  • These videos are of no help whatsoever.......just describing all the functions is pointless. Someone needs a step by step set-up guide.

  • Is the USB port only for the iPod..?? Or can I plug in am external hard drive/thumb drive and play my videos there?

  • Just purchased this AVR love it problem I am having and it my be my own error , The tv remote turns off the AVR at the same time. Does anyone have any answers. I have a Samsung

  • Your voice reminds me of chillafrilla :P

  • Question: Can we connect a 2.1 speaker system to this receiver. I have a bose 2.1 speaker system and I bought this receiver to connect all my input devices. Having trouble figuring out the port to connect the 2.1 Bose PC companion speakers.

    Thanks

  • Whoa,i have a Yamaha reciever downstairs

  • would there be more videos/ reviews about this receiver ? I am thinking about the pioneer vsx-1021k which costs 299 on amazon now.

  • i've been looking for a micro av recicver but cannot find any small ones on the market they all seem to be the same large ones. I thought a really cool idea would be an mini av reciever that fits into a pc 5 1/4" drive bay.

  • I like pioneer receiver, but it is easy to stain, and hard to clean.

  • could i set this up with an acer projector and also will my logitech z-5500 surround sound system connect to this?

  • as if people even listen to radio anymore

  • @PuffSmelly I do :)

  • @DetroitBORG me too. and alot of people I know.

  • I have the elite one. I think is have the best one they make.

  • Did you get all the parts in?

  • Gr8 information. My TV does not have HDMI input. So I will not be able to do HMDI out from receiver to TV. Question is Will I be able to watch video from HDMI output devices connected to this receiver using component video out? Please advice.

  • @ownsweethome No, it will not convert HDMI to Component.

  • I'm getting one soon

  • thanks for the tour, how's it compare to the VSX-1018? Especially the sound quality? I heard Pioneer dumped down the IC on VSX-1019 but not sure about the VSX-1020 and upcoming 1021...

  • OMG. Dude. The additional speaker jacks are for zone 2. Zones, right? You know about zones?

  • @helios42 Yes, I know about zones and how to use this feature.

  • Haha it's funny when he says GUI :)

  • I want the review please

I would like to see it now!!

  • @FortMinorMJ Yeah, I'm very delinquent on this review, it's somewhat daunting so I keep delaying it...I'll get to it soon.

  • @DetroitBORG Oh... Well, I'm no user of Apple TV, so...

  • @MickiSel Then it's just you pal.

  • nice box

  • Nice video.

Does the DVD look like Blue-ray quality?

  • @Raksoxl No, I wouldn't say so.

  • @DetroitBORG At what resolution?

  • @MickiSel It outputs HD at 1080p, is that what you're asking?

  • At what resolution?

  • I really hope the next iPhone will support HDMI out. Kinda poor quality as it is now.

  • @MickiSel Probably not, you can output video using the Apple TV and AirPlay now.

  • Currently I have the HDMI cable box connected by component lines. Shouldn't it work connected to HDMI 1 (input) if I have the receiver set to HDMI 1 and the projector connected to the "Monitor" with component lines? It works fine the wau as it is, but there is no reason that I shouldn't be able to use the preferred HDMI. Are there other setting I need to consider? I prolly got more than I needed in receiver, but at $499 shipping and all from Amazon, I couldn't help myself.

  • @victoryboysquartet Unfortunately, the receiver cannot convert HDMI to Component video. If you look on Page 22 of your manual, you'll see a diagram depicting this.

  • @DetroitBORG

OK, so to use the none HDMI projector with my cable box, I must also connect the box with corresponding component cables. I have a feeling that I cannot connect both HDMI and component cables to my cable box so that I could use both the projector and the HDMI tv with the cable box. I would assume I have to sacrifice quality on the HDMI tv and use component on all my video equipment.

  • @victoryboysquartet Correct, I'm not sure if your Cable box can manually or automatically select its output setting but it's worth experimenting with to see if you can have Component for one source and HDMi for the other source. You can also buy a Component to HDMI converter box for under $40 so you can get everything on HDMI.

  • @DetroitBORG

I don't know if there really is much upgrade in a conversion from component to HDMI. I still have some work to do even to understand what I have or what I need.

  • W/o the on screen instructions, how do I go about assignment of the HDMI inputs and how does the audio and video join through the system. If I want to run the cable through either the projector or the TV how is the audio fed? Also whenever I hook up the projector to the monitor out, I get no feed to it at all. I am sure that the settings are not correct, but that is my main problem. Like I said, I am working with a 57 yr old brain here. W/o much luck I might add. Am an atty not an engineer

  • @victoryboysquartet If you connect any display to the receiver through any connector type, you'll able to access the onscreen UI, it is the only way to assign HDMI connections, although all you really do here is name them so you know which HDMI connector goes to what device (HDMi 1=Apple TV, HDMI 2=Mac mini, HDMI 3=XBOX, etc... You can manually select the input signal with the input selector knob on the front panel, or the remote controller.

