I own a rifle for potentially hunting food. I have never killed a deer or any other animal with it and still refuse to kill animals unless I'm starving for food and needed to live off the land. The deer population is so high that it's unsafe to drive as drivers kill more deer than hunters. In fact, the vegetables you eat had to be protected from deer by hunting, so if you hate hunting, stop eating. Try to research a topic before you try to get in an argument about it...

@Kingcobrasaurus Last year near where I live, a community did not want an overpopulation of deer removed via hunting. They tranquilized the deer to move them to other areas. Deer can not handle that type of stress, and 40% of them died anyways. Contraceptives are effective, but are expensive and still stress the animal. Plus, I do feel some remorse for the animals I harvest. Most anti-hunters only see the asshole hunters who ruin the bunch.

@watertower7 Here in Oregon we have a month of hunting, two weeks for bow two for gun. You can only take one buck, and if you get a doe tag(which you have to enter your name into a drawing for). You can take a doe, you only get a doe tag about once every 3 years.

I own a rifle for potentially hunting food. I have never killed a deer or any other animal with it and still refuse to kill animals unless I'm starving for food and needed to live off the land. I don’t enjoy hunting animals as you can see from this video; I think this deer speaks for a lot of mistreated deer’s by hunters.

The deer population is so high that it's unsafe to drive as drivers kill more deer than hunters. In fact, the vegetables you eat had to be protected from deer by hunting, so if you hate hunting, stop eating. Try to research a topic before you try to get in an argument about it...

They've introduced contraceptive drugs to pigeons in cities and bison in Catalina Island to control the population and it's been very effective. So they should do it with every overpopulated species. No guns required.
Or they could capture deer and put them in zoos.
The worst thing about hunting is that the people who do it think it's fun. It's a sport to them. They show no remorse.

@Kingcobrasaurus Last year near where I live, a community did not want an overpopulation of deer removed via hunting. They tranquilized the deer to move them to other areas. Deer can not handle that type of stress, and 40% of them died anyways. Contraceptives are effective, but are expensive and still stress the animal. Plus, I do feel some remorse for the animals I harvest. Most anti-hunters only see the asshole hunters who ruin the bunch.

@majortuckage It's because most hunters are ethical and don't like watching an animal in pain. The deer that I KILLED this morning died quickly and I was happy about that. No sane hunter enjoys dispatching a deer after a poor shot. But Hunting is required for farming and all food. The vegetables you eat had to be protected from the constant chewing of deer somehow. Hunting is required for farming, so if you like eating you're just going to have to live with it.

In most states, there are only two weeks in which hunting is legal, and in those two weeks hunters can only take up to two deer. Poaching is what you're thinking of, and that should be illegal.

I would just like to point out (calmly) that hunters and fishermen donate to wildlife and nature preservation more than any other group in America. This is their sport and they want to maintain it by taking care of the wildlife and natural areas that they enjoy. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you use all the parts of the animal and respect life. I've never met a hunter in my life that didn't respect the animals he killed. (Often times those animals fed the family.)
