  • some really good stuff here

  • VERY NICE and SMART!!!

    1. Solar generator use accumulate air presser in ballon!

    2. Air presser engin connect with electric generator for using energy

  • im sorry but how does this help me when i pull pallets of consumer goods around at the target store?

  • Cool

  • The concept is sound. I believe if we try it can become a reality. How long have you allowed you steam engine to go undisrupted?

  • Cool stuff! Hook up a car altinator.

  • @robcas631 if its got enough torque to turn a car altenator, for some reason i doubt it.

  • excape

  • One thing I'd like to know is what kind of efficiency are you getting? How big is your solar collector? How big would a collector need to be to run a generator for a certain number of households. Stuff like that. Also, how would we solve the problem of the Sun not shining 24/7. But I think this is really a cool idea and demonstration.

  • lovely idea now make a small steam driven turbine which would be way more efficient in turning an axle to make electric power.

  • Good effort but Force = mass x acceleration. You have acceleration but little mass. I recon the will not have enough force to generate any good usable energy. Scale it up.

  • ouuuuuuuuuuuuch

    !

  • this is really cool! I think this could be used in some of the poorest nations in the world. Simple materials cheap durable and easy to maintain. Plus the act of creating steam can purify the water. You could use it to turn river water into clean drinking water. The energy created could be used to pump the water to a village. Great idea! You should get this out to the world.

  • gay

  • One needs to consider what Dan is showing us here. The concept

that steam generated by the Sun can be used to power a motor to

produce a useable energy source. Albeit the generator is practically

palm sized the concept is there to be transferred to a larger scale

if the need and the desire were present to do so.

  • put the camera under the lens to see how bright it is :D

  • @kiithsjet I want to see a working concept, and watch who your calling an idiot. All my models on youtube work and proven, what about yours

  • @kiithsjet Why don't you explain it to all of us Idiots Einstein.

  • @kiithsjet Fuck off troll

  • no life

  • I have yet to see ANY of your engines do any work

  • Lets see something like this spinning an altenator that is charging a car battery.

  • GREAT WORK!. BUT SIR PLEASE UPLOAD A VIDEO SHOWING THE WHOLE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS ENGINE

  • Anyone ever build a solar Stanley Steamer? :D

  • attatch it to a motor and you can make dc electricity

  • @mathscirocks - solar cells are way more energy efficient.

  • in future ve will use this system for have some electric energy

  • You pay little attention to the heat source which is the miracle of the thing that solar lens would not be available in olden times is it plastic or glass?????

  • add a load and see what happens...

  • Can I circumvent the steam engine all together by pushing the steam through a Pelton wheel? I want to run a 2400 watt generator. Generator is currently driven by a 5 H.P B&S gasoline engine that produces 7.66 torque ft. lbs @ 3000 rpms. Can we get steam from a steam hose sprayed into a Pelton wheel that can replicate the numbers from the 5 HP motor?.

  • @coldwarvet75 You would need a lens probably 30'x30' and a high quality mini turbine and it probably won't work because the steam is too wet. Better to just buy the solar panels or gasify firewood into the generator.

  • How much torque does it generate, and have you tried turning a gen with it? Could i build a bigger one and it still run on solar? Thanks in advance

  • shame u cant runa big engine on solar power

  • *boom* ^^

  • Hello

And you thought using a panel of solar collectors to direct light is not on the heater and the panel type of solar collector efficiency will be higher than you can even generate energy

  • Just Imagine What Can You Launch With This!

  • Brilliant. There doesn't seem to be much science here though... Perhaps coupling it to some kind of generator and attempting to measure the power output would be somewhat more useful than poking it with a f***ing stick? No?

  • why dont they just make something that is usefull, make serieus electricity with this motor, and show that. And prove it is usefull..

  • why dont you put a fan blade or generator on the other side of that fly wheel so that we can see what kinda load that little engine will produce??.

  • Oil?? Oil!! Oil??

...and the Sun is just sitting there.

  • Steam engines use cylinder oil in the cylinder it takes them awhile to wear out unless u dont oil them

  • a do steam or sterling engines need lubrication? seems like they would ware out fast

  • Someone should tell Mike Brown to watch this video - he doesn't believe a steam engine can be successfully be powered from a steam boiler. How many watts would that engine produce?

  • so whats the horse power?

  • That little steam engine works really well on that amount of steam! Very cool!

  • Looks like you hurt your fingers there lol.

  • wow that was a nice, thought out styrafoam stopper lol

  • what is the output of power/efficience compared to solarcell technology ?

  • Please watch:

World's Greatest Amount of Compression Ratio Engine

  • How long will it run like that?

