@IZEASGT They were going back on an old murder scene, there was nothing written on it. They had info someone had visited the girl and assumed it was him and a shot inside. Neither was true. Shot came from outside like they figured out at the scene.

So what was covering the bullet in the fridge door? Would somebody have had to conceal that afterward? Or was that just the door's regular interior lining? (It went through that part pretty easily, but got stopped cold by the rest of the door...how realistic is that?)

@IZEASGT They never show the first crime scene because it happened "before" the show. And the detective assigned to it did a poor job with it. The way it played out in the show is, the original detective had no information about what happened. So I'm guessing he missed where the shot came from.

@arshort2 Oh, I knew why they hadn't shown the crime scene itself. As a rule, they didn't do flashbacks.

So somebody HAD investigated earlier, when the crime was first reported, but missed everything McNulty and Bunk pieced together in a few minutes with the same evidence. Sounds like some shoddy detective work. Then again, I guess that happens. Especially in this show. (I'm still only eight episodes into season 1.)

The wire ruined every other show for me... except maybe Treme.

I love to compare this to something like Cold Case, were they pretend that's not a dead end department, they have infinite money and resources and aren't pissed they have the seemingly impossible job of solving 50 year old cases, though the cases are pretty easy in that show.

@brunettechocha as other have said the ratings were initially low because of the extremely in depth nature of the show, but is quickly becoming a classic. The point is not to shock or impress but a display of understanding between two close friends working the same crime scene whereas some shows need a constant descriptive The Wire relies on the observation, concentration and common sense of the viewer.

@fvyughbuy Yeah, see the point is just how fucking brilliant being a play/screenwriter is. In less than 4 min, which is four pages of writing, the writers were able to use basically ONE WORD to sum up one of that seasons biggest story lines. Proving that the word "fuck" and all its power when said in the right: tone, context, and intended meaning can be THE perfect word.
