If the governtment can't pay their bills than you don't pay your taxes, the bank can't pay their bills you don't pay your bills. They would get the point in a big hurry if 307,006,550 people stop paying and start saying no, no money till change is made I bet it would be fixed in a big hurry.

What I would like to know is who is buying these derivatives. Is the average investor involved? Are they slipped into portfolios unknowingly..or are they just floating around the same banks.

We both have "Wall Street" & banking backgrounds. I like this channel because you seem to understand this stuff. I try to tell people about this stuff & they just don't have the experience & knowledge to understand it. Working the "grey markets" in a sub-brokerage in Paris was scary! I saw such insanity! (France DID outlaw this type of business -- I was relieved when that 2-year job ended for that reason!) Had an experience with Goldman Sachs last year which was scary!