  • @snidelywhiplash

Till the sun goes down ....

  • If your wheel has no torque than its useless...

  • Please watch:

World's Greatest Amount of Compression Ratio Engine

  • Very cool, When do you think you will make it do some work?

  • Surely this is more efficient than solar panels?

  • @ThomasandFriends1100 What I don't understand is where the problem is diverting some of the power from the generator to run a small programmable circuit board/motor to track the sun's movement and turn to stay with it.

  • i m a slut bitch ho

  • now hook that up to a pulley some ballast to keep the thing going a dynamo and ya got a good generator for where the sun always shines.

  • The proof of concept is "almost there" but surely a little extra effort to;

    1 Steady the camera.

2 Show us more of the steam generation set-up.

3 Attach an RPM readout & steam pressure gauge

4 Attach some load that demonstrates some useful work can be accomplished.

5 Briefly explain the materials used, machining accuracy etc, people are really interested in the details.

    6 Indicate the next development.

And of course many thanks for an entertaining video.

  • you need to hook up an alternator to this!

  • Where do you get a steam engine?

  • @enticed2zeitgeist It's from a toy . I got one when I was a kid

  • great video i think the systems for transformate solar energy into a termic energy are practics but not to electric energy

  • Photo voltaic cells are shit in efficiency compared to the solar steam engine.

  • @Vim281 I was thinking the same thing. I am now leaning toward steam power.

  • Id recommend getting a revolution governor for that engine if you actually want to use the engine for anything. A displacement oiler probably wouldn't hurt either.

Good job with the engine though. And best of luck should you attempt to use it.

  • this thing is beautiful! are they difficult for the average person to make? how long will that little thing run for? this is genius!

  • @GodlessMartyr666 Or your face off...

  • I thought of and built a better one of these when I was 20 back in 2004, I thought of the idea while working at a shop that repaired electromagnets and solar panels. Let's collaborate and start a company to change the world.

  • wow!

  • @foreverthewho lol sacrifice a finger or two

  • @foreverthewho Simple just put a shade over the parabolic tube

  • @foreverthewho turn off the sun

  • Швейная машинка :D

  • Nice video, Check out my videos about Home Wind and Solar system intalling on the Rooftop. On Earth Day I won a green design contest for my home energy system the RoofMill. Have a look at my home wind turbine videos of installing and running Hybrid Energy Systems. Friends and Subscribers Wanted. Have a good day , Thanks, Sam

  • put some synthetic gear grease in that thing Man!!

  • pressure leak? why not use teflon tape?

  • is that thing meant to go that fast

  • No SUn - no POWER.

I want you to make it bigger! mutch bigger

  • really impresed wit dis fukn vid,how easy would it be 2 keep mirror dome thingy concentering optimim levels on pipe using a guiding system for constant efficiency, den use it as a charging unit using alternator or better more eficient systems, hey cool work gonna luk 4 more vids rite now

  • Put a generator on it , a meter and some load, and let's see what that little baby can do!!

  • forgive me for sounding ignorant but ive seen a few videos now of engines which run off solar power. the question on my mind is, can they actually power anything worthwhile? i understand it is pretty cool that you have a small engine which will run off the sun but it would be even better if it powered something

  • @uponmysoapbox1 If you use solar panels, and the latest in solar engines you can power a multitude of things. How practical they are? That is yet to be determined.

  • You can put a band pulley to a motor generator or those who have remote control cars, battery and you can put an LED or bulb 3v for you to emit electricity

  • this is what they used to drill your teeth in 1850!

  • I like the Video

    Use a marker not tape

What is the PSI and temp?

  • dont listen to those people all they can do is harnes the batteries power into thier remote controll while they sit on thier fat ass, while you in the other hand probably make some mor emoney off the clicks and educate people on how solar energy works and all they do is try to sound arogant and stupid.

  • Congrats. You've spent $500 to make a 1/50th of a horsepower

engine that only works when the sun is out.

  • @4freespeech

With your kind of thinking, we'd still be on horseback with astronomical infant mortality rates. It's called prototyping, nitwit.

  • @ka5btr that sounds rather nice :) if i could make the entire world go back to like that even if it cost my life i would. we have F*cked it up so bad and we are still doing it.

  • wow

it wud suck if a bird pooped on tht lens !!!

  • How much power (Watts) can it generate under load, more or less?

  • i need a steam engine that will turn a 12 V permanent magnet generator used in windmills. can this do? would you please advise. I have no experience with steam engine.but it is ideal in remove area a travel too. please advise.

  • what sort of torque r we talking here

  • amazing!

  • Where do you get the parts for this?

  • How much money do you make out of these videos?

