenger etc.....quite annoying really!

hey thnx for replying but unfortunately wifi actually doesn't require a data plan... i was misinformed!!! The only advantage of data plan is when u need 2 go online and no wifi access is available; or u wanna use application that uses data i.e. maps, msn, facebook, etc

yes you can change it the sim card is under the battery to get to it you got to take off your backdoor. and take out the battery and you should see the slot. but it only works with a att sim card if its unlocked you can pretty much use it on any network worldwide
