I really think this song is about children being naive to the religions their parents forcefeed them. "I know it, I think I know it from a hymn... They said so - it doesn't need an explanation!" However, using this eccentric elderly woman in the place of a child is very effective in conveying the message that you really aren't free to be who you want to be until you're mentally mature and free of outside influences. Also, along with the religion idea, this video takes place in a manger... :P

I used to think these dark elements were just designed to shock and set the personna.....but i'm beginning to believe alot of this strange frequency that they create both visually and sonically, is in fact streaming directly from her muse. (they if we're talking about the knife) Personally, i love the video and i'm a major perfectionist. I don't know how people could be dumb enough to compare Reznor (or anything Reznor does) to Fever Ray. Fever Ray is not only so beyond Reznor's sexploitative-curse-word-fille­d-FAILdustrial-music, its not even in the same genre (given Fever Ray's synthpop-gothic-electronica style...).

some of the synth melodies for this song remind me of the sound Tangerine Dream did for the score to a film that came out on the mid 1980's called "Heartbreakers"