  • @acerkiwi A few extra dollars a day. Pays the internet bill:-)

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE great job man for real i wouldnt doubt it if you ended up making the first h20 steam fuled go cart for the kidos man that would be awsone.keep going bro, dont listen to the bad commenets just grumpy ass people with no brain and obviously not a tool in thier home or any handy man skills such as yours, your going to have doors open for you. youll see, i wouldnt doubt if the discovery channel would enjoy your videos and give you a 30 minute show, im serious.

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE my roof is like 45sq meters abot how many solar apanels do you need for this size and if my monthly consumption of electricity is around 1500khw how many solar panels do i need, i timed my meter and it takes like 20 seconds to go one full spin, i dont know what that means but

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE hey you know what ya should do get a oil stone ring and sharpen some chisels and a belt sander and sand something... very impressed dude

  • @acerkiwi Lol hes making a living off it.

  • @acerkiwi how do you make money out of the videos? is that possible?

  • how many wats this motor generates?

  • how does this translate if you were to hook up an alternator and charge a battery for stored power for home consumption?more than say a solar panel?same?would this be better than a home wind turbine?would this be a quicker way to store energy?

  • I grew up around cars, so I know the gas engines pretty good, I became interested in steam engines and other alternative type engines a few yrs ago, but never had the time to study them. I cannot, watching this video see how you have it set up. Is there more info on it? I want to understand how this works.

  • Was waitin for your wife to come out. No stars!

  • The reflector tape is too big, and it should be straight at least 3 mm width only! To have accurate RPM reading.

  • nice:)

  • It's clear that is a Welesco engine, but how long did you hold that lens in such a big tube for generating this amount of vapor ? did you helped this with any other source ?

With an Ballon like lab. glass, the heat transfer could be much faster and with only half the inner part painted black, would be great seeing that !

Just thoughts, I'm not a green tech lover, but keep up the good work. it's good to see ideas shared, Good ideas are shared ideas !

    Amaral

  • wonderful

  • the steam engine is not the most efficient way to get power from the sun if you do your research a parabolic solar dish which in already in use in several sun farms has the highest sun to grid power ratio certified the the good people at guiness world records green power hippies please don't display stupid technology to others that you think is amazing its already been done and been proven less efficient

  • @ErocHardcorps

well fine ofcourse there are more efficient means for everything but you are talking as if hes just wasted alot of energy and resources in making and running this. Its a harmless steam motor thats cheap and reliable and ur slagging it off like its using 4 gallons of fuel a minute

  • i Would like to know more information in how to get acess to reflective material for making a termo solar panel

  • chuck on a generator on that baby! there seems to be too much steam for that little wheel :P

  • Another fascinating video,

  • Interesting can you calculate the power you're generating???....what would be more interesting would be if you could get a SMALL Steam TURBINE and calculate how much energy you can get with that

  • OK ok, I get it. It's a toy. Had one as a kid. Who doesn't want to harness solar? But DO something with it. Great, it starts and stops unlimited times, scrapes a knife blade, and resists a stick trying to stop it. And does 1700 RPM no load.

Guess I'm saying the video shows a great demo, but get's a little old just watching it being played with over and over.

I think just using a small bicycle generator, or something, to show work being done, would add a lot to this demonstration.

  • @Sneighke Agreed

  • Nice rpms but is there enough torque to spin a generator.

  • Man, I like it! I work in Small Engines (Briggs & Stratton). Connect an Alternator or Mini-Rotor from a small Generator to see how much power that will produce. You've all ready got 1700 RPMS (Idle speed on most engines) and it doesn't stop as easy as most Stirling engines. Start producing some Wattage, chief!...

  • como energia alternativa es interesante, aunque ya exista desde hace decadas. la situación es como aplicarala a algo productivo.

  • really cool

  • this may have been asked but i did nt find it, with a larger more power steam engine is it possible to run a car alternator?

  • Hey Dan, I dig your videos... Do you know how much water the system is using on an hourly basis with the engine running at full power?

  • no Safetly Valve on the boiler? very smart. *sarcasm*

  • Cool experiment.I wonder if anyone has made a larger funtioning version.Just off the top of my head, you could put some magnets on that flywheel ,add some coils and you have a solar generator.I know they have solar panels already.

  • Ok so we know about steam engines this is relatively old technology haha. can you put these mirrors to a more practical use?

  • When I first saw this engine I thought it was massive! Like 18inch flywheel

  • We really need cheap and long lasting batteries to make this stuff work. Or what if you had a giant spring under your house and you wind it up with wind and solar power when its putting out power and use the potential energy at night and low wind conditions. How big of a spring would it take? I'm not an engineer have no Idea if it's practical to do it like this. Or how about a flywhell?, a massive one that floats on magnets to reduce fristion and noise? cmon we gotta reduce oil use dramatically

  • So is this a small scale of a larger project that you intend to scale up. And does it break even or come close to producing enough energy to justify its creation. just curious.