HDMI supports audio and video over the same line.

  • I replaced my 12 old Yamaha (pre HDMI) with the 1120-K. I have an HDMI cable box but the projector I am using is a Sharp XV-Z12000 Mark II without the HDMI. Also have a Phillips 60" LED TV in the same room with the HDMI. DVD has no HDMI. My quest is to connect all this crap with a 57 year old brain. The instructions are in Hyrogliphics and way too much info. It seems that the system relies on the user ability to connect the screen for the "on screen" to be available. DUH! I need help!

  • I just bought one of these for $360 to replace my 10yr old Panasonic htib, I can't wait to find some good speakers to go along with this thing, I just kinda wish there were LR preout jacks on it, but I probably won't need them considering how small my basement is.

  • @vantageIIx Oh..there actually is lol, I guess I overlooked the Zone 2 output in my excitement..this is a very pleasant surprise. :)

  • What is taking you so long just to put in one av receiver. You've had 9 days

  • whats with the end?

  • @koolkars44 Blooper

  • It looked like you were either anxious to get it out or you were in a rush haha :P

  • I bought the VSX 520

  • so many ports, nice.

  • where is your demo ?????

  • @978alex978 It's coming, waiting to get my AirPort Express to wire it up for a full demo.

  • Can you also show how to change inputs using the GUI? that will help too..

  • @DetroitBORG Are u working or planning to upload more videos?

  • i just don't see where people get the money for these things, isn't the receiver like $900/£645? i guess is some people spend there money on different things, and well make more money. P.S. this isn't an insult just a query

  • @butty41 The receiver retails for $549 but I bought it for $360...quite a bargain.

  • hey umm is it illegal to email itunes stuff to other people?

  • @imacc2009 Wrong place to ask a question, but the person you email it to will have to log into the iTunes account that purchased the music, video etc file. if you find a way to go around that, then yes, it is illegal.

  • @anujwaken what do you mean "dont be sad dude" you said it was legal

  • Comment removed

  • @anujwaken WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN I WAS WRONG!!!!! IT WAS A FUCKING SIMPLE QUESTION!!!!!

  • Excellent receiver, and an excellent review...as always thanks DetroitBORG!

  • What speakers are you using?

  • @MFK7861 JBLs

  • Hey Detroit! I was wondering, where could you work to be able to afford all This stuff? I was just wondering like who you work for.

  • I just bought this receiver today and so far I am loving this thing.. I bought a cheap hdmi switch from monoprice but kept having to cycle it off because it would not display video at times.. seems like a common problem with the device.. better switches are 100's of bucks so this was a no brainer for me

  • Looking forward to part 2!

  • @DetroitBORG: Which one?

  • @DetroitBORG which one?

  • If your main reason for a new receiver was more HDMI ports, why didn't you just get an HDMI hub?

  • @TheREINGATOR I did buy one of those but it's an inelegant solution, I want something cleaner.

  • @Fathead885 yeah

  • can you make a video of your setup

  • @coked007 My next video on the receiver will show off my connected devices, although that will come after the Holidays since a few things will change (Sony Internet TV coming).

  • Do you wanna do a review of your harmony one ?

  • @sachqa I LOVE IT, one of my favorite things ;) I might do a review when it's updated, but now it's just old news.

  • I bought this same receiver a few weeks ago and ended up returning it. I'm not much of a home theater guy and this thing was melting my brain with its complexity. I ended up with a Yamaha.

  • @pixeltater You find the Yamaha easier to use?

  • @DetroitBORG I'm much happier with the Yamaha since it fits my needs more appropriately. The 1020K is a nice piece of tech, it was just far more receiver than what I needed for my setup.

  • @pixeltater Yes, the receiver is probably way more than most people need, but it's really the only choice if you have 6 HDMI devices like I do. Otherwose, I only have 5.1 speaker systems so all the 7.1 and multi-zone stuff has always been overkill for me.

  • Nice intro ;D

  • wow!

  • Thanks!

  • I have no intention on buying this but i just like watching your vids

  • @admyrick Glad to hear it :)

  • what is cedera

  • I think the solution for the Ethernet will be an Apple Airport Express or PowerLine Networking. Am I correct?

  • @Cauliflower2011 Yessir! :)

  • WTF! this shit is pretty complicated. wht does it do actually???????

  • great job, your unboxing videos are the best

  • 3:40 OMG!

  • i didn't understand a thing from this video but i enjoyed and now i a curious

  • With the iPod cable included, could I use the apple brand av cable?

