@INUIT3333 ...sadly, Taylor decided to leave the band on his own accord. Ron Wood was brought in at first to stand in as the 2nd guitarist for the 75 Tour of the Americas. The band then held rehersals for their new guitar player, but decided no one fit better than Woody. Brian Jones started the Rolling Stones with Ian Stewart, he was in the band until Jagger & Richards threw him out in 69.
@demonsbutterfly couldn't agree more it's a shame about brian jones but I love Mick Taylor I wasn't even born back then but I've found about every live rolling stones video with Taylor and he's just the man
@stableshadow: As I said in my response, I know Jagger/Richard composed the music. Taylor was an excellent guitarist who contributed to the Stones duirng this period. I never said quote "he was a major driving force". Everyone is has their own opinion.
@stableshadow: Everyone has their own opinion. What I meant was he was an excellent guitarist. This is apparent when I listen to their music from this period. I followed the Stones and know Jagger/Richard were the main song writers.
@JJones0424 There is opinion and there is fact. We actually both share the opinion that Taylor was a phenomenal presence in the band for what he provided in musicianship. However, when you say he was a major driving force in the band, that's an empirically driven statement. And you're saying it in response to his excellent contribution to this song, show and tour. But the songs for it were all Mick/Keith pretty much, and some of them in place before Taylor joined anyway. That is the fact.
@JJones0424 Taylor was in the right place at the right time. But, empirically speaking, you can't actually say he was a driving force behind the band. It's like adding turbo to a 911 Porsche. It's the 911 Porsche part that's the most important. Taylor was the turbo. Not putting him down. Love him. Love turbo. But he ain't the whole engine. Actually, that would be Charlie, especially on stage.
I agree. I never realized it but if you listen to the period when Mick Taylor was in the Stones, it was there prime period. He was definitely a steady force behind the Stones. Great guitarist.
@JJones0424 Of course, you are saying this while listening to a song that was written and composed before he joined the band. He was a force for dazzling solos, but he barely influenced their writing -- and that's why he left, because it bothered him. I love his contribution, but I do take issue with people overstating it. And I do agree that they flexed big time muscle this period. The Steelers have been back to the SB since the 1970s, but no Steelers team will ever compare to that 70s team
"Ladies and Gentlemen ...The Mick Taylor show!", re-released and re-mastered, coming to you on DVD this fall courtesy of Eagle Rock! A chance finally for the blues genius of MT, who was the catalyst musically that elevated the Stones into "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World" legend, to get his long overdue recognition from a wider audience. Just listen to this cat play on this track, or Love in Vain, or a host of others! Mind blowing creative talent and improvisational brilliance!

A silly question: was Mick Tayler the man after Brian Jones?
And what happend with Mick Taylor? Did Mick and Keith kicked him out, when Ron Wood came?
Thanks!

Mick Taylor took these songs to another level. A level that has NEVER been reached since, not even close.