  • I have an old weed eater engine in my basement, i might try and modify that to run on steam, not sure about the 2-stroke deisgn though, might have to add some fancy shmancy valves :)

  • @aflo661 Theres a few videos of people who converted gas engines to steam on youtube. From what i gather 2 strokes are better to use than 4, and its not overly difficult. try searching "gas to steam conversion"

  • so neet.....who needs oil....ha ha

  • Burn a tree. They're weeds, and they reproduce all by themselves, storing the sun's energy for you.

  • bigger mirror, bigger tube and bigger engine, connect to generator and battery or if u like heavy stuff cnnectit to pump and hydraulic accumulator (theyre primitive, cheap and can store lots of power) and u have free energy, buffered so 24/7 :)

  • you could use a small motor attached to the steam engine and charge 1 AA battery , lol..

  • lol? why? in fact, that's not a bad idea at all. Think about, you don't have to use current which you do have to pay for. And you can chagre your phone's battery. Ok, you can say 'it's a minor solution', but I say that's the point you can start from to go further to major applications.

  • This seems like a lot of work and a lot of effort to run that tiny little engine. A C battery could run that engine just as well.

  • good in theory but no torque. going up in scale wouldnt have the same affect.

  • There is slight torque, not enough to hold speed under load unless in is very small, and yes you are right scaling up could provide more torque given there is sufficient steam pressure.

  • A steam engine can have much HP.

    More pressure, more power...

  • You could turn this into a table saw

  • @fgnhn

I doubt there would be enough torque to cut wood :/

  • If he can make a torque converter of some sort.

  • @antecboy

would depend on the amount of steam and the weight of the fly wheel

  • @antecboy use a gear box.

  • So how many HP is that, about 0.005 horsepower?

  • I saw these guys on tv once, who put a bunch of mirrors on a hillside and hooked them up to computer to track the sun and keep them focused on one spot. It melted thick steel. It was pretty cool. Maybe you could launch a bunch up into space and focus them all on a huge boiler and it stayed on day and night. Or you could focus them on your enemies nuclear plants/bridges/capital buildings/commercial centers and destroy them.

  • With modern controls, these a fresnel lens and a steam engine could be a good alternative. Example: have a engine a bit larger then this with a fresnel lens, and a DC generator hooked up. You could power a circuit boards, solenoids, motors (pumps) the list goes on; all to make this thing run at its peak efficiency and maybe it could run as a total independent system

  • 74 more of those connect generators to all - free power 101

  • Cool, But I'd like to see you actually put this to some kind of use.

Right now all I see is a solar powered hazard to children :/

  • Why don't you put a moped automatic clucth on enf of the shaft, set it to grab at 1000 rpm and connect it to some sort of generator or end user?

  • How well does she run at night?

  • It wont with the fresnel lens

  • hi it would be possible to use the engine to run an electric generator to power an equivalent sized electric engine with lithium batteries for a car or whatever. also the solar power can be used to generate this electric power for storage when you park a car while doing errands etc. or at home in the driveway, when its sunny. so as long as there is some reasonable supply of sunny weather, one will have plenty of power for a car or truck. having two engines is initially costly but doable.

  • @videoblast it loses a few horsepower but overall not to bad

    hahah

  • @videoblast i dunno make it store half its energy during the day to have it run off it during the night?

  • @videoblast About as well as it runs when it rains.

  • @videoblast how well does your car run after peak oil?

  • @videoblast doesn't need to run at night, you use batteries that charge with solar power to supplement the need for power in cloudy spells or at night.

either ways, even if you wouldn't have batteries, if you pay less then half of your original power bill since your only using grid power at night and that's only early night since your going to eventually go to bed, when you nearly use no grid power, it's has great implications for savings on power bills.

  • Throw that thing into a bike.

  • @BigManlyMan4 I dont think it would have enough torque to move it.

  • Copper tubing is good to about 200 psi, build one,but when you put on the end caps, the trick is to cut threads on them and the pipe ,and to screw them closed before soddering them.

  • The whole thing,is a good Idea, but he needs to learn about flash boilers and injection feed pumps for the boilers,

For the steam volume to be sustained ,

the boiler must be at max temp, and have the water sprayed in to it in short bursts, by volume of steam, used. like the old stanly steam car boiler but small, and heated by sun light ,not fire.

  • Is that an old Fleishmann steam set, ,, your steam genrator would not