  • @Tacocat21 Yes, but you couldn't use those wires on the front of the receiver since it only has a video, USB and HDMI input.

  • Great Thing!

  • they for old speakers

  • Awesome video man!

whats your favorite brand of speaker(s) ?

  • @Azzagard I buy JBLs.

  • @DetroitBORG JBL ftw!!! that excuses your mac use lol jk

  • @rcboatdriver1234 LOL, it'll take allot of JBL speakers to makeup for that ;)

  • @DetroitBORG yep but actually mac is verry stable and I can get past that I appreciate the fact that there are other good operating systems out there if they would change a few things I would go hardcore MAC

  • @Azzagard I also have Bose sets, but never been a huge fan of the small speaker concept.

  • ...this is Detroitborg, atleast put the apple sticker from ur ipod on it just to make it your review

  • Is everyday like Christmas (I do apologize if you are not Christian) since you get a delivery almost every day?

  • @foscavista Well, It may seem that way but really my intake of gadgets fluctuates.

  • Looking at the back is so overwhelming! Can't wait for the demos!

  • @PianoScience A/V Receivers are a step out of time, very old fashioned analogue tech with lots of wires and it requite quite a bit of organization and planning, but they are fun to learn and play with.

  • "made for ipod, and works with iphone" ahh i was wondering why the fuck you were making a video on this

  • @sccerstr09 Well, this is at the heart of my Apple-centeric home theater experience of course :).

  • @DetroitBORG ahhh that makes sence

  • When Skynet does take over, can you be our John Conner?

  • @MrBrianBusy Sure, I can do that. Where's my Terminator? i want to unbox it before the war starts and he gets all ruined.

  • @DetroitBORG I think you need a time displacement device in order to get one

  • You said that you have a solution for the ethernet wire. I am gussing that you are buying one fo those adapters that run through an electrical outlet in the wall.

  • @The3AverageGamers It's an Apple product :)

  • Heads up on mcacc. Make sure you calibrate it at night, because the mic can pick up noise and you'll get mix results. Fyi. Great review!

  • @LazyGuru1 I set it up, making sure I was out of the area, the house is extremely quiet.

  • Glad to see your preview. This is the exact home theater receiver I'm planning on buying. My current receiver only has one HDMI-in port and my home theater has expanded to include numerous HDMI devices. Unfortunately, it won't fit in my cabinet (luckily, I checked the dimensions of this receiver). I'll have to find a separate cabinet first to fit this beast.

  • @txmoney The 1017 and 1018 I had before this one was very deep, it barely cleared the back of my cabinets (I have 3 home theaters in this house). This one lopped off a good 3 inches from those models so it fits perfectly. I absolutely love these receivers, and you can get them for a steal on Amazon (I paid $360).

  • Do a office tour!

  • @DGinja I'd have to do a full house tour since this tech is all over the place, but I'm not comfortable doing that. I will probably do some sort of Apple collection tour at some-point, but it's a big under-taking.

  • @DetroitBORG i agree bro good way to get robbed if someone is near you best if they dont know the layout of your house lol

  • Hey Michael, do you have a website? Thanks.

  • @Computd Not really, just a photo gallery I don't maintain ;) I know, i need to do something about that.

  • Awesome

  • Ochh!

  • so this also plays fm am radio?

  • @randomrazr Yes, just wish it also did HD radio like my car.

  • @DetroitBORG ive never heard of HD radio before, is that satilite radio?

  • hey Michael, you have to buy a Google TV and make a good video about it!

  • @jesmvzla I may be getting the Sony Blue-Ray disc player with Google TV, we'll see.

  • If that thing goes skynet... Please give us heads up!

  • @Blahineedaname I don't think you have to worry about that, A/V receivers definitely are not state-of-the-art tech ;).

  • @DetroitBORG I sent you a PM please reply

  • made in japan?

  • @randomrazr China.

  • @DetroitBORG awhhh, was hoping japan. pioneer used to make their stuff there, great quality in terms of build.

i have a 1980 290watt pioneer stereo reciever. thing is bad ass. i dunno if ur a fan of old tech but its pretty awesome! lol iil throw a vid response if u want to see it.

  • OMG THE END XDDDD

  • FIRST!!!!111!!!!!one!!

  • first

  • @drummadude327 FAIL MAN

  • haha love the blooper

  • how come its only 360p? Just wondering.

  • @snakestudiosfilms because the video is processing. You new to youtube?

  • @nikeeweston no, i just never noticed.

  • @snakestudiosfilms It's still processing. Give it time.

  • @snakestudiosfilms

its still processing, well 5 minutes ago. now its ok.

You people should already know by now new videos needs time to process...

  • @HLM190586 ok

  • Great Video.....

  • COOL! lol
