Hey, i just got a new IMAC, OS X. I unplugged it one day, and I cannot get the system to come up. Apple care had me erase disk and reload Lion, but the Lion reload locks up after a few minutes. Thanks. I've purchased an eMac to get rid of Windows. But the eMac only had a 40Gb drive. External drives and drives made for PC's are a lot cheaper than drives made for Mac OS by apple. This helped a lot, now I have 540GB of space (40 original, and 500 thanks to you).

I tried to reformat a 4gb sd card and I must have done something wrong. I was'nt able to reformat so I draged to the trash from disk utility side bar. When I Insert the sd card reader the disk utility doesn't detect any sd cards but it will detect my ipod device. I can only find it on the system profiler under usb any suggestions. PLEASE!!!

@lilseggy , will it still work with windows after doing this ? no you need to format NTFS for that PC HDD use , install the MAC OSX NTFS driver though to do this Paragon NTFS .. then format as NTFS will show in the list .

Hi, i haven't yet tried it on the pc but i doubt it will work. Would be great if it did! but i really don't think it will. the only way to do that i think is to create two partitions and format one partition for mac and the other for pc. NB. Also for extra info i don't think you can format a mac drive to pc. I tried that and failed. (if i'm wrong correct me pls)

On my Mac Pro2009- installed a 2nd hard drive and it was successful-

I however have a setting that I want to change, if u may know- the new HD seems to be mirroring my main drive and I do not want that!

(when i delete something from the main drive, it deletes the copy from the 2nd new drive) How do I make it allow me to delete stuff from my main drive without having the copy of it deleted from the 2nd drive?

By the way it's an internal hard drive Western Digital Caviar black 1 TB

Yes there is! You have to partition the external hard drive. Once you go to disk utility you can set the different sections for specific OS. So you can have one for dos (windows) and mac os X. Check out other videos on how to "partition external hd for mac and windows"! But this will delete all the files, so you will have to copy to your computer first, then re add them once its done with the partition!

You forgot to mention: that you have actually formatted your drive as HFS+ correct? This means you will now be able to have Windows read and write to the drive as well... ?

By the way when in the erase mode of dick utility what is the difference between Mac journalled OS Extended and Mac OS Extented?

Is the latter for early Mac OS ?

For Windows PC to read HFS+ (mac format) format . It will need " Macdrive" software and this would allow a PC to read and write from the Mac.
